Message-ID: and this is one of those times. Mike & Chris - I don't believe that we are having this argument again. Guys, get a room and take care of each other once and for all so that this crap can stop. Personally, I think Mike deserves every penny he earns from his "venture". He puts out a quality product. The band KNOWS what he does. They could very easily stop him if they really wanted to. If the band leaves him alone, why should we care? If you still don't like it, don't buy his CDs. "Reefer" James - I could care less if he smokes Pot or banana peels. Just as long as it doesn't ruin his voice. EOS. Kevin's "Return" - It was worth a couple of chuckles, but lets move on with the fact that KM isn't coming back. Now for some more useful information. This weekend I went shopping at the Tyson's Tower Record. It is turning into my favorite record store in the area because I can find stuff there I can't find elsewhere. They also have a sale last weekend where all the CDs were $3 off regular price. So, what did I pick up? Paradise Lost - One Second After finding "Draconian Times" at a used CD place and having it become one of my big steals, I was very suprised with this one. They use a LOT of programmed keyboards on this one. At times, it sounds like a heavy, gothic Depeche Mode. Very strange. Initally, I didn't like it, but it has grown on me the past couple of days. The title track is a great song. I just wish they cooled it a little with the programmed keyboards. I like bands to PLAY their music. Ozric Tentacles - Arborescence Ozric Tentacles - Jurassic Shift The first I bought on my first run and then I went back and bought the second. I've heard them mentioned here a few times and checked them out. It is all instrumental stuff and very trippy shit. I like it! :^) I'm going to let those sit in my car stereo for a while and let them soak in. Any other comments about these albums or any of the others? Any recommendations? Rudess Morgenstein Project I think I need more time with this one. An album with just a drummer and keyboardist just doesn't excite me too much. I think it needs to be balanced out with another instrument. I'll wait until Liquid Tension comes out. Meanwhile, I'll give this CD more time. Other recommendations: Wyzards - The Final Catastrophe I picked this one up at PowerMad. It sounds like a combination of 70s Rush and Kiss and works very well. The Laser's Edge is probably the best place to get it, since they make the CD. Ayreon - The Final Experement I've mentioned this one before. Great rock opera using several lead singers and many different styles. A must have. Soundscape - Discovery Played at PowerMad. I don't always like the lead singer on this, but he is a talented keyboardist. He has surounded himself with some talented people. Lots of promise on this album. Some people were talking about release dates. On the board at Tower, they has Porcupine Tree listed for a new album on the 13th. They also have Cairo listed on the 20th. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Birzer "One likes to believe in the freedom of music "The Longshot" but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity." email_address_removed Rush - The Spirit Of Radio -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 00:14:44 -0800 From: "Trevor W. As some people mentioned our band Superior lately I'd like to comment some of the stuff that was written. At first, I'd like to say that we sure DON'T want to make songs more complicated just for the need to be progressive or something like that. On 'Behind' we have A LOT of songs that are not progressive (in the meaning of being complicated) at all. What makes our songs like they are is the change between different moods and the change of different music styles (also called dynamics, if this tells you something). We love it to change from calm and soft parts to aggressive parts. That's it. If we'd like to do complicated stuff we'd sound like Watchtower or Lemur Voice or what ever. But that's not our aim. We want to have REAL songs, not just a chain of parts that were put together because we want the listener to feel the emotion that was the intention to write the song. And you IMHO you can't bring emotions with a song if you just fiddle around and play solos on and on... I know that not everybody CAN like our music, because of course and thank god we all have a different taste. I just wanted to explain our songwriting because somebody said that we sound as if we just wanted to be progressive and try everything to achieve that. Well, that's bullshit. :) Just my .002 Bye Bernd -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Bernd Basmer | | _I_ | Guitar - Superior | | <*,*> | | | [( )] | For Info about Superior have a look at: | | -"-"- | http://gaia.owl.de/~fine/superior.html | | Punk Owl | | | | http://www.hlti.fi/~opk/bernd/ | | | Email: email_address_removed.de | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 03:11:59 -0800 From: email_address_removed (Dr. Mosh) To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Sometimes the Jam gets stupid... As I'm listening to track 8 (i think), I start hearing these repetitive "static" noises. ]From that point on on the disc, they get worse and worse. I've only heard noises like this once before from my car CD player. It was when I made a disc myself, and I violated the conventional limits for loudness (exceeded 0 dB). Has anybody else heard this phenomena? It only seems to happen on certain CD players.
