I didn't think the first one went thru 'cuz my shit mail system (pine, of which I will soon be free) crashed after I sent the first one. Anyhow... Someone mentioned using triple flange earplugs. I remember using those 10+ years ago when I visited a shooting range (10 out of 10 holes on the black, tankyouveddymuch [tm]). So which do you guys think is better -- the triple flange kind or the foam that you cram into your ears? Better = cut the sound as much as possible because my hearing is already shot. :) -Nicole/Kirby Nicole Stachowicz McWatters : I'm gonna graduate! Message-ID: Well,I know I'm kinda late with this, but who cares? Here's my opinions about I&W and Awake.I haven't listened FII enough to say anything about it without sounding like I didn't know what I'm talking about... Images & Words: 1. Pull Me Under : A- Great song, but I've listened too much of it. Kinda long intro.I absolutely love the part where band stops and James goes: "Watch the sparrow falling..." 2. Another Day : B I liked it at first, but now I think it's a bit boring.Great guitar solo!Really show how JP can "play for the song" 3. Take the Time : A- I like it.James goes really high on this one. Nice guitar/keyboards interplay. 4. Surrounded : B+ First I thought they totally ruined the song when the band kicked in,but I've started to really like this one.My girlfriend likes to sing along with this one,as well as PMU. 5. Metropolis : A+ I love this one! It's a blast to play along with! This was the song that really dropped my jaw when I heard I&W for the first time. 6. Under a Glass Moon : A- I really like vocals on this one. Also great guitar solo. This one is has it all. 7. Wait for Sleep : B- I loved this at first, but now it really bores me. I guess it should be played right before LTL, it really makes a great intro. 8. Learning to Live : A This is THE prog song of the album. It has some many themes and movements, that it's stunning.Myung also did great work with lyrics for this one. Awake : 1. 6:00 : C I don't like this too much. It's boring.I usually skip this one.Great intro, tough. 2. Caught in a Web : B- I didn't like this one either at first, but I've found some good bits out of it recently.Lyrics are pretty good. 3. Innocence Faded : B+ REALLY poppy chorus!Kinda boring at the beginning, but gets better after first chorus. The end of the song is very good, and I like the solo. 4. Erotomania : A+ I love this one!So does my girlfriend, and that really amazes me.She even made me tape this.I love playing along with this.Guitars and keys are really good all the way. 5. Voices : A- This song is really moody.I like the lyrics.Great song to listen in a dark room, when I'm really fucked up... 6. Silent Man : B Nice song, but bores me a little... 7. Mirror : A- Ok,I know this should be about my opinions, but I just have to say that my girlfrien as well as my mother really like the intro on this one.And so do I. It gets boring in the middle, but gets better again in the end. 8. Lie : A+ GREAT lyrics!Really heavy song.I truly love this one. The solo in the end, where Mirror takes over again is one of the best I've heard! 9. Lifting Shadows of a Dream : B Really mellow, and a bit boring in the beginning, but the instrumental interlude in the middle is great! 10. Scarred : A+ One of the best on this album.Really emotional. Great lyrics again.Good solos from both,Kevin and John. 11. Space-Dye Vest : A- I guess I'm a bit tired of this song, otherwise it would be worth A.Everyone who I've played this to has liked it.I like the use of samples here. Ok,that's about it.Remember, these are all "IMO",so there's no need to be offended.Hell,it's my second post today.I'm really on tonight!!! ~Jani~ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 09:34:55 -0700 From: Carol Dellinger To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: West Coast Message-ID: Okay you guys are going on and on about how there are so few Prog Females out on the wrong, er oops East Coast....hehehehe My Question is....when are we Correct, er West Coast Prog Females gonna meet some prog males out here??????? I use the triple flange shooting earplugs, > and they kick some serious ass for concerts. Even Yngwie doesn't hurt. Hmm. Kevin Madden, Spy. :) Seriously, there are two things I have learned over the years of pounding my hearing: 1. The expensive (12db of reduction) Sonic II's do work - triple flanges and all - but are rather uncomfortable, and I can't wear them while we're playing. That's OK, though, because our stage volume is about half of what most clubs run at. The reason Yngwie is so freakin' loud is that he plays INSANELY loud onstage, thereby making the soundman have to crank the mains to get a good mix. "If it's too loud, you're too old" no longer applies - I've seen shows that were SO loud they weren't even LISTENABLE, much less enjoyable. 2. Cymbals are the worst, man. If we rehearse the day after a show, EJ can put me in some severe pain just by hitting a crash when I'm near it. > > Cd of the Day: Death - individual thought patterns > Good one, although I liked "Human" a bit more.
