A site like Under a Cyber Moon that generates lots of daily hits a keeps updated provides other websites that want to promote Dream Theater online a place to go and advertise their involvement. Without a place like UACM these people who would otherwise promote DT might feel it too diffulcult to promote and find the fanbase and therefore not think it worth their time to do interviews and shows. When a place like Liveconcerts now does a thing like the Explorer's club listening party and they see a nice turnout then they feel like that is an avenue they can continue to successfully explore. This can only mean that we the fans can see more things coming to us... which is a good thing! I'm not saying that UACM is the only place that contributes to the DT community but Mark is very active and high profile, taking the time and effort to promote his site and get it noticed. Its an easy find for promoters and fans alike. That takes quite a bit of effort and sacrifice. I'm not doing this merely as a pat on the back, but also kinda to remind people that if we want to make sure that DT and bands like DT continue to be able to get support from the powers that be then we need to at least make it look like there is an active community that will visit promotions and help generate hits for people who depend on them for their income. If the prog loving community gets a reputation for a "go to" kind of group because of our loyalty and participation then things can snowball and people will get interested. Just thought it was worth mentioning. bruce forst email_address_removed oh yeah.. Anyway, there's my $0.02. BTW, If that's Australian $0.02, it's actually worth less in the USA, and therefore so is my comment... ;-) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Shane Woolcock - email_address_removed.au WWW - http://members.xoom.com/samah/ "Wearing apathetic displays, Sharing flesh like envy in cages..." - DT -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Aug 1998 02:42:58 -0500 From: email_address_removed (Bruce Forst) To: email_address_removed Subject: take the bad with the good? I find this upsetting....I mean alot of times a song on a cd wont hit me until I've listened to my "favorites" over and over again. And then one day when I stick the cd in a song that I didnt like will jump out and bite me on the ass... sometimes turning into all time favorites. This happened to me with Voices.. I just didnt see it right away... then one night I stick on the headphones pop Awake into the player hit play and kinda laid there in bed listening and thinking. Voices comes on and I start hearing all this really cool shit going on... an "oh wow" moment... bruce forst email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 10:22:04 +0200 From: Spider To: email_address_removed Subject: [re: All keyboard players blow dick!!!] Message-ID: <35C6C4AC.1545@alcatel.ch> Hiya folks . . . ---------------- [re: ytsejam 4133, Damon Fibraio] Hey Damon...you said something about Rudess.. > ..Anyway, Jordan Rudess, awesome keysman as well. Well, with survive I mean their music. Sure they will not die because they don't have enough food are so. Belive me I know so many awesome talented prog bands here in Germany who have gave up after they've seen that they don't get any support. They simply change their style to power metal or Industiral/Alternative and so on. Actully, Rising Sun has made some preshure to Empty Tremor regarding their style. They said "you better make some easier music with more power speed stuff than complex time sigs and prog elements". 6 months ago I've tried to get a deal for ET by Inside Out records (Vanden Plas, Enchant, Symphony X, Spock's Beard, Rhypsody and ...) They've said, they don't have any interests in ET because of their music and the fact that they came from Italy ! I ask "so what about Rhypsody ?" And they said, "well this is another thing. "They make symphonic power metal and we can sell this kind of music". You see, it's all about money and nothing else. Even Magna Carta thinks so :-(( Btw, I would like to thank you all in the name of Empty Tremor for all your support. I always thought DT have the best fans in the world. Viva Ytsejam ;-) P.S. I can't help myself but I love Spice Girls Viva Forever song. I've this one. It's one of the most uncommercial music I've ever heard. It very very very experimental and techincal and this fact make this record so especial. The musicians are all really good. The only thing I don't like is that there are no keyboards. But the bass player (Michael Manring) is a killer. Just incredible. Iguess it sounds silly and makes no sense, but I consider DT in my room as my thing and want to deci= de whether I share or not. Agreed, I know that the two loves would not exclu= de one another, but I fear I'd be kinda jealous, if she puts my music on, especially since every song has a meaning and some special kicks. Somebo= dy said about FII that every song fits anytime and gets him in the mood he wants to get in. Agreed too, =E1nd I like it when DT is on during parties= and such, but mmh.
