Now, for the FAQ: If you haven't submitted an essay explaining why you should be the new FAQ maintainer, and you still want to, the deadline is about an hour and a half away (8:00 pm EST). It's a totally arbitrary deadline, but hey, it's my game, so I make the rules. :) Opinion question: If my college's radio station were to start bitcasting (RealAudio or whatever), let me know if you would be interested in listening. I sure as hell don't follow (or give a shit, for that matter) what's going on in your personal life. All I know about you is what I happen to see you post here on the jam, and even then, I don't read all of your messages. It's hard to keep up with 10 jams a day. > mainly directed at my own foibles, which I can take because I'm used to I was making parody of the fact you come on here all the time and complain about all the personal problems in your life. I exaggerated and listed some of the other "personal problems" people typically have. That is the ONLY thing I was trying to make fun of. I was NOT trying to make fun of any specific personal problems (we all have them) in your life. I was making fun of the fact you post about all of them here. Period. So please don't read anything more into my comments. I would be fucking pissed if I was going through the same thing as you and Melissa and someone made a comment like that intentionally. However, in this case it was sure as hell not intentional. I may be an asshole, but I'm ONLY an asshole. That someone would even think I'd go as low as that bothers me. In the future, why don't you e-mail someone privately before flying off your handle? What on EARTH makes you think I'd have a grudge against you Mike? Not everyone here is out to get you. In the original Bahr Wars, I brought up a few things I didn't like about your Prism Records operation, but otherwise I've never had any arguments with you that I can remember, and so why you think after being mostly a lurker the past couple of years that I'd intentionally try and demean you is beyond me. The bottom line, is you totally misinterpreted my message. It's tempting to just tell you to fuck off instead of wasting my time (and I sure as hell could use more of it these days) explaining a simple attempt to amuse people. I risk slinging shit back at you and starting a falme war, but I want to defend my reputation. I do promise that I will not continue this thread beyond this one message though. > That was NOT moral, and it was NOT funny." I have to hope to assume that > you're just some punk kid, because every adult knows that you just don't > toy with other people's married lives in public. It simply isn't done. Well, I'm not some "punk kid". I'm not a lot younger than you, and I'm a university student and am paying my own way towards a meaningful degree. And when I'm not studying (such as is the case this winter term), I'm supporting myself with a REAL full-time job. And prior to that I had put myself in a good position, having started a successful little (legal...) small business when I was in high school. I'm not as well off as some people I know, but I am independent, I am happy, I have a wonderful girlfriend, and I am in FULL control of my present and my future. I may have it easier than a lot of people (hell, I've never had to work really hard), probably including yourself, but it's THROUGH MY OWN DOING and that's not something you can criticize me for. > And finally, given as how I sell Lie singles for whatever the market > demand will bear, I fail to see how you can twist such a thing into an > insult directed at me. Everyone and their dog wants a Lie single. Listen, I didn't know you were selling Lie singles. I said that because I *DO* have another Lie single left. The last time I made a sarcastic comment like that, I actually found out that it's rarer than I thought, and ended up selling my extra copy (AT market value). > Finally, about me saving the DT Lie single to my hard drive. I want to > make this clear here and now. I have not, do not, and will not ever, > pirate any of DT's material. I have an original Lie single in mint Jesus christ... now you're WAY off your rocker. I can't even begin to guess why you think that was directed at you. I said *I* have them saved on my HD, and that's EXACTLY what I meant. Actually, I only have a .MP3 of TLF (remember, it's not a digital copy, so it's legal!) The radio edit of Lie I can live without (why would I want to listen to that version anyway?), and the other 2 tracks are on Awake and LATM anyway. So I may sell that copy one of these days as well. > when you're agreeing not to start shit on the Jam. Don't you think so? Well, my band has mp3s up at our web page, http://premium.caribe.net/~emc/fuerza/ - but it's not really very prog, so i dunno if it'll be you guys' kinda music. I haven't been able to come up with a label - maybe one of you guys can help me? We just recorded a demo of one song, that'll be online in a few days. Maybe I'll put it up tonite. Honest! I don't know about the tribute CD. I just don't see it working unless everyone gets together to record it at like one studio. It failed several times. Let it die. :) But i like the idea of a Jammers CD. For one thing, it will give us NEW music to listen to. For another thing, the bands will probably find the recording easier because it's their own material. Third, it will expose us to a wide variety of music (hey, we ARE all open-minded, right? :) for example, I'm sure there's at least ONE DT fan on this list who has a country band :) And i know there have to be a few who rap. Come on, there's like 1500 or something by now - at its low it was around 700... I think it'd be cool to hear the wide variety of music that Jammers can put out. I offer to contribute - my band even has a demo recorded (recently - we recorded it last week). tomorrow i do the guitar overdubs. And stuff. Seems to me that TYA, Fragile, and Close all sound pretty similar...then Bruford leaves and all hell breaks loose. TFTO, Relayer, and GFTO sound nothing like each other...but I think GFTO is still good prog rock, and to say that with GFTO the band was on its road towards the Rabin era seems a bit odd...I dunno, I can't see a continuum between GFTO and 90210...like I said, I'm a bit more postmodern than Jon is so maybe it's just me =) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 02:58:05 -0500 From: Brian Larkin To: email_address_removed Subject: assorted nonsense Message-ID: Hey, jamrz.
