The phrase "kill all the white people, then we'll be free" IS from Bloody Kisses. I mean, look at the track listing and you'll see a song called "Kill all the white people"... Brandon Vaughn said: >>> Is Petrucci using a piezo? > >>Excuse my ignorance, but what is a piezo? (in layman's terms, please) > >A piezo is basically a pickup. (Correct me if I'm wrong, guys) You can A piezo IS a pickup. Just not the same type of pickup that you usually associate with eletric guitars. Piezos are still the standard type of pickup placed in eletric/acoustic guitars such as Ovation, Takamine, Fender and Ibanez. Some companies are looking for better technology because the piezo pickup has a very characteristic sound and adds coloration to the original sound of the guitar (basically it gives you practically the same sound characteristics regardless of the guitar that's attached to the pickup). it sits right under your bridge, so the sound it picks up is also rather trebly. A piezo pickup, much more so than a regular eletric guitar pickup (with those big magnets), depends on the strings output. The more resonant the body is, the better will be the sound and the "accoustic effect". There are also basses designed with piezo pickups, especially solidbody or semi-chambered basses that are built to give a more "acoustic bass" sound. I hope that helps. Are "Beware of Darkness" and "The Kindness >of Strangers" better sounding discs? It's possible that you started with the wrong disc. It's also possible that you just don't like Spock's Beard. Nothing wrong with that. I happen to *love* Neal's voice, but if it's a big problem for you, then you just might not like the other cds either. Personally, The Light is my least favorite of the three, and believe it or not, I have heard others with complaints similar to yours. But if you can get over Neal's voice, you really might want to check out BoD, or TKoS... I'd recommend either of those before I would recommend The Light. BoD was produced in part by Kevin Gilbert before his untimely death... his input had a large impact on the resulting sound of that album. IMO, TKoS could very well be Spock's Beard's greatest work yet... it's been consistently receiving high marks from various prog magazines, and I haven't heard one descending opinion on it yet. I think it might be worth it for you to give either of them a shot... I'm sure you could get rid of the cds easily enough if you find they are still not to your liking. >Then again, this might be Conception all over again. I picked up "Flow" >after rave reviews of Conception and was mostly unimpressed. Then I picked >up "In Your Multitude" -- wow, what a difference. Now I even like "Flow" >better than I used to. Interesting. Maybe you just shouldn't listen to me at all... I just *loved* Flow instantly. It's my favorite of the four, and it didn't leave my cd player for about 2 months. I imagine my friends are wide-eyed and open-mouthed right now... yes, I actually stopped listening to Spock's Beard for a time :op Back to your regularly scheduled love fest...
