Well, you're used to not seeing the pictures and all, so that's not new for you. In a normal situation, it would make no sense for you to join the fan club. But here, you get a cd for your money, which may make it worth the cash for you. We won't learn any new information in the fanzine (I'd bet, anyways), but you know, I'd be more than happy to type up articles for you and send them to you in e-mail. Heck, Neil may even e-mail you the articles himself! Just ask him! If the cd's gonna be 73+ minutes long, you'd pay the $15, me thinks. Good luck, bro! Also in Erotomania, notice how the main theme isn't 5/4 all the way through. . it's 9/8 on the fourth measure. .. very subtle indeed! I love 7/8, but my heart lies with 5, I think. I tend to write in 5 a lot. . . BTW. . gotta plug Kansas yet again, because they do some major crazy time sig changes, but make it sound very natural ('song for america' and 'the spider' are good examples). Listen to 'Hopelessly Human' and find the time. . but then listen to the song itself, and find the feel. Incredible. _That's_ how I want to compose. . . I heard their single on 94.1 WYSPs (philly) rockers once. .. and it kicked my ass. Which was impressive, considering I was sitting down. But that's another story. I went looking for their album the other day, but it was out so I got some other stuff (more on that later)... Considering all my previous exposure to female metal had been limited to Vixen (they were girls, weren't they? It was hard to tell back then), I was impressed with how hard a "girly band" could rock.. Which brings me to my next point: If you're looking for some kick ass all female music... you just gotta get The Bangles! I'm sorry if it makes me look like a pud, but I don't care! I LOVE IT!! Brings those 80s days back in full (and very painful) force. When Drain STH was out, there was only one thing that could compliment my other selections (which included DT, Obituary, Sepultura), and that was The Bangles' "A different light." For anyone who's sick like me, this is the only solution. > with JUST female singers. (gotta look for people to idolize other than > John Petrucci ;) you don't really need anybody else. I specifically clarified I wasn't making a generalisation in my original post. It's just that that's the way it seems to be over here on the bright 'n' sunny Gold Coast, Aus. Basically most of my male friends have liked DT after I have showed it to them, several of them have liked them so much they have gone out and bought most of their albums. Some of them like Top 40 stuff, but ALL were very impressed after hearing DT. OTOH, ALL of my female friends I have showed DT to have disliked them and won't even give 'em a second listen. They'd rather go and listen to the mega-cheesy, manufactured, Top 40 crap. That's just the way it is. On a side note, I was stoked the other day to hear one of my friends (that I had managed to convert to a full-on DT fan) had managed to perform another conversion himself. Whilst holidaying recently he was talking to this kid who lived in the apartment next to him and when the topic came around to music he said, "What music are you into ?", the kid responded with, "Metallica.". When he then asked if he'd heard of Dream Theater he got the usual reply of, "No", so he said he should check them out. The kid said, "yeah, I'll keep an I eye out for them." My friend just dismissed this as talk for the sake of conversation and forgot about the entire thing when suddenly he recieves an email the other day from this kid saying that he just bought I&W and loves the whole thing.... There are catagories like Best Drummer/Guitarist/Bassist/Keyboardist, as well as Band/Album/Song Of The Year, etc. It's actually a really cool thing. The winners are chosen COMPLETELY by popular vote (no pre-determined nominees or staff picks). The winners receieve a niffty little trophy as well as an individual (or band) write-up in an upcoming issue. So let's get the boys some press. You can enter by either buying this month's issue (w/ Metallica on the cover) or on-line at www.mtledge.com or do both.
