But, am I happy hanging out at the back of a room of a general > admission show? Heck no, You shouldn't have to either! I'm 5'4", and most people tower over me at a concert. At the DT show in SF, I was about 8-10 rows back, and was standing behind Chris Oates throughout most of the show, he's about 5'9", and I would like to add that he DID graciously offer the spot in front of him to me (thanks Chris ) however, I declined. It wouldn't have made any difference anyway, considering the person in front of HIM was even taller. It's ridiculous to expect someone to give up their spot for someone else just because they happen to be tall... if it's so damn important for short people to be in front then they should get there earlier! I had this argument right after the Irving show, too. My viewpoint is that it's unfair for a short guy to have to get to the show earlier then the tall guy, just to enjoy the same thing. Ok, if the tall guy goes out of his way to get a good space, fine, this is america, he gets to keep it. But how about this: At that particular show, I was in the balcony where there were about 10 people behind one tall guy who stood stone still and eclipsed us all. Now, there was a wheelchaired person at the balcony and this tall guy might have been with him, in which case there's no problem. but I don't think so. I think in this case, the tall guy should have noticed that we couldn't see shit behind him. If he'd let us in front of him, it wouldn't have a *bit* of difference because it was all the balcony anyway! Just a little courtesy, a little lookin' out for your fellow man, that'd be nice. I'd do it for you. There were also two 7 footers near, but not at, the front, who didn't move at all. I don't believe they even changed facial expression. Basically the problem isn't so much with tall guys at the front, it's with tall guys right in front of *me*. If you move back a little, the angle isn't as steep and you can see a little better, but then you're bound to end up behind some other tall guy if you do that too much. The ideal solution would be to show up with really kickin' platform shoes or something, but I always forget to bring mine. What would be cool is if they'd step the floor, or at least angle it. That would help a little. Alternatively, I'm considering the purchase of rappelling(sp?) equipment and a grappling hook so I can just hang from the ceiling. josh ............................................................ I was right in the middle of it at the SF show. The original issue (and complaint) was not about moshing. What really happened was 3 large, drunken, smelly fellows decided to rush the front of the stage at the start of the show. (They started from the bar at the back of the hall.) This was a case of pushing, jumping on, and generally attacking everyone who had been standing there for an hour. Several less large patrons followed suit after the example was set. Of course this kind of stage rush ripples through the whole crowd. There was no MOSH! What they did may have gotten them killed at a Slayer show! The complaint has nothing to do with moshing! I've been in the middle of many pits at hardcore shows, and have never seen this kind of rudeness. My point - The original complaint really had nothing to do with moshing. The debate about the freedom of moshing really doesn't apply to the original problem. And hopefully the debate is all moshed out now. my .02, BH _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I'm not a extremely tall guy. I stand at 6' even, and rarely get called shorty. ;) The dude in front of me was a couple inches taller. No big deal, I scoot to the side a little, and I've got a perfect view. About half way through the show, this really tall guy about 6'5" or so, decides he wants the spot -in front- of me. He tried squeezing in. I said, "Hey man, spot's taken. Sorry!" He said, "Dude, let me through!" I was like, "Man, I was here how long ago and got this spot, and you want to get in front of me and block -my- view? Get real!" He copped an attitude with me a went off. If Mr. Audet, who got front and center that nite, happened to have been 7'5" and was blocking the view of James' knee-caps the entire show, who would have objected to him blocking James' knees the whole show?
