Then again, you wouldn't find much more on I&W or FII either, but I prefer the sounds used on those to Awake. And they do have some proggy elements. In several songs they switch from a 4 to a 3 meter from verse to chorus, and one song (Stench) has a verse in 11. So, they do have some leanings in Our Favorite Direction (OFD?) Booty-kicking band. Saw them open for Type O. I'm in lust with the drummer. ;) __ /\ __ Chris Oates: email_address_removed __\/__\/__ +---- \_||_/ | "Still awake, I continue to move along, cultivating my | /__||__\ | own nonsense" -Dream Theater, "Trial of Tears" | // \ | \\ ----+ \| http://www2.ucsc.edu/people/aspect/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Nov 1997 10:34:40 +1000 From: email_address_removed.au To: email_address_removed Subject: UNCLASSIFIED:-Female Prog Singer Message-ID: Well one band I haven't seen mentioned, who **ARE** a genuine progressive rock band and have a female singer are Strangers On A Train. They are yet another one of keyboardist Clive Nolan's many bands (other's are Pendragon, Arena and Shadowland) They have a sound of a mixture of Clive's other bands (of course :) ), they released two albums that are now long been unavailable due to their record label going bust. Clive has managed to get the rights to these albums back and will be re-released next year along with a yet to be recorded third Strangers album. Another one to look out for, though not progressive is The Wishing Tree, Marillion guitarist's Steve Rothery side project, with Enchant's Paul Craddick on drums. Vocalist Hannah Stobort (something like that). Lots of acoustic songs and a few more rockin' ones, make a very enjoyable album. graham ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Nov 1997 15:37:40 -0800 (PST) From: Adam Barnhart To: email_address_removed Subject: Zem and Zem Message-ID: I should work at home more often... > From: "Christopher R. Upon further investigation into this topic, it turns out that although Live And Alive (vol. 1 & 2) are a copy of Consciously Unreal (like I claim), there are two extra tracks on vol.2 not on Consciously Unreal. People should try Skunk Anansi. You *could* buy the album but you could *also* just buy the Strange Days soundtrack, with their flagship song on it. It's pretty good - the song and the soundtrack. Not the movie. :( The trailor for the movie was really cool, though. Like that never happens. I tell you, it's that same guy doing the voiceover for all those trailers. It doesn't matter how crappy the movie is, because gravely-voiced VO man will make it sound really cool! "Joe Schmoe...was an ordinary man... until one day at the supermarket, his whole life will change...Now, he's on the run...from the pissed off checkout girl who wants to kill him...and he has no idea why..." and so on. woah. Skunk Anansi is the only non-rap band I know of with a lead, black, female. And oh yes, that sountrack has a great picture of juliette lewis grinding a microphone stand in the liner notes. Just so you know, one of the Jam's own, Mike Bahr, sells a CD replica of a Queensryche boot with the MTV Unplugged show on it. It's called "Silent Lucidity". Of course, it's only the 5 tracks MTV aired (I Will Remember, The Killing Words, Della Brown, Silent Lucidity, and The Lady Work Black). QR also played Scarborough Fair, Anybody Listening, and Rockin' In the Free World, but MTV never played those tracks! (Those bastards!) Anyway, in case you didn't know, Mike's URL is http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik/home.html. I think he wants something like $20 for a copy. > YES'S!
