Message-ID: <000001bda0c8$47474b80$568c15cf@markphil> Well, I have to say, we are now entering a scary world! >"DVD FIRSTS >The electronic rock band Full on the Mouth is the first band or artist to be >signed by the Pioneer Music Group, owned by audio giant Pioneer Electronics. [snip] >ARGGH. What the hell is that. Why does a crappy ass band like them get to >be the first to have a DVD single?!?! Where the hell is dream theater's >promoters?! You listening portnoy?! Anyone know how many HOURS of music one can fit on a DVD? I have no idea, but I got to believe it's an insane amount. But can you imagine if ever the DVD replaces the ol' CD? The change in the music industry? Dream Theater wouldn't have a problem, but there are many "other" bands out there that never in their lives could come up with a full DVD of music... and that's a lot more effort as well, which means the DVD will cost more than a CD, but "other" bands will be unable to deliver money's worth music. (other bands consist of the crap stuff they play on eMpTyV. Bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc. and classical artists would have no problem filling it) But can you imagine all of Malher's symphony's on one DVD? What a thought. Well, if DT ever came out with a DVD, I'd buy one just for that... (but I'd also take advantage of the movie aspect). Heh! Now there's an idea! When Portnoy talks about this new live album covering the "unplugged" gig, and the Huge DT set thing comming up... AND a video? To HELL with a double disc! Include the whole fucking works on a DVD! No edits! The entirity of both shows! We're talking about 4-5 hours of music alone!!! (Well, that's still depending on how much a DVD holds for audio... Hell it may need a double DVD! :) ) Take it easy everyone and enjoy the summer! Are you kidding, man? I sure as hell HOPE the CD sounds like that. I'm listening to an mp3 I got from The Doc's ftp site of Living in Fear, and I must say I find nothing wrong with his playing. Actually, that kind of overplaying on the drums is what suckered me into DT in the first place. Since then, whenever I hear a drummer who is totally laying into a song and ripping fills whenever he can get 'em in, I dunno, it literally gives me the shivers (usually just my back does the shivering) and makes me wish I had a set right in front of me so I could start playing along. That type of overplaying just does more for me than anything else in the music could. It's EXTREMELY infectious, and it literally moves me. I remember a similar experience when I watched a video of Slayer's "Seasons of the Abyss" (is it "of" or "in"?) and I was listening to this dude (Lombardo) sitting behind a Tama kit and just tearing shit up. Fills over the place. I bought that CD, and that track still does something special for me whenever I listen. I can't even do anything else when it comes on, I just stare at the wall and listen. Oh yeah, and I'm the same way with bass-playing. When I hear a bass player start to tear shit up (like on the Spastic Ink CD, my GOD), it's just mesmerizing. Anyway, I not only hope that the DD drummer continues his crack habit, I hope he's moved on to something more potent by now:). Video-wise, a typical single side of a DVD can hold 133 minutes of video at 512x364 resolution or whatever. It's some retarded number somewhere close to that. And that's also with dolby surround sound, single camera. Not like that porn video you want that you can select a view of the coitus from several views. Those take up more space, and I really don't suggest buying porn. I really don't. It'll make you go blind like Damon. That's in jest, D, you rule, bud. ;) So, to put is straight out, you could logically put all the publicly release works of RUSH onto on DVD disc, and probably still have room for all of DT's. :) That's a lot of schnikey! >component of our>container. Well, me and my friends have asked ourselves this question.. but we've come to the conclusion that they can't limit themselves to put something on DvD, unless they also put it out on VHS or CD, since they already have a "limited" audience, why put out a DvD which will cut even more people who dont have the players... maybe if they can convince the label to put out both DvD and VHs/cd versions..- In the stream of consciousness There is a river crying Living comes much easier Once we admit , We're dying. This message is directed to the 'jammer who posed a question about adaptive software. I work for the Office of Multicultural Affairs/Disability Services at a state university. This past year our department purchased a software program called, OMNI 3000 Scan/Read, it is manufactured by a company called HumanWare (they should have a web site). It can scan text and images, really our only hangups are the charts and graphs, but what is really nice about the program is that the synthesized voice reader is very adaptable - no more listening to Marvin the Martian (laugh).
