Just decided this last night, so I hope this gets out before the show tonight. There'll be a little pre-show gathering at the First and Last Tarvern on Maple St. in Hartford, starting about 5:30-6:00ish. The place is real simple to get to: when you would normally take a right off of Brown St onto Maple St (coming from the Airport Rd. Exit) to get to the Webster, you take a left instead. The First & Last is almost immediately on your right. It's got good pizza, good beer, and is a little expensive, but oh well, it was a choice between the F&L, a church, a post office, or a gay bar. Not much in that area of Hartford. Anyway, there's about 12 confirmed Ytsejammers and their respective parties going to the place, so we should be easy to see. We'll probably walk from the F&L to the Webster (it isn't that bad) since parking at the Webster sucks. Anyway, see ya tonight, maybe. I'd have to that usually I listen to the CD's the whole way through. If I skip I skip to songs that put me in a certain mood. (Trial of Tears, Space Dye Vest and Lines in the Sand all put me in certain good/zen type moods) There aren't any songs that I particularly don't like, except after a while the singer from WDADU starts to grind on my nerves a little, I much prefer LaBrie's voice. I am from Philadephia and I drove up to New York for the day to see Dream Theater at The Irving Plaza. The show were great especially the New York show cause I saw Nightmare Cinema( thats where everyone changes instruments except james and they played perfect strangers) veru cool however in philly in the middle of metropolis they played some song where derek started singing. well now the cool part. In new york while waiting outside i met Mike Portnoy what a cool guy then saw John Petrucci walking outside funny enough he didnt know how to enter the Irving plaza i gave him directions. John however wasnt that cool to me but i understand he was in a rush he was late for sound check. In philadelphia my home town it was different. I arrived early and waited behind the TLA. I knocked onn the back door and the roadie opened and remembered me from new york trying to ask him get stuff signed so this time he got my stuff i gave him signed. then derek came out and i got my pictureed taken with him. then i saw mike portnoy twice later before the show. i also saw his dog BONGO and daughter Melonie sorry if its spelt wrong. the show was great then after wards i waited around and met all of them except john myung who rushed into the bus. during the show me and mike were linked cause i was playing air drums and he saw so he tried to give me a stick but my frined got it so after the show we asked who he was tring to give it to and he said me MIKE PORTNOY MEANT TO GIVE ME A DRUM STICK OF HIS. WOW MY LIFE IS COMPLETE, I met John petrucci agfain and this time he was real nice to me i have pictures with me and all of them excpet john myung but i have a back shot of him. I talked to mike awhile he is still cool as ever. i also have all my cds covers signed by mike portnoy and others. well that enough for now greg ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 1998 13:00:42 -0500 From: Jeff Forte To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: upcoming shows Message-ID: Hey guys; >hey gang! long time, no read. I think the stuff sounds fucking GREAT, having heard it more than a few times, and I was wondering if anyone knew where these riffs are from. My guesses are that either they were only performed once and captured for the vid (some of it sounds improv), they're parts of Metropolis II, or parts of older unreleased material (perhaps from Subconscious??) . . . If anyone knows anything about this, please e-mail me. -oO(bRiAn)Oo- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 1998 12:15:12 -0700 From: "Vincent G. My guesses are that Hey man, it's just shots of the band at soundchecks, warming up. Probably doing improv stuff over simple chord progressions to get the levels checked and to get themselves into playing that night. That's why Petrucci is in a sweat outfit and that's also why Derek is wearing a beanie :) Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palms/6933 | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 1998 21:24:22 +0100 From: Ole Ernstsen To: email_address_removed Subject: skip it Message-ID: Poul w. cashman if you dont want to read some post you just can skip it. HEY... I was only kidding !!!... sorta) Seriously, I love all DT songs. Sure, I like some of them better than others... but never to the point that I skip songs or say I hate them. I for one think both "You Not Me" and "Cover My Eyes" are brilliant for the kind of songs they are (read: less complex and "wanky" than most other DT songs). Two of the (many) reasons why I love DT are their diversity and ability to grow from album to album... I guess some people just have to face up to the fact that songs like YNM, Anna Lee, Innocence Faded, etc. are part of what DT stands for ! They are certainly not "less DT" than songs like for example Metropolis, ACoS, Voices, Scarred, LiTS, etc... smile ;-) Mark email_address_removed I feel shipwrecked, _ _____ ___ _ _ _ _ I might as well be shipwrecked : |:__ __| __\: |_: |: \_ | I'm helpless and alone, drifting out to sea : | : |: (___: _ | :_ / (Genesis - Shipwrecked) :_| :_| :___/:_| :_| :__/ _________________________________________________________________________ Dream Theater online "Under A Cyber Moon" http://www.prognosis.com/dream/ Itchy's http://www.prognosis.com/itchy/ H Website http://www.a-vip.com/H ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 1998 23:57:32 +0200 From: O-P Komonen To: email_address_removed Subject: I want the CDs you don't... What an AMAZING show for starters..This was my 7th time seeing DT live and it was definately one of the best!!! I'm sure I won't even be able to remember all the great moments of this DT show... For openers, BIG WRECK actually started to sound good to me.. Mabey that's because I've now heard their stuff before and could get into the groove or something.. Anyways, NOT-Cornell joked with the audience, and of course dealth with the resounding choruses of "you suck you suck". After the demo songs and Rooster..DT opened up with (setlist in best order i could remember) Lines In the Sand - Very cool, but IMHO they should tape the Pinnick vocal parts and play them during the song. I know this sounds cheesy, but the petrucci/portnoy backup vocals on those parts is no where near strong enough for the song... However, all of the backing vocals for the rest of the songs were SOLID!!! Burning My Soul Voices The Silent Man (Electric) Wow - was this a nice suprise...!!! Under a Glass Moon - You Not Me - nice suprise..sounded great live! Hollow Years Just Let Me Breathe Puppies on Acid Lie ACOS - Inevitable Winter (i think) Pull Me Under Ytsejam - Seatbelts version Peruvian Skies New Millenium Metropolis --Some guy was holding up a home-made cardboard sign that read "LIGHT FUSE AND GET AWAY"... I could have SWORN that Portnoy (sporting a new 'bob' haircut - real cute) played the first opening drum measures to 'Light Fuse...' right before petrucci's solo before Hollow Years...Was I going crazy people or what??? During JLMB, KJLB's microphone stopped working and he had to use Petrucci's mike...he got ALL PISSED OFF at the sound guy who apparently was ignoring his requests to fix his mike.. and at one point he slammed down the megaphone and went after the soundman....this just happened to be at the point where he was supposed to chime in with "strike up your best angst ridden pose"...but MR. MIKE "THE ANIMAL" PORTNOY SANG IT! He actually sounded GREAT on that part...I was impressed to say the least!!! Low Point of the night: Some girl got stomped in the head or something and had to be carried out of the theatre right after Burning my Soul started... 2nd Low Point of the night: the t-shirts... The shorts for this tour are lame IMHO... I kind of liked the short sleeve blue one, but it had the "penis" picture on the back from the FII CD Cover... that's not something I want to wear on my back thank-you-very-much!! Anyways, I'll shut up for now...I'm sure tons of other jammers will want to post their thoughts on this awesomme (as always) DT show... --Tim email_address_removed PS: Thanks goes out to Sam Kim from this list..he hooked me up with an extra ticket.!
