I really want to add keyboard stuff to my band, but we don't want to get another member, and none of us are very good at piano. as for the other stuff, the triaxis/simul-class combo is unbeatable. I love it, and I can be happy with my setup indefinitely (as soon as I get a cab that can handle the power, my half-back 2x12 barely cuts the mustard). I was planning on getting a Soldano setup until I played with the Triaxis and realized that I needed more tonal versatility than a head can provide. If I had to go with a head, I would probably get a Soldano, though. Then when I saw Full on the Mouth, the guitarist had rackmount Soldano preamps, so I must now get one (some day in the distant future after my band has sold 100,000 of our first CD, out in a month or so). the Eventide is the most amazing effects processor on the planet, and it looks so fucking cool with that huge backlit LCD display. I've messed with an older model at a music store, and the sounds and sound quality was amazing. the 4,000 price tag is a little out of my budget at the present time, though (just wait for that CD to sell!) Bradshaw - how else am I going to control all of this crap? I'm pretty sure Dunlop doesn't make the rack-wah any more, but I don't see how I can hook up a wah normally with this setup without using long cords that really degrade the sound. I might just have to find a used one. I read about the Yamaha in Keyboard Mag. it's supposed to be really fast at converting guitar to midi, like the fastest one they've seen, better than the GR-30 and similar products, and uses Roland GK-2A pickup, which isn't real expesnive. well, that's my dream setup there. Any tone on the planet, and I can die happy with this rig. James C. Anybody have opinions on these? They seem to be able to read in just about every company's samples (although they don't read in any programming). I know that Derek and Kev never used them, but a lot of other prog players use them like: Rudess (who says he never records anything unless it is Kurzweil), Patrick Moraz (supposedly), Rick Wakeman (he has them listed on his website), and others. I'm looking into getting this or maybe an Akai sampler so I can get some Mellotron samples and Hammond Organ samples to do some prog music in the style of Genesis and Flower Kings. By the way, anybody heard of the Flower Kings? They are an awesome melodic prog band. Check them out at: http://www.users.wineasy.se/flowerkings/ Guitarists...go to the sound files and listen to the Judas Kiss off of their album Retropolis (which I consider the best prog album I own besides Images and Words). Awesome. They are not like DT, though. Also check out Retropolis and There's More To This World. Their newest album (2 CDs!!! for just $5 more than a regular CD!) has a killer 25 min song called Stardust We Are. They have some of the best keyboards I think in prog music right now. I think they use mostly Roland samples. The MadTabber ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 21:20:14 -0600 From: "KorgX3" To: Subject: Keyboards suck, you hole-sucking suckhole! Keyboard mag did a blow out of all the "B3 wannabes" -- a Hammond A-something came in first for "closest to a b3 sound" but among all the non-hammond synths, including the VK-7, an Oberheim unit, and several tone generators + drawbar units, the VK-7 came out clearly ahead in all categories. The leslie sim on the VK-7 is the best I've heard of any leslie sim. It's probably because the VK use s aphysical model for it, but it really has the guts that others I've heard (like the Trinity) lack. If you're a purist, it has the 11 pin leslie out so you can lug around a real leslie if you want to. Does Derek use a real leslie now that he's using the VK-7? I enjoy some Foo Fighters and a lot of obscure and obsolete shred as well, and I don't think they'll make it just because I like em). I DO think that the masters of jazz have attained immortality, and will be recognized as the Bach, Mozart, and Beethovens of the 20th century. They did a LOT to change music and took it to areas that have never been considered before, in a scholarly sense. But I think this century has seen more of a variety of music than any other (by necessity, since we've kept most of the styles of folk art-music created over the millenia, and added countless new forms)... I have to imagine that things that started significant genres--Punk, Metal, "New Wave," Rock, Pop, Acid Jazz, Funk, Soul, Motown... you name it... will all achieve some similar level of immortality. It'd be silly to argue over though, since it's nothing we could substantiate an answer for one way or the other. I like the dream gear idea. :) Mine's really simple. I want a rack with: A G-Force, an Eventide, my Simul-Class 2:90 and TriAxis, in conjunction with a Bogner Ecstacy head and an old Fender Twin. Then hook me up with 2 Marshall 4 X 12s with Celstion greenbacks and 2 Mesa 4X12s with Vintage 30s. For guitars, I need Steinberger to make me 2 7-strings: No headstock, but full guitar body, one in black with a scalloped fretboard, and one in blue, with a standard fretboard. This would probably require me to not only be rich, but also "The Next Steve Vai" to convince them to make this stuff. :) I wonder what kind of semi-hollow/hollow axe Steinberger could make.... nah... I'd just get a brand new Benedetto 7 string (they start at only $17K) archtop. I'd need SEVERAL acoustics... even most of the guitarists could care less about what I'd say there, so I'll just stop now... Go Home and Practice! There are a lot of different styles in their music, and that`s what makes this so special. But if you like your music, melodic, heavy, symphonic and a bit progressive you should definitely get the cd. It`s a concept album with different musicians and vocalists on different tracks. This is concidered a classic debut album. Actual fantasy is good too, but more straightforward and not as exciting. You should get that one too, but first you have to buy "The final expriment". Ayreon is also going to release a new double cd in september.=20 The singers are: - Fish (Fish, Marillion) - Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation) - Damian Wilson (Threshold) - Edwin Balgh (Tamas, Omega) - Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering) Just to name some of them. And the cd also includes guestmusicians from Gorefest, Arena, Vengeance, Camel,Soylent Green and Robbie Valentine. Bye, Bj=F8rnar, Norway !
