I concur fully! I saw them back in September when they played here at UW, and they were great. They're not prog (or at least, not like any of the prog bands people talk about here), but they're pretty damn good. It's unfortunate that they get so little publicity in the US, because up here they're pretty big. Now if only the rest of DT would move to Toronto and claim they're Canadian, they'd get tons of airplay and be pretty big up here too... :) Another good Canadian band worth seeing is Our Lady Peace (and of course, I Mothear Earth as well). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 16:29:12 -0500 (EST) From: "Partha S. And if you think Que Allegria was great, get Live at the Royal Festival Hall. Three's one long long drum solo there which sounds completely musical. No offense to Portnoy, who I like better when playing with the band, but Gurtu solos a hundred times better. Ouch. Why was i not informed that a band had so totally defeated DT and rush in the long songs department? Basically, apsog is a 53 minute song, right? I haven't been able to sit and listen to it completely yet (hell, it took me 3 months to build up the attention span to listen to acos in its entirety - and pay attention). So far i noticed part 5 just kinda stood out - but i guess to you fates warning fans that might be like someone saying they've been listening to awake and so far they like voices. You wanna go, "yeah, but the rest of the CD kicks just as much ass!!" well, it'll grow on me. At least i like it. :) My only other experience w/FW is parallels, which i really liked and listened to plenty until i lost it. Well, I guess that's it for now. Angra was once rumored to be appearing at Powermad 1997 but I think it fell through due to some reason. This is the first I've heard of Gamma Ray being rumored to playing. One of my favorite CD's is by a band called The Chance called ,simply "6 song EP". It's only about 36 minutes long but it kicks more ass than anyone could in such a short time It's just straight-ahead rock, but the performances are all top-notch and the songwriting is great. There's some killer slap bass, too. Back me up on this, Jason! One thing that also contributed to the bands breakup was Gary's (lead singer) acting career. He played Jesus Christ in a production of "Jesus Christ, Superstar." Not sure if that was a Broadway production or not. All reviews I saw gave Gary very high marks for his role in the play. Of course, Extreme was pretty unstable during the production of their last album, since the original drummer left the band around that time. There are rumors that the replacement drummer, Mike Magini, is starting a "new Extreme." If course, Gary's now with Van Halen and Nuno has a solo career, but I'm unsure of what Pat Badger (bassist) is doing. Anyone have any word on this? Is he slated to be part of the "new Extreme?" > As for Extreme, well you can catch their new band, yup, they're called Van > Halen, with Gary on vox. I did find a few mailing addresses for some FanClubs, one in Germany, one in England and one in Japan but are there any FanClubs in the states?? I wanted to see about getting him one for Xmas but if I have to write to England or Japan to find out where to send the money (if I can purchase one) and wait for a reply, it'd be too late for Xmas.
