For me, the keys on FII are simply orders of magnitude more prominent than they were on Awake (I think this is the "Kevin wasn't into the music factor") Yet some people here keep talking about how "weak" the keys are on FII compared to Awake. Huh? I just don't hear it. I just don't hear the keyboards on Awake, except for an occasional pad here or there and a reasonably cool lead in a few songs. On FII the keys are all over the place, from organs to pianos to synth leads to sweeping pads, etc. etc. I also don't notice the "bad production: (guess I'm deaf) and for those who claim the album is disjointed, all I have to reply is that to me, Erotomania is ten times more fragmented than anything on FII. In fact, I don't hear any transitions on it that don't go smoothly. Hm. I will probably always hold I & W first in my mind among DT records, as it was the first I heard, but FII comes a darn close 2nd. The band sounds whole, unlike Awake, which I feel is four musicians and a session keyboardist there to earn some money. (poor Kevin, I still prefer his overall style to that of Derek's, but I just don't see him trying on Awake) __ /\ __ Chris Oates: email_address_removed __\/__\/__ +---- \_||_/ | "Still awake, I continue to move along, cultivating my | /__||__\ | own nonsense" -Dream Theater, "Trial of Tears" | // \ | \\ ----+ \| http://www2.ucsc.edu/people/aspect/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 17:48:05 -0500 (EST) From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Prog collection Message-ID: <971119174804_1138766435@mrin47> Jethro Tull-This Was, Stand Up, Aqualung, Living In The Past, Thick As A Brick, A Passion Play, WarChild, Songs From The Wood, Stormwatch, The Broadsword and the Beast, Under Wraps, Roots To Branches, Nightcap. We already know that the 'jam is divided into three sections (maybe there's a fourth faction out there, of those with mixed feelings): those who thinks that APSoG is one song, those who thinks that it is a concept album with 12 songs and those that don't know what they're missing. Many people have expressed the same thing Damon, that the Fanzine is pretty much redundant for us jammers, IMO the fanzine is a great read and always seem to have something interesting. But your situation is unique, maybe you can join and pass the fanzines on to someone who can use them. You can't buy the CD's from anywhere (except individuals who would want to sell their copy), even so, $15 for the CD by itself is still a pretty good deal for a CD that isn't commercially available. The fan club is run by Neil Elliot, maybe you should contact him and see if he can help you out. graham ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 17:20:34 -0800 From: email_address_removed (Dr. Mosh) To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Metallica Message-ID: On the Eve of Destruction, email_address_removed said: > > Is anyone as annoyed as I am? This is not meant to be offensive in any way, but why can't someone read the stuff they send you for you, and you still get a great CD for $15. The posters you can give to all your friends and spread joy in the world :) If you were going to buy just the CD it would probably cost you $15 anyway, so I don't really see what the gripe is. -- Mike Jones, email_address_removed __________ Cappy _________ email_address_removed Parallels - Official Fates Warning Mailing List | Progressive Metal Hub http://www.progmetal.org/fateswarning | http://www.progmetal.org ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 3261 **************************
