It is the first song of 'Into the Electric Castle', with a total running time of 14 mins 15 seconds. It is uploaded both in mp3 and RealAudio format. Singers on this song are: Fish, Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Damian Wilson (Threshold), Edwin Balogh (Tamas) and Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering). =A0 Tip: downloading the Microsoft Media Player is very useful, since it also plays mp3-files before they are finished downloading! Well, after lurking around for the past 20 ytsejams, I have decided it was safe to post again, not that I was flamed, but I wanted to wait until some of the crappy threads died. I can't win though.. they keep coming back and back and..... About this US DT fan club? What's the deal? Why did it fall apart? We now have a kickass webpage with update info 24/7 but we don't have a newsletter??!! Why? Is a new updated fan club in the works? What about a new ytsejam t-shirt. I have waited and waited.. (not that I'm impatient) but I was hoping one would be out there sometime soon. I don't have a copy of the old one because none were available in my size when I wanted it. About the Derek-Kevin shit, I hope it's over. It's really embarrasing to see us go on for so long about it. I hope to start working on a website soon for DT.. Now with this little gem > of an email, I'm completely turned off to the idea of listening to > Empty Tremor. Good sales tactics guys. Firstly, I'm in no way defending Arman (or Arash) by posting this - angry Italians and angry yanks obviously don't mix - but I urge anyone apparently in the same boat as Sir Eckie here who are thinking of boycotting Empty Tremor due to their disgust in the Ashouriaounrournias cocky, narrow-monded, dickheaded attitude not to do so. It might seem like an easy thing to do since Arash runs the ET list and is always swamping the jam with a barrage of over-the-top, bullshit, ET propaganda, but don't let this crap make you attach a negative connotation with the actual *band*. The only time the *actual* band have even made their presence known is by sending you all free promo tapes. Point the finger at Arash and his brother, not at ET. I have the promo tape, as well as the album, and do agree with most criticisms posted here about songwriting, production, etc. The production is SHIT and the songwriting, for the most part, unimaginative. > The most often copied part is the synchronized power chords and drums > in odd time sigs (such as in UAGM)and this band certainly does plenty > of that. Indeed, however, framed around these cliched elements are moments when this band really shines. Songs like Rules Of Time, Running Rusty Rails and MiddleMan are good examples of this, where the band seems to brush off the strained attempts to be 'as prog as possible' and ends up with *their* sound. The first half of Rules Of Time is simply beautiful and is the one song I will always come back to. Forget the mindless, cliched exhibition of chops - this album *does* show potential in the bands songwriting ability. They will find their own sound. Their DEBUT album *does* demonstrate they have enourmous potential in between playing a bunch of 16th notes in unison. So don't be too quick to hammer these guys before they've even established themsleves, give 'em the credit they deserve and if you don't like them then don't turn your disinterest into anger due to Arash and Arman's whining. Thankyou for listening, Luke. PS. did anyone actually like Apocolokyntosis? Well, I just signed, but I have two comments on this subject: * first, why didn't you post the address to subscribe to UaCM's newsletter to Ytsejam? * second, UaCM's newsletter is no substitute for Voices, because this newsletter you're doing is just of, how can I say, informative character, when Voices was a place for moderated discussions. I don't think so. Would Hollow Years be still a great song if it would be from Michael Bolten and not DT ?*** My answer is of course to both questions. I am not a fan of strictly prog music and I know many other members of this list listen to non-prog music. I judge music if it is good or not, not if it is prog or by the polyrhythms, time sigs, solos etc. I think there are no more than 10 good prog bands around today. I'd much rather listen to a straight-ahead Pantera song with three amazing riffs than a prog song 10 average riffs. ***The sound of FII is too 90's (I don't think that it sound like alternative) and some of the songs are not even 30 % prog but I know that DT were under presure and they had to write more commercial songs to become a chance for recording the album.*** You gotta look at the influences of DT before you assume they are a strictly prog band and label pressure forced DT to make FII. MP's greatest influence are the Beatles followed by Frank Zappa. Pantera is also up there. JP recently listed ten albums that impacted him the most-- only two, Rush- Hemispheres and Yes-- Fragile, would be considered prog. DS is pure rock. What JL and JM have been listening to lately, I have no idea. But MP also mentioned Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and U2 as band influences. He also said that he had no idea how they ended up as a prog band because prog bands represent a fraction of DT's influences. It's just that 12 years later, those influences are starting to shine through more. ***And I think that Speak To Me is the worst DT song ever. You know, the song would be good for U2 but it's too low for DT's standart. I just hope that the next album will show everone that DT are the only prog gods on earth.*** Why do you and other people hold DT to a higher standard. They are a band, like any other one. And why does pop music seem to be the enemy? I think there is something that can be said for a band that creates an interesting and tasteful catchy song. Musicianship is nothing without melody and harmony. Quit copying DT and they've got a chance to get there. As far as production on the album I'll give it a 6 out of 10. If ET can stick together for 5-10 years, they'll maybe mature enough to do works on par w/ DT. Next thought...... Has anyone really considered the influences that LTE/AOI/ Platypus is going to have on the next DT studio release??? I really hope that they head almost straight for the studio after this tour. Personally, I like LTE and AOI better than FII but not by much. I'm hoping that these influences rub off a little on the next studio album as I've found a renewed appreciation for the the superb musicians that are DT. The side projects just might create one of the best albums of all time when they decide to get back together and write some new stuff again. Also the DS/KM thing, Derek may have a personality that disagrees with some people on this list, but I don't think KM could ask for a better man to step into his place, besides the man's got a reputation outside of prog which could prove invaluable to DT in a small, but important way sometime. OK, I'm done. I'll submerge again, so flame at will. ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 4167 **************************
