What if Glenn is Jewish and takes exception to a German band naming themselves 'Superior'? What if he's not joking? What if he's totally serious? Then won't you look like a dickhead? Come on, cut a guy some slack before you tear into them like this. Some people might genuinely be offended by a German band named 'Superior'. Personally, I like the name, German band or not; I like the band (for the most part), and I like everyone involved here, but this was WAY out of line. Seriously, 40 or so tracks in 28 minutes for Torture Garden.... and more time signatures, textures and chaos than much else I've heard. Not to mention the two BEST soloists: John Zorn and Yamatsuka Eye! :) Also, Australia's own Blood Duster have some damn fine short songs..... this band aren't everyone's cup o' coffee, though. Seeya! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the studio track "Eve" is on the bonus disc, and I've also heard that not even OFD (MP) has a copy of this. Satu wrote in reply to Brendon: >>DT is no different. But it does >get boring after a while if some band only had short songs. You don't >have much time to say things there, though some bands don't have >anything to say really. I agree here. Listen to "Wait For Sleep". I think KevMo put a hell of a lot of heart into those 2 and 1/2 minutes. Very few songwriters can express themselves that effectively. So, yes, a lot can be said in just a few minutes - but then, take a few minutes of a longer song, like ACOS: the last 3 minutes of that song are amazing. See, this is where the concept of *connection* comes in - long songs aren't hard to write, if you have a good message to dwell on and a collection of similar riffs . . . it's all a matter of making the song flow with that message or group of ideas, and having everything fit into place. Where should the song go next? And the same may apply to an entire album, or collection of albums (who here wouldn't love to hear a DT 2-CD concept album?). It all starts with one idea . . . a collection of individual riffs and progressions make up a song, a collection of individual songs make up an album, etc., and somehow it's all related. What if I&W had been just one song, like APSoG? It wouldn't work, just as if APSoG were a collection of songs. The music's still there, and it still says a lot, whether in a 2 minutes or 10. I don't prefer either over the other. That's why I feel DT are such excellent composers - they can say so much in 2 or 3 minutes, with just piano or an acoustic guitar, and then write an amazing epic like ACOS, and it all *fits* - meaning, ACOS could never say as much in a compressed, 10 minute version, and WFS might not sound as good if drawn out to 5 or 6. In any song, the band feels there's either much or little to be said, and they "end" the song accordingly. OFB *KNOW* how to get a message across musically, and that's some of the most valuable knowledge a musician or group of musicians can possess. Sorry for the long post, hoping it sounds *somewhat* intelligent, Brian P.S. Hehe . . . tomorrow I'm half-way legal!
