Message-ID: <002201c46a12$ab0c92a0$message_id_removed> Thanks for the person that posted the 30% discount on imports! I ordered Empty Tremor: Apocolokyntosys and Symphony X: Divine Wings of Tragedy and Twilight In Olympus. I'm glad I waited before I had ordered them! The timing was just right. I also noticed that on the main CDNow page, it lists a discount of 30% on their top-sellers, which lists LTE as one of them. A lot of Jammers must have bought it through them to be a best seller! If you haven't bought LTE yet, the 30% discount should entice you! Has anybody listened to the new DP? My girlfriend said she heard their song a few times on the radio. I'm planning on going to the Detroit concert with DT/ELP/DP in August. I just gotta get off my ass and get the tickets. Message-ID: Felix asked about the new Queensryche material. I was at Seattle98 and heard the 4 new tracks. They were introduced by Geoff Tate's wife as "rough demos". The track "Break Down" was heavy and intense... somewhere between Mindcrime and Empire. The other tracks were diverse but not "alternative sounding" like HitNF. I believe Ryche fans will be very pleased with the new material if they were disappointed in the last CD. BTW, Kelly Gray was at Seattle98. He seemed a little nervous about being there amongst the "hard-core" fans but everyone I spoke with, including myself, thought he was very cool. It's yet to be announced "officially" if he will tour with the band. If you'd like more info, visit www.queensryche.com. There is coverage if Seattle98 at the site. As far as I can recall, the new album will be entitled "Once In A Livetime" (which was being played through the loudspeakers before the clinic! :). The album, much to Jeremy Hallum's dismay, will not contain "To Live Forever". It also, much to my dismay, will not contain any previously unreleased material ("Cover My Eyes", "Speak To Me", etc.). Mike said they were going on the next studio album. But, he said that the material that is being cut will likely turn up as B-sides and Christmas CD content. I did notice that Just Let Me Breathe has an awesome organ solo smack dab in the middle of it. I also overheard Mark Metzger pressing Mike about vocal overdubs, and he said that it would be completely live except for maybe some of his backing vocals :). Anyone going to the Hampton Beach show: I requested "Eve" and "Speak to Me". He said Eve was more or less retired for now, but after some whinning on my part, he gave me a "maybe". Jim Matheos was there too. He picked Mike up from the airport and brought him to the clinic! I gave him a big "Thank You" for the masterpiece that is APSOG. Oh yeah-- He also mentioned the possibility of a LTE tour somewhere down the line! He said they were all itching to to play that stuff live. Ah, Blind Guardian. Speaking of which, I found out a few days ago that the bassist from Sieges Even (Oliver Holtzwarth) was playing in the band on their most recent tour (he's not leaving SE or anything, just taking a break, I guess). World Cup posts. Look, the thing only happens every 4 years. And in every country EXCEPT the USA, it's a tremendously big deal, easily the equal or superior to our Super Bowl frenzy. I for one am willing to just let it go as it is... we won't have it happening again til 2002, and I don't even remember it being all that big a deal the last time. Anyway congratulations to France for winning it, and my salute to Brazil for at least making it to the finals AGAIN... talk about a dominant team!! Almost had their fifth win. And "good job" to the other teams that made it to the later rounds, Netherlands, Croatia, and so forth. 2. Bahr Wars. There are none going on right now; a good thing. I'll be glad to continue to not participate in the ones that aren't happening right now. :) 3. New live album: It's not gonna contain Met 2. (This is mainly a reminder for those who heard that it was going to). It's a 2-disc set (and video) drawn from some shows they just did in Europe, with some pretty wild setlists. 4. FYS is the complete show, but DT played a shorter set that night for some reason. (absolutely a kick-ass CD, by the way - I HIGHLY recommend it) Am I the only one who thinks than the song "Message to God" contradicts what it says in the booklet (the quote by Andre Anderson)? ]From the Andre Anderson quote: "Throughout history man has both blamed God and credited God for things that are negative and destructive, which doesn't make sense. God does not create inquisitions, or start wars. God does not create evil, only man does....." I take away from that quote the feeling of "Don't blame God for the stupid shit that we do." ]From the song "Message to God": "The one that's watching over my shoulder - get a life", "I never thought you're lying but now it's turned around, so many hearts are dying - you've let them down over and over again" "We're busy burning witches the way we've learned from you." "You, freak of nature - just tell me why did you create us man?" Uhhhh..... From that I get the feeling of "Dagnabit, it's all God's fault." He did a great job in helping people understand odd time sigs, breaking down difficult passages (finally, my questions about the middle of Metropolis I are answered!), and answering a field of questions from the audience. Even though I don't play drums, now that I know some of Portnoy's secrets...I could probably take him on his worst day. Seriously. :P (Just like Wacky could take Petrucci on his worst day. bwahahahah) The live album is 2 CDs and it is _packed_. The working title for the CD-set is "Once in a Livetime". CD 1 is 76 minutes & CD 2 is 78 minutes. There are some left over tracks that MP & Shirley mixed which might get thrown onto CD singles or fan club CDs. D-Man, I'm sorry, but word is that To Live Forever did not make the live cut. In fact, I don't think any of the B-sides are going to make it because they wanted to put as much stuff on there as possible which has already been released. (Like your 'Scarred's & your 'Voices's.) But, I'm sure the B-sides that didn't make the live CD cut will pop up from time to time. We have Portnoy looking after us all. :) In fact, we got to listen to the live album before the show began, and I heard Lines in the Sand, Voices, Puppies on Acid/Just Let Me Breathe, and Take the Time, and all of them sound AWESOME. The cool thing (at least I think this is cool) is that apparently nothing is being overdubbed, including James's vocals. This is DT in their rawest, most pure form. :) The CD set (and probably a video at the same time) will be out in October some time. I'm salivating all over my keyboard already. Oh, and, if you want to know who Chris & Kevin are, go ask Portnoy at a drum clinic near you. bwahahahaaaaa :) Take care all, Bogie PS - OH! I almost forgot. The Jon Finn Group is opening for DT on August 4th. Sorry Jon P'ah'met. :( ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 4066 **************************
