I am wondering which ones of you will be attending the Birch Hill DT show on May 7th? I for one will be there with my girlfriend by my side. Got my tickets yesterday from ticketbastards (boy these guys get a nice cut of the cake!). We'll be driving nine hours to get there, down from Quebec. This will be our first DT show and we wanted to catch them in a 2 hour set before they became an opening act. Desperate times call for desperate measures! Anyway, if you plan to be there, I'd like to know. This is gonna be the show, or dare I say experience, of a liftime! This, by the way, is a disc that is very high on my all time favorite albums list. It is a concept album with horns and orchestration. It came out in '89 on Metal Blade Records. If anyone wants to hear a sample I could zip an MP3 of one of the songs. Apparently, there is a Korean company, "Si-Wan Records" that is considering a new release of IaGH. Let me explain why I think I like FII better than DT's other albums... I come from being raised on jazz, not rock. I'm not one for the heavy guitar crunch, I like it, but I prefer a band to groove, and play with some real feeling, form, and subtlety. Not saying that other guitar bands don't have these qualities, or other DT albums, I just think that the writing is so much better on FII. It's kind of like with QR, my fav album of theirs is Promised Land, because of the artistic sound of the music. While their other albums are also excellent, I just really like some artistic MUSIC. I'm more into the musical aspects of songs than lyrics, and I think that it's because of my jazz influence. I think "Rockers" may tend more toward Awake and IAW, and that's fine, everybody has their own preference. I'm curious to see if anyone else feels the same way, or if i'm totally off base here.... BTW, One band I'm shocked to see not mentioned with theme writing is my other fav band, Queensryche, Operation:Mindcrime has to be one of the greatest thematic(or concept) albums ever made. True, i wouldn't say Empire would fit as much, but I think Promised Land definitely does. The theme of someone finding themselves is potent in this album to me... Let's keep up the great discussion!!!!! -- Geaux Tigers!!!! http://www.angelfire.com/la/qryche/index.html "I Know If I Try, I'll Get Where I'm Going/ Keeping My Eyes On the Sky" -"Some People Fly" by Queensryche ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 23:04:21 -0700 From: Chris Oates To: "Ytsejam (E-mail)" Subject: Moaning Message-ID: Any Tori Amos song.
