Anyone, anyone? > Bueller? Since you asked, I have it and I love it. The album is not a typical guitar solo guitar record. It is an album chock full of catchy, radio-friendly songs with a Beatles/ Cheap Trick feeling throughout. Lyrically, there are no deep insights into the plight of the common man, but that is not the album's intention. It's the type of album that you can throw in your car stereo on your way to the beach. It's the perfect summer album (especially since some songs contain Beach Boys-eque harmonies). A lot of the songwriting style actually reminds me of Mr. Big's "Green Tinted Sixties Mind." Like Nuno before him, Paul sings and plays almost all the instruments on the album. His voice is actually surprisingly good, since I never really considered him to be a backing vox extraordinaire like a Nuno or a Richie Sambora. The downside to the album is that there is an extremely boring jam at the end that lasts for 20 minutes. LTE has nothing to worry about, if you know what I'm saying. That aside, I fully recommend it. Just don't be expecting Passion & Warfare, or anything like that. Alex ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jul 1998 23:33:46 -0400 From: "Andrew Forcier" To: Subject: Reviews, again... Message-ID: Hello, Well, I just got back from a triple feature at the old cineplex. Some thoughts: Lethal Weapon 4, good movie, but not great, thumbs up; Small Soldiers, consistently funny and some good action, thumbs up; Armageddon, early contender for WORST movie of the year, way ahead of Godzilla in that race, a tremendous waste of talent, thumbs way-the-hell down. And just so you Rush fans can take heart, though the (barely noticeable) Tom Sawyer cover is in Small Soldiers, the ORIGINAL is in the preview for the new Adam Sandler movie "The Waterboy". It shocked the hell out of me to hear it. Oh, and the highlight for the whole movie trip was the preview for "Blade". Finally, Wesley Snipes doing something good with his talent. Now, for some MUSIC reviews. More bands that few people on here listen to, I'd imagine. First off: Everclear, "So Much for the Afterglow". This is a really good album, I must say. Sure the songs are catchy, but the lyrics are actually pretty thought-provoking. Normal Like You is a great track (especially for anyone who's been on prescription happy pills). The two songs from the radio (title track, Everything To Everyone) aren't even the two best for once! Next up: Prince, "The Hits 2". As with any compilation, its a mix, and not a good one. It features my three favorite Prince tracks (Little Red Corvette, I Would Die 4 U, Purple Rain), so I started here. But there are some really great tracks I hadn't paid attention to on the radio: Cream, Gett Off to name two. It's the really early stuff that drags this album down. And just to restore your faith in this pop-loving jammer, I picked up LTE at The Music Outlet in Enfield. I've only heard the first four tracks, but so far it's great. I was expecting a musical wank-fest, which would have been disappointing. But the second track is really cool- mellow. I guess the wanking will come after track 8. I'll be ready then. :) Stodgers is all cinema-ed out for today! (but will be going to see The Opposite of Sex tomorrow) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Jul 1998 00:58:01 -0400 From: Lobsterback To: email_address_removed Subject: OzzFest Acoustics (opinion-ridden) Message-ID: While at the OzzFest today, I noticed an interesting phenomenon. Sound quality was absofrigginhorrible where I was standing. The couple next to me, Tool fans, decide Ozzy doesn't do it for them, and leave. I move over five feet into their position. HUGE difference. I could hear the guitar part; the drums weren't so overpowering. Still not *good* quality by any means, but substantially better. Acoustics is wary interesting creatures (to paraphrase my ex-calculus T.A., Igor). Regardless, Ozzy needs to fire his sound engineers. Also, I've liked what I heard of Tool's studio albums...but live, they plain suck. I've seen lichen put on more interesting stage-shows. Nobody moved around (aside from taking their shirts off) and most of the band just looked at their feet. Everything sounded *exactly* like the album version (on bad speakers -- damn those soundmen). Boooooring. I actually walked out on the band, an honor only Pantera'd (bleh) earned before... But it fits a pattern. At both OzzFests, this year and last, I've enjoyed the fourth-to-last band (liked nothing before them) mostly for entertainment's sake (Fear Factory / Limp Bizkit), liked the third-to-last band (Type O Negative / Megadeth), walked out on the second-to-last band (Pantera / Tool), and ran back in for the headliner (Ozzy+Black Sabbath / Ozzy). I must be a serial concert attender. Brian "Son of Sam (Hagar)" Henderson =================================== Name: W. Brian Henderson, Esq. Hopefully we do not witness a "hand of god" or a "drug related problem", but who cares, soccer would not be soccer with such dilemas. This is game is closer to any rock star and any band. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but you just blew it. We're trying to be nice, civilized human beings, yet it's people like you who create all the rumors out there about the Ytsejam being filled with snobs. I feel like all of us on the jam are family, and as such we have every right to disagree, but being that much of an asshole is just unexcuseable. Now I suspect you'll start talking about my mom and sister, etc. Why? Just go lurking for a while until you can act like an adult. God, I'm 17 and way above your mental capacity. Personally, I don't argue either way because I agree sports don't belong here, even though I feel it unites the jammers in yet another way, and makes us closer. Maybe you don't want that. Also, the jam is the only way I hear about half of the games out there. Your comments are enough to make me support World Cup on here. When you talk like that people don't say "'ya know what, he's right". they just say "What a dick." And La Crosse? It's my favorite sport, and I don't play any sports at all. I don't care at all for most sports. But personally I'd love it if someone would post La Crosse on here, maybe just to piss you off.
