Just got an email from a Dutch news and entertainment website. Every Sunday they nominate a couple of websites for their site of the week award and this week 'Under A Cyber Moon' is one of them. :) They described UACM as follows : Dream Theater Hele mooie website van deze redelijk bekende band. My Dutch sucks ;-) but I think it means : Dream Theater Very beautiful website about a reasonably well-known band. If you want to help me win this award, visit UACM and click on the "Vote For UACM On Webnieuws" button... That'll take you to their page with the sites they nominated for the award... Then select "Dream Theater" and press the "Stem op deze site" (vote for this site) button. Make sure you vote before May 23rd ! Of course, if you think one of the *other* sites deserves to win, you should vote for *them*. You can also go to their voting page directly w/ the following address : http://www.webnieuws.net/weeksite/nominaties.html Lets show them how "reasonably well-known" Dream Theater is... ;-) Mark Bredius ____________________________________________________________ Dream Theater - Under A Cyber Moon E-mail: email_address_removed * http://www.prognosis.com/dream * Last updated: Today ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 1998 10:58:14 -0400 From: "Kurt Kober" To: Subject: World Without DT Message-ID: <01bd81a4$37d88bc0$message_id_removed> Forgive me if this has been asked before, but if someone went back in time and erased Dream Theater from human history, who would your favorite band be today? After hearing A Pleasant Shade of Gray, I'd like to say Fates Warning...but the truth is that if it weren't for Dream Theater I never would have bought a Fates Warning album. Probably if there never was a DT, my favorite band would be "old" something, like old Metallica or old Rush, and I'd be a pathetic retro maggot complaining about how there's no good music out today. Actually, that's what I am anyway... :) 1) Please no answers like, "Well, since DT never existed, I didn't go to the Birch Hill in 1995, so I was able to go to work on time the next day and I was involved in an automobile accident and killed, so in 1998 I wouldn't have a favorite band, because I'd be fucking DEAD, asshole!" 2) I would classify DT as a "progressive metal" band, although really I believe they defy genre. They're a Dream Theater band. But everyone gets genrefied to some extent. People who talk about DT tend to talk about other prog bands, many of which I like and could be contenders for that top spot, were it not for the fact that if not for DT, I never would have heard of them in the first place. Please try to give an answer about what you would do in a truly DT-less world. 3) Please no imaginary bands, i.e., Majesty 2, Liquid Tension Platypus, or Chroma Key. Oh wait, that last one isn't imaginary. Oh, no, wait, it is. Message-ID: Yo yo, All right people. My live DT virginity has been taken and, man am I sore! Uh! So, like, here's the story and stuff. I took the Amtrack bus from Salinas to San Jose, where I was met by a happy Lisa Marie, who had just purchased a new car. Mmmmmmm.... Women with fast new cars... So, immediately upon hearing that I hadn't heard any Spock's Beard, she tosses some on the sound system, which was very fucking good I might add. Both the band and the system! :) (Hi Lisa!) So Lisa kindly drives me up to the city. We got there in about a half an hour, so I'm pretty sure that we were doing a decent clip. Step II: Dave and Kim's! You guys rock! Two really really nice people with two really really nice cats and one antisocial one. We so missed you guys at the show. Then Niel Evans, Paul Humm, Sean, and Nickole show up (forgive me for missing you guys' last names.) Man these guys are the coolest people and they just have to live a bit too far for an "Oh, I'll hop in the car and pop over" visits. Waaaaaaah! But, like, we hang out and then Chris Oats (Hi Chris!!!) and his guitarist Chris (Hi Chris, even though you're not reading this!!!!) come over with their housemate Stephanne. Can I just say that you guys made me laugh more than I had in a good solid long time? That was so cool. Finally, the moment we'd all been waiting for: Coldfire arives with Ryan, M-bone, Pam, and... I think that was it. (Hi guys!!!) Coldfire proceeeds to lose her voice well ahead of the show. May I say that you haven't lived until Coldfire has been on her knees in front of you blowing into your hand? :) (Sorry, Carrol, I couldn't resist!) So, all the rockin' crowd is there and the party's good, there's good food, there's pictures goin' on, and everyone's just freekin' psyched! Step III: Concert-bound! Bidding a tearful adieu to Kim and Dave, we set out on the journey. Doing between 80 and 100 mph the whole way, we arive at the Maritime shortly. We meet Rick Audet, Dr. Mosh, and other people I don't remember. We get in, after much ado about nothing and the show starts in an hour and a half. Well, I have to go against the consensus of my group, I did not like Full on the Mouth that much. They had a good beat and some interesting ideas, but I just didn't get that into them. I got a good head-bang out of 'em, though. Then, I cream myself when DT finally comes out. Not only do they come out, but first everyone in the club sings Rooster and then they start the set with ACOS! Fucking awesome! I'm not going to go through the set lst, so I'll just hit some highlights. Swaying with the crowd to Anna Lee. Mike playing with random audience members. James making some comment about baseball when I waved my cane up at the guys. Carrol suffering stress and tension as I slowly inch my way up until I'm one person from the stage. JP's unaccompanied solow where he played My Way and, of course, Flight of the Bumble Bee. Mike Portnoy playing Eruption while Patrucci sat holding the guitar. Darick's solow before LITS. The clips from Hot for Teacher, Enter Sandman, and Have a Cigar. Getting freekin' moshed by big drunk guys with bad breath.Carrol rubbing up against me. :) (Sorry, again, had to throw that in there.) Leg IV: Meeting the Band. So we go outside while Coldfire and M-bone, Mosh, and others go back stage with passes. We wait a while and they start coming out. I had a 2-way conversation with John Meyung, thank you very much. I met James and made him froan with another person mentioning Caribou. I met JP and, not only got tips on improving vibrato, not only asked for and received a pick, but recieived *the* pick he had played with that night. I met Mike and varified that he actually did come around where I live quite often. Darick just blew right by me. Must have had a blonde waiting with her lips--I mean arms--open. We met Jenibear and her husband, which was also very cool. And Woot!!! The famous Woot!!! I'm so glad I met Woot!!! If only for the fact that I can type Woot!!! Wooot!!! Woot!!! Over and over again. Mike took a picture with us and the banner Carrol and Lisa had lovingly crafted for him. Then, we busted a move. Leg V: Returning to the Home of the Fire. So we end up scooting home, grabbing Jack in the Crack at like 3 in the morning and Lisa bails. M-bone and I go home to crash at Coldfire's. We listen to more sweet stuff. I gotta get Shadow Gallery's Carved in Stone, LTE, and maybe even a Conception albom. We crash around 5-30 and I get to listen to LTE until I wake up, which was awesome!!! (Thank you, Coldfire, for everything! You're the greatest, babe!) We wake up, or, more like get up, and watch some Alvan and the Chipmunks before I am escorted by M-bone (who better move to Cali and jam with me) and Coldfire and sent on my merry way. I just want to close by saying thanks to all the really nice and cool people who made this first DT show one of the greatest concert experiences of my life. I'm so happy that I wasn't Damoned, as Carrol has coined how not a single NJ jammer could pick up ol' Damon. It was awesome. You guys will always have a warm fuzzy place in my heart and I hope we do this again soon. Thanks so much again. Be you all very well.
