(this goes for everyone, >especially the prog-oriented folks.) while your at it, pick up "close >to the edge," "fragile," and "the yes album." Yes, yes. The first CD you should buy from the most positive band in the world is Yessongs. This is a live album that was originally a triple LP. The line up is the ideal. Both Alan White and Bill Brufford get to play here-impeccably of course (not simultaneously though) and Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and Chris Squire kick royal ass, whilst Jon Anderson is simply perfect. I began listening to this album when I was 7 (now I'm 31) and all I can say is that TO ME, this is the best live recording EVER. Especially from "Carpe Diem" on? How about that solo in AD? Or the very emotionally uplifting instrumental section in TTT? I can find emotion in almost every DT song on every album, minus MOST of WDADU and FII. That's why I listen to DT so much, no other band has emotionally impacted or enhanced my life as much as they have. And then, they also have amazing technique, sick riffs, great atmosphere, etc. >I missed two exits on the freeway yesterday because I got so caught up with >LiTS, specifically the middle solo section. Whereas since they've already written MII and the other 5 songs, they could put out a good 60-minute-long batch of stuff in one shot sooner, then follow up with another 75er later. Well . . . Yeah, and at 60 minutes, it could easily be called an album... ^_^ To me, the only difference between ACOS being an EP and an album was the live section. If the same amount of time had been filled with studio recordings, it could have easily passed for or become an album. So, perhaps this is what Mike is talking about when he says, "the next album." If there's 60 minutes worth of unheard studio material, then why not make it an album? Both WDADU and I&W were around 60 minutes, IIRC. > >Well . . . >There was a petition for ACOS, right? >Discuss if you will. > >cArPe DiEm, >bRiAn > --Matt --------------------------------------------------------------------- "..." --James LaBrie, "Hell's Kitchen" --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jan 1998 18:03:49 -0800 From: email_address_removed (Dr. Mosh) To: email_address_removed Subject: DEMOS from Jap FII and HY single Message-ID: If you're having a hard time finding the Japanese FII or Hollow Years single and wanna hear it in mp3... go to my URL below... in the Ear Candy section. -The Doc -- #$%*#$*@ E-MAIL: email_address_removed #$%#$#$% _+_+_+_+ Unix, Internet, Intranet Engineering _+_+_+_+ [][][][] Dr. Mosh's Progressive Feast [][][][] #$@#$#@# http://progmetal.gmsnet.com @#$@##@$ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jan 1998 21:26:29 EST From: Sunnyde25 To: email_address_removed Subject: Hells Kitchen Bass Tab Message-ID: If anyone is interested in the bass tab for Hell's Kitchen, I just finished it and put it up at http://members.aol.com/Sunnyde25/music.htm Mark email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jan 1998 21:28:00 -0800 From: Mark Johnson To: email_address_removed Subject: Where did she go? There's a demo of it floating around somewhere. I'm surprised no one's mentioned it here. Anyway, from what I've heard about it, it's 23 minutes long and it's really sick (musically speaking :)!! The guy (a member of a local Christian prog band) told me that the demo he heard was an instrumental version of the song, and it had incredibly hard instrumental stuff, an all piano section, an all acoustic guitar section, and then it ended similarly to ACOS, and that some of the riffs and lines from the original Met pt. 1 were regurgitated in the new song. I realize all this is rumor, but I figgered you guys 'n gals would like to know :) Oh, and don't e-mail me asking for a copy, I haven't heard it and I'm in the process of trying to get it myself! Yep. Analog sounds better. Digital is more convenient. (Personally, I would never argue with the human desire for convenience, if there was no harm in it.) (BTW I heard some years ago that they (who's they? they are) were developing a laser reader for records. No needle touching the things and scratching them to kingdom come. Presumably, analog sound. I know this info is in the FAQ, but I was watching the coming attractions on my rental of The Player(Robert Altman Film, must-see). I wasn't really paying attention while the trailer for some love affair movie came on, until I heard someone say, "There are things we cannot control". I rewound a few times to be sure, and sure enough, it was the sample from Lie. (I think it was Lie. It's somewhere on Awake. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. Stop making me squirm!) Anyway, the movie was Damage, and like I said, this info is in the faq but it's cool anyway. I wasn't about to rent it just for that. If it hadn't been for The Player, I never would have heard it. josh email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 00:17:57 -0500 (EST) From: Steve Zebrowski To: email_address_removed Subject: Echolyn stuff again... Just to play devil's advocate, what about analog to digital? What if I made a CD-R copy of a cassette of "Suffocating..."? what then? Kidding. But seriously... Why "quite another?" It's JUST a copy. If I have a CD of "Suffocating the Bloom" and my friend ONLY has minidisc--walkman, home, car, EVERYTHING, and I bring my CD player and CD to his house and copy it onto minidisc have I done any worse than make a cassette copy? And if so, HOW? If you could EXPLAIN the difference I think many of us would be a little less confused.
