Yeah, that's it. It was late and I was tired. Christian remarked: > Speaking of Artension, I heard > recently that John West is joining George Lynch in his new Lynch Mob band. > Anybody knows if that is true and how that affects Artension? John handled the vox for a recent leg of the Lynch Mob tour. According to John and George, it's only a temporary thing, though John did say he enjoyed the shows he did. And as far as the crowd is concerned.. sure the early bands only get a handful of people.. but show up at 7pm and there are at least 4000 people there. Usually a better turn out than arts fest shows. I rememebr how cool it was when Rusted Root played there (i know i know.. most of ya prolly dont like rusted root).. there were at least 4-5000 people crowding the hub lawn. Helmet also had probably close to 3000 or 4000 people.. and I can tellyou that they were less popular that Dream Theater is. It woudl be a cool way to attract a lot of new fans, especially those who are walking by and think "wow.. they sound awesome.. i want to check them out!". Alas.. dreams.. only dreams. Another ironic story.. i was talking with the crowbar manager (downtown state college) - a place which brings acts as "Live", and asked them "did you gyus ever try to get Dream Theater to play here".. and the responec "You think they would play here? I thought they only played big venues!". Testimony to their popularity here. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 03 Apr 1998 12:33:08 -0500 (EST) From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: opening for other bands Message-ID: Date sent: 3-APR-1998 12:24:12 somebody wrote how DT could never open for DMB because one is so much more popular. I don't get it. Isn't that the whole idea of opening bands? Exposure? If I were in charge, I would pair only marginally related bands for a tour. Give the underdog a timeslot advantage, much like "Veronica's Closet" on NBC. I didn't really think about it until I started typing but I have to agree with the fact that most DMB fans I know are a little more open-minded and at least a few of them have heard of and like DT as well. Not as much as me, of course... So wouldn't it make perfect sense to give DT exposure to 25,000 somewhat openminded people? I saw queensryche last summer and do you know who opened? Piston! This is a punk band! I have absolutely no interest in punk albums! And you know what? They were pretty good. I was glad to have heard them even though demographics might speak otherwise. In fact, what the hell kind of relation does Big Wreck have with DT? very little that I can discern. And I was very glad to have heard them. Twice. So I think it would be a funky experiment worth checkin' out. josh ............................................................ Check out Another Page at www.j51.com/~mrasiel. Can't wait to see that show (even though I could live without Beck) I think that there is a slight difference between DT opening for DMB and Big Wreck opening for DT. don't know exactly what it is, but I know there is a difference there.....I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I think that the majority of DMB fans wouldn't be turned on to DT by seeing them....IMHO, of course. I happen to have the advantage of being able to like both of them just about equally as much, depending on the mood I'm in... -Al -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= w e w a l k i n t h e d a m a g e o f m a n k i n d -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= email_address_removed OR email_address_removed OR email_address_removed HOMEPAGE:http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/9280/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Apr 1998 13:04:16 -0500 (EST) From: Al Balkiewicz To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: Innocence Cheesy?
