Message-ID: Hey folx - Okay, as many of you probably know, Music Boulevard (http://www.musicblvd.com) has been advertising 2 separate "Hollow Years" Japanese singles for some time now, one released on 2/26/98, and another supposedly released on 3/17/98. Anyway, they have a track listing for the 2/26 one (which is the single everyone seems to have with BMS/AH/TKH on it), but still no track list for the 3/17 version. I'm dying to know what the difference is, and I'm gonna e-mail Music Blvd. as soon as I'm done typing this, but I may have just figgered sumthin' out... They list the 2/26 single in the following manner: Hollow Years Dream Theater Ew , Released 02/26/98 IMPORT - JAPAN SINGLE I would imagine that the "Ew" refers to EastWest. No problems here. The 3/17 single, however, is listed thusly: Hollow Years Dream Theater Pid , Released 03/17/98 IMPORT-JAPAN So, I'm sitting here racking my brain.... "What the HELL does Pid mean?"... and then it hits me.... Picture Disc? Maybe I'm smokin' crack, but so far it's the best idea I've come up with. Whaddya all think? Am I totally barking up the wrong tree here? Mike P, if you're reading this, are there 2 versions of the single? If so, are there different B-Sides on the 2 versions? Anyway, that's it for now. Discuss. Laterz..... Matt T. Message-ID: For those that missed the April Fools prank that replaced the FAQ yesterday, you can still check it out for a bit. It will remain up for a couple of days until the FAQ update is finished (sometime this weekend). http://www.prognosis.com/gabbo/dt/dtfaq.html (there is no link to this on my site until the FAQ is updated for real) Also, there is some confusion about the Dunkin' Donuts image that I used. I did not create the image, it was given to me by Ptacek after he saw the original version of the prank, and I thought it was funny enough to add. I had no idea who made it until yesterday when I got a rather angry letter from the creator. Apparently people told him that I was taking credit for the image, which is just not true. No where on the page, list, or IRC did I attempt to take credit for creating it. The actual artist is John Gilbert (jg on IRC). My appologies to him for the confusion, but I have never attempted to take credit for artwork which was not mine originally. Take a look at my web page sometime... if it's not listed on the copyright page, then I made it myself, including all backgrounds, buttons, and separators. Sorry about the rant, but I don't appriciate accusations of plagarism when I make every effort to keep my work original. I talked to jg on IRC last night and things seem to be resolved with him, so I hope this puts an end to things. h t t p : / / w w w . p r o g n o s i s . c o m / g a b b o / | Pat Griffin Reality Squared Design | | email_address_removed email_address_removed | h t t p : / / w w w . p r o g n o s i s . c o m / g a b b o / ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Apr 1998 11:16:15 +1000 From: email_address_removed.au To: email_address_removed Subject: UNCLASSIFIED:-Re: New Places to Tour Message-ID: >Blah, blah, blah, blah. I've been talking with a friend of mine recently about keyboards and their place in music. She isn't as heavily into them as I am, and doesn't like the idea of walls of synth sound or orchestras blended with rock. I, on the other hand, think songs with strings and walls of keys blending with the metal or rock sound are really cool. Songs like Magellan's "Impending Ascension", Symphony X's "The Accolade", Payne's Gray's "Moonlight Waters", and so on. So, I'm making her a tape. With prominent keyboards and orchestrated prog. Now, I've got several ideas already, but I'd like to hear recommendations from you 'jamanoids. What songs would you recommend that have lots and lots of keyboards, or lots of strings and orchestra mixed in with the rock sound? I'd like to show her that I'm not just losing my mind, and that it really does sound cool. :) Post replies here (I think the 'jam would benefit from something like this) or send 'em to me via private email, I don't care. :) Here's a couple of the one's I've selected already (aside from the ones I listed above): Angra: "The Shaman", "Queen of the Night" Rush: "Chemistry", "Marathon", "Mission", "Subdivisions"...hmm, there are a lot of these Conception: "Gethsemane", "A Million Gods", "Under a Mourning Star" Payne's Gray: "Within the Vault", "Reaching Kadath", "Riding the Shantak" LTE: "Kindred Spirits" Glass Hammer: "Stranger from the Sky", "Time Marches On", "Twilight on Longview" Magellan: "Songsmith", "No Time for Words", "Storms and Mutiny" Lemur Voice: "Intuition", "Akasha Chronicles" Anybody else? For one, nobody would show up, yeah there's 40 thou of ya there, but you ain't all showin' up. In fact there were probably 40 people there watching shadowland. I've been listening to their last CD, Much Afraid, for months now, it just keeps coming back to my CD player. Beautiful stuff. Other stuff that might interest... I recently bought Vitalij Kuprij's solo CD called High Definition... if you want the ultimate in neoclassical (I know it's not the correct term but everybody knows what I'm talking about) shread metal, you gotta listen to this. Vitalij is a top-notch keyboardist, and if you liked Jordan Rudess' work on LTE, you need to listen to Vitalij. Plus, Greg Howe plays guitar on the CD and his playing is just insane. Vitalij plays in a band called Artension. Speaking of Artension, I heard recently that John West is joining George Lynch in his new Lynch Mob band. Anybody knows if that is true and how that affects Artension? Later!
