I guess simplicity is all that matters to some, but to me the quality of the instrumenation on there is what makes the song so appealing. The mood of the music and James' voice are what makes the song, not the 'change time signatures every 4th note.' Mike is doing some very nice accenting in there. The guys are showing how polished th on the studio version I guess I just don't understand why it's so hard to get excited about something unless it's complex. This song is about taking a groove loaded with emotion and injecting directly into my soul. I'm not sure whether you're the only one on the list, but I suspect you are in the minority. I know a lot of people who really like the song. The solo does indeed rule on the Live version :) *------------*----------------------------*--------------* | Jon Parmet | email_address_removed | 617-494-2851 | *------------*----------------------------*--------------* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Feb 1998 01:51:04 +1100 From: Chris Groves To: email_address_removed Subject: Testament Discography (again) Message-ID: Forgot to post the URL to my Testament Discography: http://members.tripod.com/~unquote/discog.html Chris Groves. email_address_removed.au ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Feb 1998 11:07:39 -0400 From: email_address_removed (Carlos Alfaro) To: Ytsejam Mailing List Subject: Tlf Message-ID: Sorry i couldnt quote the message , cuz i hit the delete button by mistake.. The rumor about Nuno being in QR was in rec.music.queensryche hours before it was posted here. I don't know where the "reliable sources close to the band" stuff came from, but all this crap started from idle speculation on that newsgroup. Message-ID: <34DF4D8D.E17@lipa.ac.uk> Hello all, Please forgive my ignorance, as I've only just begun subscribing to this mailing list, but please bear with me... I'm currently resarching and writing music as part of my final project at University, and and going to write some music based on my studies of Dream Theater - in particular the albums 'Images & Words' and 'Awake'. Part of my research looks at how the songs and music was created, what the thoughts behind each of the songs are and various view points on the songs and what they mean to different people - i.e. the fans as well as the band. I have already read the FAQ offered by the Ytsejam mailing list and made extensive visits to sites such as the one at 'www.rsabbs.com', and found them quite useful, but I need more depth and individual viewpoints. If you have the time, please respond either to the list or to me at lpaaday@lipa.ac.uk, with either your insights or any other addresses on the web you might think useful. Any positive contributions would greatly be appreciated. Many thanks, ASHLEY DAY PS. Some other serious research... Beer; A Brain Food? ====================== A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo, and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole improves by the regular culling of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can operate only as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. The result of this in-depth epidemiological study verifies and validates the casual link between all-weekend parties and working performance. It also explains why, after a few short years of leaving university and getting married, most workers cannot keep up with the performance of new graduates. Only those few that stick to the strict regimen of voracious alcoholic consumption can maintain the intellectual levels they achieved during their university years. This is a call to arms. Our country risks losing its technological edge and we should not shudder in our homes and cubicles. Get back into the bars! Quaff that pint! Suck down that longneck! Drain that glass! Your company and country need you to be at your peak, and you shouldn't deny yourself the career that you could have! Do it for your country and do it for yourself! Be all that you can be! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Feb 1998 13:44:58 -0500 From: Adam To: email_address_removed Subject: Why I hate Dream Theater... Message-ID: Has anyone else noticed this phenomenea? I goto shows around my college home of Athens, Ga all the time. I'm at a concert at least 3 nights a week. Five or six years ago I would have thought a good portion of these bands were really good. Now I have a tendency to compare all music I hear/see to Dream Theater, and they never stand up very well. And though I know that DT really IS far more talented than these bands, I always have the stinging suspicion that if I had never heard DT I would enjoy other types of music much more than I do now - for all their inferiority. On a different note, I watched MTV today for the first time in at least a year, and I found that it was too soon. :) I just can't believe this stuff is popular. I saw the Big Wreck video ("The Oaf" maybe?) and it was pretty pittiful as well. It really is a shame that these "bands" are getting airplay while the real talent plays places like the Masquerade (in Atlanta). I spose, tho', that this is the standard problem for virtuosos such as DT, etc... Quick one: I found a place in Athens, the kingdom of generic southern rock, that actually has DT on the jukebox. Sneakers, a locally owned restraunt, has CIAW and 6:00 on a compilation CD called "Great Rock Hits" (or something of that nature). Take care all... __________________________________________________ Adam Pye email_address_removed http://www.mindspring.com/~alpineone/tapelist.html ^ Above URL for bootlist w/ setlists __________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Feb 1998 13:44:47 -0500 (EST) From: Pat Daugherty To: Dream Theater Mailing List Subject: Sebastian Bach (NDTC) Message-ID: Speaking og Bach, I read this: Joey Ramone and ex-Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach will both star in Robert D. No, it's the little CD with "Tears" (Rush) on it, given to owners of the first few hundred "Awake" CD's (I forget exactly how many) who mailed in the card that came with the CD.
