Yay! Message-ID: <4AA929543BC8D111A4E800600808ACE51744B3@HAMSXHA2> I love reading all this HTML in the jam... Anyways. I'm bopping around Tower Records in Burlington last night (where animals eat their young), and I'm looking for the usual stuff. You know, any new DT (nope, and there's the DTC for this email), any Symphony X (nope), 'Perspectives' by Jason Becker (nope), 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' by Duran Duran on CD (nope - and no ragging on me for this one), and a couple of other things. So I'm really disappointed, and ready to take the kid behind the counter (who has more metal in his face than a 1971 Chevelle - where do they find these people?) and scream at him, when I take a peek down the 'R' section, and in the understock, there it is - Royal Hunt! So I pick myself up off the floor and buy 'Paradox' (and the new Tactical Knives magazine, because I'm a psycho mercenary in my spare time). RH is, IMHO, really good! Very low-key, restrained playing, esp. by the bass player - who has a rippin' tone - but you get the impression (especially on Martial Arts) that these guys can tear it up when they want to. The whole concept of the album (religious) also is very interesting to me, as it's sort of a side-hobby of mine. I really like it. And I almost bought Paul Gilbert's new one, but I was born a poor white Irish boy... that's a story for another time, though. Like when I killed that tiger with my shoe.... And let's not forget "Decadence Dance," or a host of other songs on II and III. The reason I don't like VH III is because the songwriting just isn't trademark Eddie anymore. I think he tried too hard to be serious. Van Halen was always the ultimate party band. They were about one thing, and that was fun. Van Halen getting all deep and serious about anything other than drinking and fucking is about as natural as Metallica playing country tunes. (Oh, sorry.) I've given VH III its fair share of spins. It just doesn't plaster a smile on my face and leave me humming melodies for the rest of the day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Digital Man \|/ ____ \|/ "640 K ought to be enough email_address_removed "@'/ ,. \`@" memory for everyone." -Gates email_address_removed /_| \__/ |_\ "He won't need a bed http://www.cs.wm.edu/~cmerlo \__U_/ He's a digital man" -Peart ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "The Spirit of Radio" Saturday 2:00pm-4:00pm 90.7 WCWM-FM http://www.cs.wm.edu/~cmerlo/tsor ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 3787 **************************
