Um, yeah I'd have to agree with this, however, what DT is known for is a little of everything. I mean, look at I&W and Awake. They were defiantly full of metal but also had the good progressive stuff that DT is known for. It wouldn't be DT if it wasn't.... um.... (for lack of a beter term) DT. DT is their own style of music period. However, while I still love FII, etc, something a little heavy thrown in would meet no objection. I want to throw in a bone here.. I haven't been a drummer for long, but the sheet music I have seen is on /regular/ notesheets, the different tonehights representing different instruments.. Yes it can seem rather confusing and uninuitive, but you get used to it. >i dont know its probably something like atleast a 20 piece set, >and a musical staff only having 5 lines, yea.. But you have 10 different possibilities... And then you jsut take two musical staffs.. It is REALLY hell to read it.. But after you play through it VERY VERY slowly you get the idea, and it is possible to start speeding up. Another way I have seen it done is to use the previously mentioned technique, and then put it into patterns, like in MOD files. Yes it's complicated But for complicated pieces it's still (for me anyway) easier then figure out every part manually. Excuse my ignorance, but what is a piezo? (in layman's terms, please) On the whole metal vs. prog DT debate......... I've seen references to I&W as being DT's metal stuff. If I&W is their metal, what do you consider to be their prog stuff? (personally, I think of I&W as being the MOST PROGESSIVE, and not extremely metallic). The only thing close to "metal" on I&W to me would be PMU, UaGM and Metropolis (and at the same time, I consider UaGM and Metropolis VERY prog as well). My idea of DT's metal would be stuff like The Mirror, Lie, BMS etc (and generally speaking, I consider Awake to be their most "metal" album) So, my question is how exactly do we define "progressive" and "metal" and what differentiates "progressive metal" from "progressive hard rock"? Also, what exactly is the definition of "power metal"?
