With his allowance, I forwarded our discussion to this list. PP: Well, Graham, I don't know how many times I have to say this: I don't know why I do it and I don't know how I do it and I don't know how to avoid doing it!!! I'm not doing this to annoy you, because until just recently I wasn't aware that this happened!!! GB: Ahh. Sorry. PP: I can either send my posts as MIME (with all the BASE64-crap at the end) or without MIME, using some UUENCODE kinda thingy (what that now is... I'm using it now, and you know what it looks like) - I STILL haven't found an option to send it as PLAIN TEXT, which would have been a lot better... GB: Which software are you using? New note: I (am forced to) use Microsoft Exchange 4.0, if that helps. PP: Does the crap come with my private letters as well??? GB: No, just the Ytsejam posts. PP: Lord, I guess I'm making a hard time for everyone here... sorry. :-( GB: I'll forgive you. :-) New note: Thank heavens! :) PP: Is it okay if I forward this to the YML, just making everyone aware of my incompetence? GB: Fine with me . . . Now, if this shit with Winmail.dat still happens, PLEASE give me some advice on HOW TO GET RID OF IT! My appreciation would go beyond understanding! Thank you! Hmmm... Is this DT-related? Eh... DREAM THEATER RULES! So when I saw the tape of SNL from last Saturday, I was pretty amazed at the musical performance. I have a theory of how it came to be...................... Good afternoon, Mr Page, or I guess that I can assume that I can just call you Jimmy? Yes, We've been doing business for quite awhile, eh? Well anyway, you're probably wondering why I called for a personal conference, so I'll just cut to the chase. I need to call in a favor Jimmy, a big one. What favor? Remember your last big tour, Jimbo, the reunioun with Mr Plant and the sold out stadiums and the reviews and the MTV and the platinum record and how everyone was so blown away because it all sounded *just like Zeppelin used to*. It was all just what you wanted and all I said it would cost (besides your immortal soul which you traded me in, um, '70 wasn't it?) was just some benefit concerts in the future. Well, the future has arrived, my boy! (Now that you have one again heh heh!) That's right, the future! I need you to do an appearance, just one song really, you could deal with that when you were smacked out of your skull. This will be easy. It's an appearance on Saturday Night Live. Great exposure for you, and a nice easy to damn cynical audience for me. Oh no, it's not just you or even you and Mr Plant. No... it's not with Mr Paul Jones either and we agreed years ago that his name was not to be mentioned again. Nope! Nope! You'll never guess this one.... Alright, I'll tell you. I want you to play the guitar part from "Kashmir" while that rapper fellow, 'Puff Daddy' raps to it. We've even lined up an orchestra. Uh, no, actually, he's not singing "Kashmir" he's rapping. Yeah, isn't that cute? He was so inspired by your song that he wrote some of his own words to it. I can see you're just *speechless* with anticipation. Isn't it great? Isn't this just going to be history in the making? Hmm, now *that* isn't a very good attitude coming from someone as successful and as lucky as you. I would think that a little bit of gratitude would show here. How very uncharitable of you to not want to lend your presence to give this young man's career a little leg up, like you were given twenty nine years ago when you somehow got away with writing your own words to "Dazed and Confused". And need I remind you, Jimmyboy that you're one of a very short list of elite customers from your generation who's managed to avoid crashing in aeroplanes or choking to death on their own vomit? You've had a long and brilliant career and now it's time to give something back. C'mon Jim, play ball with me here. Yes I know this gig might be a little distasteful to you, but I've got to think of my bottom line. I'm Sorry, Yours is not the only soul I own and as special as yours is to me I still have millions of souls around the world that I need to acquire yet. Let's be for real here, I'm the Unholy Prince of Darkness and my job description has a hell of alot more to it than "Give Jimmy Page a career again." Yes, you're right, this is going to piss a hell of alot of people off and cause lots of argument and bickering. That's my business, remember? And wasn't Zeppelin in the middle of exactly that kind of mayhem in it's day? Let's face it Jimmylad, controversy and pissing off the grownups and establishment has always been a vital part of your career *and * mine. That's why we've gotten along so well so far. This is nothing new. This is a sweet , sweet deal Jimmeroony! Forget those silly words like 'sellout' and 'integrity' When have you ever had a problem with them before? You go to New York and play this gig (which as I said you could handle even if you were totally blitzed) You'll be treated like a God (which is sure to piss of His burning bushness) with all the smack or crack or babes or booze or whatever you can stomach. Then in the aftermath, You get to stay in the spotlight with everyone arguing about you, (which is always good for sales figures), Puff Daddy gets to make art history, and his success will get to impress the hell out of a whole new crop of potential customers. And in the meantime, everyone who watches is guaranteed to be miserable about it for one reason or another, which makes for more evil doing and more business for me. See? We all benefit. Now be a good boy and go change your guitar strings and when your agent calls with the offer you just take it and be a good sport about the whole thing. I'm back.... (At least I think it was) First off, you can give your real e-mail address so that I wouldn't have to post this non-DT post to the jam. This isn't USENET where people will spam you to death, you know. Secondly, there is only so much you can talk about DT and Progressive music before it gets old. If you want a moderated list, go to TNMS, which will bore you to death with analysing Rush songs to the minute detail. I LIKE some of the off topic stuff. What I don't like, I scroll past. Simple as that. Thirdly, you are causing the exact thing you want stopped. All you are doing is causing more non-DT content by having people respond to your complaint. If you really want to change things, change the subject. That is the best way of getting the list back on track. This does not help. >I knew that this would get me flamed by those it was directed to. >The mere fact that this started yet another inane thread is PROOF of >what I was trying to say. I just don't want to see this list You lost a lot of points with me with this statement. See above. I normally would not post this to the list, but this guy apperently wants this to be the next subject of discussion on the list. Personally, I'd rather talk about Puff Daddy than this. It is much more entertaining. :^) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Birzer There is a theory which states that if anyone "The Longshot" discovers what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be email_address_removed replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. Granted, his stage presence and setup (with the TVs and lava lamps - from last leg of the tour at least) is unorthodox compared to what we were used to with Kevin. But I think that it just makes the show more interesting, more lively (you gotta admit that this tour seems very relaxed and fun compared to years past), etc. Granted, I'm a huge Kevin fan and all, and I think that losing him had a huge impact of Dream Theater and its music, but I think Derek is bringing some "chutzpah" to Dream Theater in its live shows. -Al ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ email_address_removed OR email_address_removed OR email_address_removed HOMEPAGE:http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/9280/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 14:42:04 +0000 (Local time zone must be set--see zic manual page) From: "Ryan P. This will be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session. I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be weekly. To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List: Send mail to email_address_removed For the subject of the message put: asdf In the body of the message put: subscribe ytsejam Your Name replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg). You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail email_address_removed and I will help you out as soon as possible. To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in: There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this: Send mail to email_address_removed For the subject of the message put: asdf In the body of the message put: set ytsejam mail ack OR set ytsejam mail digest If you have any problems, please mail email_address_removed. To get off the Dream Theater Mailing List: Send mail to email_address_removed For the subject of the message put: asdf In the body of the message put: unsubscribe ytsejam You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours. If you don't, once again, please mail email_address_removed and I will help you out as soon as I can. To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List: There are many files kept by the mailing list server. The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue earlier than that, please mail email_address_removed and I will see what I can do. There are also other files kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates, The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others. Any time I add something I usually send a post to the jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the files available from the server: Send mail to email_address_removed For the subject of the message put: asdf In the body of the message put: index ytsejam This will send you a list of all the files available from the server. To retrieve one of these files: Send mail to email_address_removed For the subject of the message put: asdf In the body of the message put: get ytsejam filename In place of filename, put the name of the file you want. Basic Rules: There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second offense will get your jam priviledges taken away. 1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule you should all try to follow is to think before you post. 2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very nice. 3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past. If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to private email, anyone continuing the discussion will recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind Melon, bands selling out, etc. 4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it may be more useful than posting to the jam. 5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around, and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way. I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis, so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the time, I will get back to you eventually. Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!
