I was expecting some totally alternative/pop results, but I was blown away by what's in here. Dimebag Darrell of Pantera won for Best Rock Guitarist, G3 won for Best Live Album, and DREAM THEATER WON FOR BEST BAND OF 1997!! Along with that, Burning My Soul is transcribed (including some of the synth stuff and the keyboard solo), and Petrucci runs through his ten favorite CDs, including Rush, Yes, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, and the Dixie Dregs. Probably a few more too, but I'm too lazy to go and look :) Anyway, go out and get this issue if you haven't already, it's a GOOOOOD issue for metal, and DT in particular :) Laterz, IIIII IIII IIIIIIIIIIIII IIII IIII I IIII II I I I I I II I I I I I I I I I II I II I I II I I I I I I I II IIII I I I IIII IIII IIIIIIIIIIIII IIII IIIII __ _ __ ___ _ ___ _ _ | \| >|_ /\ |\/| | |_||_ /\ | |_ | > |_/| \|_/ \| | | | ||_/ \ | |_ | | James LaBrie: "Radio can go and suck my ass." Well, actually, there's a Iron Maiden tribute (it's an import from Japan -- don't remeber its name, but I found it on CD Connection, ). What I was talking about in my earlier post to Voices/Ytsejam was about a new tribute, done exclusively by Death/Black metal bands. Later, I found that there will be actually not one, but TWO new Death/Black tributes to Iron Maiden. The first was the one which I announced the the mailing lists, "Call to Irons", which includes one of my preferred bands, Opeth and will be released by Dwell Records. Opeth will be covering "Remember Tomorrow". This will feature also Solitude Aeturnus, if memory serves. The other is called "A Tribute to the Best Band in the Whole Goddamn World" (what a name!), which includes Dark Tranquillity and Therion (if you like classical music and opera and heavy metal, you should really take the time and listen to Therion's "Theli"). This second album will be released by Toy Factory Records. These two tributes will be available in early-98. > Thanks email_address_removed Hope this helps, Roger... -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rogerio Brito - email_address_removed.br - http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito Undergraduate Computer Science Student - "Windows? I've known Russ for about 5 year from his other job (no, the band is not his ONLY job) & have listened to his voice grow & expand to the point where I like HIM better than James LB on some tracks on Awake& FII (I've given him the disc & asked, "Here, how would YOU do this??") Now for info you might like to know (or dislike, as the some cases may be)... their new disc isn't expected to be released till maybe late Spring/Early Summer. The band is having problems w/ the studio & is obviously effecting the master recordings. I'm STILL trying to get the band to play some dates (1 date!!) locally, but they say they want to wait till its released.. I should have a listen of ~some~ new material possibly by late Jan, I'll let ya know what this individual guy thinks of it. No, I haven't heard any track titles, names, or riffs. Lyrics I have tho, was over the summer, so they're kinda jumbled in my head. Guees thats all for my 1st real post. >>Make no mistake, I enjoyed a few tracks ("The Accolade" and "Pharaoh"<< Glad ya liked "The Accolade", I ~helped~ write it *smile*. I've already got it, so it's still there. If someone wants, I could pick it up for them. Also, I'm more casually into Marillion. I like them, but am not as avid a fan as I am of, say, DT. I did find Misplaced Childhood for a rather low price recently but didn't get it because I'm not sure how much I'll dig it. How does it compare to Season's End (my only current Marillion CD)? Dale R. Message-ID: Hey All, Is there a way to contact whoever is in charge of the fan club. Back in October (probably Oct. 27th or so) I sent in a check to the DT fan club at a P.O. Box in New York. When I didn't recieve anything I didn't think much of it. I thought I would get my first fanzine with the Christmas CD. Anyway I have recently come to realize that my check was never cashed. Is that New York address valid? Are you behind in handling new members? Perhaps my check got lost in the mail? If I join now will I still get the CD? If anyone can anwer these questions or give me information on how to contact someone who can, please email privately and let me know. Thanks a lot. Right now, I am trying to think of ways to improve UACM, and things I could add that people might be interested in. Of course, suggestions are more than welcome (please mail them to me at email_address_removed)... A new section I've just added is called "New Dream Theater Sites". If you recently started a *new* Dream Theater website, and would like to get some exposure, check out this page for more information. :-) If you are a regular on #Ytsejam, you might want me to add you to the "#Ytsejam IRC page" (that is, if you're not there already). If you've seen the page, you will know it takes ages to load because of all the pictures and descriptions... I am probably going to split the page up into three sections (with picture, without picture and Ytse-couples), with a maximum of ten people per page. Again, suggestions are more than welcome :-) Ps.: Also take a look at "Itchy's Dream Theater Homepage", or it will feel left out ! ;-) URL: http://www.prognosis.com/itchy/indexdt.htm Mark email_address_removed I feel shipwrecked, _ _____ ___ _ _ _ _ I might as well be shipwrecked : |:__ __| __\: |_: |: \_ | I'm helpless and alone, drifting out to sea : | : |: (___: _ | :_ / (Genesis - Shipwrecked) :_| :_| :___/:_| :_| :__/ _________________________________________________________________________ Dream Theater online "Under A Cyber Moon" http://www.prognosis.com/dream/ Itchy's http://www.prognosis.com/itchy/ H Website http://www.a-vip.com/H ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 1997 12:23:58 -0400 From: Nick Bogovich To: email_address_removed Subject: ATTN: CHICAGO JAMMERS!!! Message-ID: Okay, as most of you Chicago Jammers know, WRCX is doing a "You Pay, We Play" fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago where you pay $25 for any song under six minutes and $50 for any song over 6 minutes. Here's where we can get DT massive air time!!! Tomorrow, I'm planning on ordering Lines in the Sand for $50 to be played in the afternoon. If some other jammers out there can order songs from the new album, such as NM, JLMB, PS, ToT, etc., it would help OFB get the airtime they deserve. And, if we do this tomorrow, then people will get massive exposure to DT. So, if you have some money to spare (I know it's tough, but it's for 2 good causes [charity and DT]), give WRCX a call at the special hotline number: (312)397-1035 and order your song! (i'm way the fuck behind with this list.) since i'm going to be at the hartford show on jan 2nd and the long island show on jan 4th, i thought i'd remind everyone of the most effective ways of meeting other jammers at a show. if you want to meet other jammers, do this. if you don't, then don't do any of this, and we'll all think you're just regular fans. 1) wear ytse. the most tell-tale sign that you're a jammer. 2) walk around screaming something like "BAFU!!!" this works. :) 3) ytsejammer groups snowball. when you find a pack of jammers, stick with them. you'll attract more. 4) drink lots of beer. (this won't necessarily attract other jammers, but it sure is fun.) 5) after the show, go to right in front of the stage and attempt to meet other jammers. that's where i'll be. i'm hoping to meet some new faces at this show, so don't let me down, ok? :) long island and hartford jammers: i don't have much opportunity to read mail while i'm at home, but i would appreciate it if someone would let me know if any cool pre- or post-show stuff is going on. the number at my parents' house is (516) 536-8974.
