If folks out there are looking are for some good Jazz/Pop piano playing, this is the place to look. Kinda makes you wish DT would lug a baby grand around on tour :) On the whole datamining thread. Sounds like a good strategy to get DT into the press. I think worries about them becoming too mainstream are a bit unfounded -- like thats going to happen! But a bit of press would be a good thing -- if we can reach just one fan, yadda yadda yadda... Now who can find out if the retailers are really using this technique? Oh, and as far as this post in response to the data mining issue: > Oh my God!! This is actually brilliant. Content-Type: text/plain Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 12:43:21 PDT Hey Jammers, I absolutely loved the post about the Meta Section of DT. Just to let you know, I heard about DT from a guy I used to be in a band with. He played a MICRO sample for me the summer of 1993. Then I got the Guitar-for-the-practicing-musician with TTT in it. This prompted me to go and buy IMAGES&WORDS. I listened to TTT while watching the transcription go by. I was totally blown away.... Needless to say, I was a DT fan from then on. Plus, I totally agree with the over-the-top emotional aspect of DT. There's so much you could spoon it right out of the CD case. Originality, Musicianship, Songs topping the 10-12 minute mark(without losing the listener's attention)... it's all there. Just my $0.02. This song typifies what makes DT great. Different textures, different tempos, a great new bluesy section, creative lyrics and an opportunity for JP to sick-schred. Take a great song and make it better. THIS CAN'T BE RETIRED !!!!!!!! This is a personal PLEA to MP to throw this one on the setlist at Hampton Beach !! Anyway, if you're like me, you were upset when Anthrax ditched their famous logo for the modern, 90s looking thing on the cover of "Stomp 442." Well, they brought back the fan favorite for this album (and Notman!!!), and it got me thinking... Now that OFB has experimented with a new logo, will they be going back to the cherished style of yore with OIAL? Anyway, this message is about the preliminary track-list of the new Angra album which we have received today (the track list, not the album, unfortunately :)). There it goes: - fireworks - lisbon (first single, out 7/4/98) - metal icarus (sounds cool, doesn' it!!!!) - paradise - gentle change - petrified eyes - speed - extreme dream - rainy nights (most likely to be the second single, and according to Andre Matos is an Angra POP song (what?!!!!!!!)) - mystery machine (a likely bonus track on the Japanese pressing) They played "fireworks" and "gentle change" during a Carolina the 4th gig in Paris in April, and we've got "speed" blasting from our stereo right now. For everyone who might have been disappointed with a rather radio-friendly, soft sound of "lisbon", this one is for YOU. "Speed" is pure angels-cry Angra with a riff to die for and a pretty complicated song structure with multiple tempo changes, solos etc (the song clocks in at 6 minutes). More details as we have them. Take care and keep on rocking, Felix and Volodya. Whoever posted that price might have solved the jewelcase problem!!! I usually was getting them for 55 to 60 cents from suppliers, but 70 cents is fine... even in quantity that doesn't add up to that much of an increase. I could get them for $2 each at Tower Records here in Mesa, but obviously that's just over the line. The liners are formatted for double-slimline jewelcases and have both side flanges so they'll fit ones that open-right or open-left inside. I made it as option-friendly as possible, truly. If I couldn't cut 'em in advance I made sure to at least make them so you could cut them to fit any type of case. Remember, there are even some double-slimline cases with strange hinge-ing, mostly seen in Europe, that require a different cut altogether. The Stream liners are NOT, as was posted, formatted for chubby. The cover is 4.73" x 4.7" just like a standard cover inlay would be. For triple chubby, the cover needs to be 5.97" x 4.63" and have side flanges, a la the newer revision of the cover to Virtual Songs (not seen on my site, but it's what you'd get if you ordered it). I'd post the images up for download, but they're about 50 megs each, and even JPG-ized they're around 10 to 11 megs total per disc, because most of these images are true physical size, 24-bit color depth, 1200dpi TIFFs. Judging by how clear Ryan Whitaker's liners are, I'd estimate his are the same. -- - Mike Bahr - Prism Records - remove ANTISPAM in my address to reply - Hardcore fan of Dream Theater, King's X, Rush (the band), and more!!! - Magic: the Gathering "Duelists' Convocation Level 2 Certified Judge" - d u r n i k @ g o o d n e t . c o m - http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik/ - If it's nae Scottish, it's CRAP! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 15:45:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Ernesto Schnack To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 4079 Message-ID: > I've only taken 1 term of Japanese at MIT (supposedly the best Japanese > program in the nation - it's fucking intense!) and I'm almost positive that > the tattoo you are referring to says "Ma-i-ki" or "Mikey" in katakana.
