The archive on ax.com is busted and it doesn't seem likely to get fixed any time soon, so I (a while ago) set up an archive at: ftp://ftp.dreamt.org/pub/ytsejam/ Its got all the jams since some time in the 2000's. If you want something older than that, send mail to email_address_removed and I will see what I can do. Agreed. Now, there are situations - like Yngwie at Jaxx - when the sound is SO loud that it actually vibrates the plugs in your ears. In that case, the best hearing protection I could find was a brick wall... :) Part of the problem at Daytona's was WHAT you were hearing - the sound was very un - musical, and overly bright, which does more damage, as high end hearing is more sensitive than low end. I believe that's the case, anyway - anyone care to crrect me if I'm wrong? :) As a band member that's been totalling his hearing for 15 years now, I have one comment to make to the live sound engineers out there - music is more enjoyable when you can stand in the room it's being played in, and if it SOUNDS good. Which is why I go to Jaxx, and usually won't go to Daytona's, even if I'd like to see the band twice. Even though it's usually too loud, at least it sounds good... > Skadz > Ytsejam Moderator > email_address_removed Skadz lives! All hail the king... Mike Division - With King Diamond, May 14th. There is one for Bostonians and one for New Yorkers (well, li'ers, but new york ends once you get north or west of manhattan, so ya know ;) If you are in Boston and want to get on the boston list, email me (email_address_removed) and if you wanna be on the new york list mail Chris "I kinda sorta live in New York, right?" Merlo (email_address_removed). Also, if you would like to set up a local mailing list for your area, email me (email_address_removed) and I will set one up as quickly as I can. These are NOT real mailing lists, just aliases on my machine, so for the time being I have to do any admin manually. Echoes was, for a long time, my favourite song. Very few songs move and shift me around as much as that one. And given that it was written in the late 60s (not recorded till ike 1970 though) it could be one of the earliest "proggy" songs. And.. for a real good trip.. turn on "Echoes" at the exact instant that the title for the last part of 2001 appears on your TV screen.. ("Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite"). The match PERFECTLY (and i believe intentionally as well.. since the early floyd boots of echoes had lines such as "planets meeting face to face" etc etc.) BTW: I am *still* depressed that I never got any ticket stubs to keep after the DT shows. Damned bouncer at the Philly show tour mine in half. grr. Careless. Great show though.. prolly one of my best concert experiences ever (even better than Rush). -Ponte ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 15:41:38 +0000 (Local time zone must be set--see zic manual page) From: "Ryan P. Skadberg" To: email_address_removed Subject: Club Gigs/Derek Message-ID: Hi All ... Just wanted to address two threads that have been going on here lately real quickly. Someone sent a post some time over the weekend, I think, which said he hated club gigs. I have to totally and completely disagree. Club gigs are THE only way to see a band. I have been to concerts numbering in to the hundreds in the last few years and I think about 10 of them were not club gigs (this includes Rush twice). When you go to a club, you get alot of advantages. First of all, you can actually see the band. Second, when the 7 foot guy stands in front of you in a club, you can move. If you are in a seated venue, you are STUCK. In a club, the acoustics are usually better too since the place is kinda designed for music instead of a hockey game. Lastly, tell me the last time you stood five feet away from your favorite artist at an arena show? Front row tickets are hard to come by, whereas getting there earlier or cutting the through the crowd is a breeze. :) Just my opinion, but if any bands I like that are doing clubs now start doing bigger places, I hope they throw in a club gig or two here and there to balance out :) Secondly, a few people have been talking about Derek and his personality. Well, I just have to say that he is a great guy and has always been good to me both in person and over the net. Real nice guy, who I think really loves being in DT and is trying to enjoy every minute of it :) Skadz --- Ryan Skadberg | "there's a space beside us Ytsejam Moderator | and there's miles between us email_address_removed | and all around us http://www.dreamt.org/ | grows this shade of gray" | _A Pleasant Shade of Gray_ - Fates Warning ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 15:49:08 +0000 (Local time zone must be set--see zic manual page) From: "Ryan P. Just some more moderator stuff :) When you are posting to the jam, PLEASE turn off things like special fonts, HTML email, etc. I am sick of seeing two things: WINMAIL.DAT and a message with the same message in HTML after it. Also, please LIMIT the quoting you do when you reply to a message. All it does is take up space and waste bandwidth. If someone is reading your reply, they probably already read the original message or they wouldn't wanna read your reply in the first place :) Just send a line or two which is pertinent to the reply, don't send the whole damn message. If someone really wants to read the original, they can go back and find it. Thanks! Skadberg" To: email_address_removed Subject: A Note from the Moderator Message-ID: Hi All ... Well, I think I have gotten most of the mail I wanted to send out, so I will send this one now. Alot of people seem to be wondering why the hell I started posting again and reading and laying the law down, so I thought I would explain. (and the rumor the paul "gimme some" cashman is trying to start about missing drugs is completely untrue ;) (irc joke ;) First, I want to apologize. In the last few months between my work schedule and my constant attempt to have a life, I have let the ytsejam get out of hand. I didn't have the time to read and I didn't have the time to keep up on the unsubs and things just got out of control. Alot of people got away with stuff I normally would not allow, but since I wasn't reading and only hearing things via IRC or something, I didn't do anything about it. I mean that Mike guy starts posting to the list I run and I heard about it on IRC ;) So, this past weekend, I was heading down to New York for Mother's Day and found out DT was going to be playing NY and NJ right aroung the same time, so I decided to take some vacation time and go see them. The shows were incredible to say the least (more on this later), but what they really did was wake me up. For the first time in a while, I remembered why I took this job a long time ago (its been two years now). I did it because I love this band and love talking about and hearing about them and talking to the fans of the band. Over time I have probably met somewhere around 200 jammers and its always nice to meet these people I have been talking with over the net for so long. So, I want to say thanks to all of you for making this list what it is and ask that we try to make it even better. I want this list to be something I and everyone on it enjoys reading. And remember, it is your list, so make it a good one. Some of the guys in the band read the list and I don't think they need to hear any bullshit or stupid shit, I think they really wanna hear what the fans have to say about them and about other things which interest them. So, in closing, if you have any questions, comments, etc, feel free to send them to me. Things in my life are getting a bit calmer slowly but steadily and hopefully I will be able to keep up on mail and do my best at moderating this list. Dr Mosh and I have set up two IRC servers which are connected to nothing but each other for the purpose of chat about DT and all things progressive. The servers are: irc.dreamt.org and irc-2.dreamt.org. You need to connect on port 2112. If you know nothing about IRC, get an IRC client from TUCOWS or something and try it. IRC is basically a chat network much like AOL's chat rooms. Get on to one of the servers and join the channel #ytsejam and come chat. There are almost always people around.
