Great Wah use, great JLB wailing. Cool lyrics. Probably my fav on Awake. I know someone's gonna say "But SDV is the most emotional tune on the disc!" to which I will cough up yogurt. SDV is a nice little tune, but is really flat, IMO. Flat as in boring. Flat as in pancake, boyeeee! I missed the damn LTE chat. Foobar. Incidentally, Scott Hansen (e, or o?) took some fucking incredible shots at the Chicago and Madison (and Milwaukee?) shows. We're gonna scan some of the real knock-outs and put em on Prognosis (probably on UACM, unless Itchy objects). Kudos, Scott. Really, truly, awesome. Though I didn't see a picture of Hugo. :) - Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 00:50:53 -0700 From: Chris Oates To: email_address_removed Subject: catching up on threads Message-ID: Sorry, been busy with the last stages of having my play produced. It opened Thursday, and turned out p[retty cool (if you ask the author's opinion . ;) so, here's my taker on the recent threads. Singers other than LaBrie. I don't think he'd be a good singer, but can't you all see Axl Rose crooning OFB's songs? I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but got no response. Probably from the shock. :) I think it'd be a hoot. Setlists: Yeah, a representative setlist would be best. Her's my thoughts: BMS and PMU. Gotta do the radio singles, for exposure. Met or LtL -- one of the I&W era masterpieces -- maybe the medley version, but I don't think that would be as effective for a "new" audience. Prolly TTT -- don't they do this at every show? Scarred or Voices -- one of the Awake big songs LitS or ToT -- you got it, one of the fii long songs Then, throw in one or two shorter rockers, like JLMB or Mirror/Lie. I think they've got enough stuff to almost improvise the whole show. :) Voices: I'm not blown away by it either, but I blame Kevin. :) There's just NO interesting keyboard work in the entire song. Hell, _I_ could play it. There's _2_ guitar solos, and not one keyboard lead. :P I mean, it's a good song, but I do lose a bit of interest about the time of the 2nd guitar solo. Hm. noodles. I see noodles. ~Chris __../\..__ Chris Oates: email_address_removed __\/__\/__ +---- .\_||_/.. | "Still awake, I continue to move along, cultivating my | ./__||__\. | own nonsense" -Dream Theater, "Trial of Tears"=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0= =A0=A0=A0 | //.\ |..\\ ----+ ...\|.... http://www2.ucsc.edu/people/aspect/=20 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 01:11:27 -0700 (MST) From: Mad dog To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: MTv/Cur(v)e/ect Message-ID: I looked on the MTv online site, and found no info on Total Request. This seems bizzare to me, but I wandered around quite a bit and still got the big zero. No address or nothing. I have caught the show once or twice, and yes, they said something about the songs played beings the ones recieved the most votes within the past two hours or something. You can vote by phone, email, or by being where their on-the-street video camera is. And most importantly, my guess is that they don't allow more than one vote per email address. Which means I could only send in four (don't you just love free university accounts?). There's nothing wrong with liking the Cure. And on an unrelated note, The Curve and the Dandy Warhols will be in Phoenix on either July 7th or 27th, depending on who you believe, the bands or the venues. To get this back on track, Fatez' APSoG is currently playing for the second straight time. I haven't heard this album since the show and it still rules. And more prog-related content, I had a friend play the "Natural Science" on the Working Man tribute to hear how Devin does there. I wasn't terribly impressed. But on _Sex and Religion_ he is just amazing. I can't get enough of "Here and Now" through the title track. A note on the 'word' "prog" - I had a friend (big Rush and Floyd fan at that) who always thought that I was trying to say "Prague" which didn't make any sense to him. I spotted it in a catalogue, but the price was rather high so I won't bother getting it if it's the same as the European version, which I already own.

If it were true, I'm sure we'd have heard about it from Mike P by now. :-) Anyway, here is a list of all the upcoming Dream Theater related projects I'm aware of. More information (track listings, line ups, biography, artwork) can be found on "Under A Cyber Moon" at http://www.prognosis.com/dream/ : Rocket From The Crypt - "RFTC" This one will be released on Interscope Records on June 2nd, and has Derek Sherinian playing organ on one track and piano on another. Alice Cooper Tribute - "Humanary Stew" Yet another album with a contribution from Derek, along with a crapload of other musicians. It is supposed to be released late this summer, on Triage Records. Derek was also hired by Alice to arrange and orchestrate a 10 minute medley from the "Welcome To My Nightmare" album for his current tour. Explorers Club - "Age Of Impact" Conceived by Trent and Wayne Gardner from Magellan featuring an amazing lineup which includes LaBrie, Sherinian, Petrucci and a long list of other musicians. 53:29 minutes of intense prog, divided over 5 tracks, that will "rock your nadz". :-) It'll be out on Magna Carta on June 23rd (as far as I know). Platypus - "When Pus Comes To Shove" I am real anxious to get this one, after having heard "Willy Brown"... For those who don't know yet, Platypus consists of Derek Sherinian, John Myung, Rod Morgenstein and Ty Tabor... It's supposed to be released on Inside Out records in Europe this August (no date known yet) with a US release around the same time. ChromaKey - "Dead Air For Radios" Kevin Moore's long awaited project, scheduled to be released on Massacre Records, June 22nd (unless they postpone it once again)... According to Massacre "Dead Air For Radios" sounds like a mixture between Talk Talk, David Bowie and Rush. Gordian Knot This (instrumental) album is supposed to be the follow-up to Sean Malone's Cortlandt project with John Myung as a special guest on Stick... recording was scheduled to begin in April, with a release in the Summer. I have no idea if this project is still happening because I haven't heard anything about it in months. Any info about this project would be appreciated. Time to get that 2nd job. ;-) Does anyone have Mike Backoff's current email address for me ? I need to contact him about the DT discography I have on UACM. For all the slagging Jordan's been getting about supposedly holding back on LTE, he's nothing short of a master on the instrument, IMO. You know, I got just a great overall vibe coming from Derek when I first met him after a show. He is humble and I think he is getting better and better at fusing into the DT sound.
