As a matter of fact, when I give people a listen to DT and they look at the cd cover, they often say, "This is just another 80's, high-pitched singer, guitar wanking, hair metal disc." Better cut DT out of your collection as well... ;-) But seriously, if one of the major reasons you love I&W and Awake is Kev Moore, then APSoG is worth a try. Don't try any of the other Fates cds unless you like this one. Almost everyone who was an "old time" Fates fan WAS an 80's, long hair, metal head. It's just that Fates was higher quality then so much of the mass produced metal of the 80's. Almost as good as Queensryche used to be. So many of us who picked up APSoG already liked the 80's (Old Fates) metal sound. APSoG is just more refined with the addition of KM on keys. my 2 cents, BH ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Dec 1997 20:31:43 -0500 From: "Carlo D'Angelo" To: email_address_removed Subject: *** SAVATAGE (TSO) on Rosie O'Donnell 12/9 *** Message-ID: Hey jammers, I don't know if anyone saw this yet but its GREAT news!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just yesterday I dug out and watched the old "Rusted Pieces" video from Megadeth. Included all videos through "Rust in Piece" and lots of dialog. Of course, Dave was the original lead guitar player in Metallica, and he was sent packing because of his heavy drinking and rowdy behavior. I think it was probably more Lars and James making that choice. Anyway, Dave said that a song he wrote was when he was freaked out over Cliff's death. May have been "In My Darkest Hour". Not sure. I don't think their was any ill will at that point. He seemed genuinely devastated by Cliff's death. Nothing about a curse there... I love fast & flashy guitar solos, but FW proved that they don= 't need them there're a whole 2 of em in 53 minutes. Then some guy comes on saying that he can't believe anyone could possibly like the production on FII because it's so bad. Get a fooking clue. Yes, it's finals time. If you read the >MegaDeth FAQ you'll see that "In My Darkest Hour" is about a curse >or satanic incantation that Dave did and led to drastic, terrible >consequences. Of course, you can't exactly have faith in the lyrics >that Dave Mustaine writes--anything about Satanism could easily be >done for shock value ala Marilyn Manson. I just read it, and it sounded >kinda spooky to me. Ok, this is a buncha questions. Yes, Mustaine was part of one of the first line ups of metallica. There were some other guys (Kerry King, Ron McGovney, some other people who suck) and then Dave joined up. He wasn't nearly as good at guitar as he is now (I think being fired caused him to practice more). If you look at the writing credits of Kill em all and Ride the Lightening, Dave has many co-credits for all of the good songs (ie the ones that don't make your ears bleed because they are so much crap). According to Metallica, he was fired due to his meandering solo's (you can see this on Metallica's Cliff em all video) and his drinking problem. Mustaine said that he was fired because there wsa too much personality in the band and he and James were fightening for the stage spotlight (this too can be seen on Cliff em all). i have a feeling that the truth is somewhere in between. Your information on "In my darkest hour" is only partially correct and is combining two Megadeth songs into a bloated and very wrong description. Dave used to believe in Wicca (or a similar variation of magic) He said that his sister was a "white witch" (cough, cough, bullshit). He used to do sex hexes to get girls into bed with him, yadda yadda yadda, While Megadeth was never satanic (they are actually quite Christian and it comes out quite a bit in Youthanasia). Anyway, he said that he wrote "in my darkest hour" the day that he found out that cliff Burton had died. He and Cliff were friends (the Metallica/Megadeth fued had been put behind them) and Dave was sorry to see cliff go. Cliff didn't have the power to fire Mustaine, only Lars and James (the control freaks in the band) would have. I think that I read that it was James that did the firing. On Countdown to Extinction, Dave found religion in a big way, and was explaining in an interview that although he was still Christian be believed very strongly that Wiccan magick works and is very dangerous. He said that he hexed a guy for a reason that I can't quite remember and later the guy got into an accident and had his hand permantly mangled. None of the songs that Megadeth has written have been satanic (Go to Hell was written for the scenes in Hell for Bill and Ted's bogus journey so it doesn't count). Many of the songs that people confuse for Satanism (looking down the cross, five-magics) are written about magick and sorcery as pagan beliefs rather thatn satanic. Looking down the cross seems to be an admition that he (Musataine) wouldn't be strong enough to do what Christ did and die on the cross. I hope that clesared some things up. And speaking as a bassist, Burton was overrated. He plays the bass like a guitar so I have the feeling that he either started on guitar or took lessons form a guitarist. He was decent for metal in his time, but I feel that Newstead is better (it's just that James and Lars won't let him play). What do you mean by Lorenna Mckinnet being a great musical researcher? I don't get it. Is the rest of "Book of Secrets" as good as the Mummers dance? If it is I'm getting it tomorrow. Nirvana and Blind Melon could only be 'sellouts' if they played Progressive Metal. :) They wouldn't be playing true to themselves or who they are. Thats what I think a sellout is. No, Dave Mustaine was the musical wizard to begin with. In My Darkest Hour has nothing to do with a hex. It's just his feelings about Burton's death, who was a friend. Hetfield more or less kicked Dave out of the band, and then stole all of Mustaine's songs to put on the first Metallica album. Burton wasn't even in the band when Dave was kicked out, it was still Ron McGovney, original bassist and founding member. -Brian ******************************************************************************** "So understand, the wasted time always searching for those wasted years.
