Start another Metallica flame war on the Ytsejam!?!?!? ;) I guess it's toNIGHT that they're premiering the video for the Memory Remains on eMpTyV (not last night, like they said they would >:P) at around midnight or so. The hell if I know which time zone they were talking about :P. If you want in depth discussion about Metallica's song writing, yer gonna have to take it somewhere else. I wouldn't suggest the alt.rock-n-roll news group...it's the absolute dumbest, degrading, unintelligent group of posts I've ever run across in my life. :P Mind you, I'm not doing a 180 on my personal belief about Ytsejam content, I'm still interested when Roger posts setlists like THAT (MOP full?! SHIT!!!) and tourdates....those save me the trouble of wading through hundreds of posts by morons going, "Metallica didn't sell out. They told all their old fans to fuck off, thus reducing the amount of sales they might have. That's not selling out now, is it?" (that was a real argument...ugh) Anyhoo, sorry to make this so long, but REALLY consider what you send to the jam before you press that send key. This band is really good. >Thanks >Arash Well, if you've heard KTAII, then you know how great "Close to the Edge" and "And You and I" are. Those are both on the album _Close to the Edge_ along with the song "Siberian Khatru", a must-have classic Yes song. My first recommendation would be to pick up Fragile, which has four excellent songs, including the popular classics "Roundabout" and "Long Distance Runaround", and, more importantly, "Heart of the Sunrise", IMO the best Yes song ever, and one of my top five favorite progressive songs of all time. The other songs on that album are short pieces that the band members did as individuals. If you like the progressive stuff, I'd also recommend Relayer, which, like Close to the Edge, has one 20min and two 10min songs on it--amazing stuff. I'd also recommend The Yes Album which has "I've Seen All Good People" on it, as well as the classic "Starship Troopers". So in summary: 1) Fragile 2) Close to the Edge 3) The Yes Album 4) Relayer After you get these four, I'd also recommend Going for the One, Tormato, Tales From Topographic Oceans, Yesterdays, KTA I, and the self titled Anderson-Bruford-Wakeman-Howe album, which is not technically a Yes album but has those four members (from the Fragile/CttE years). Okay, so I gave you more than a recommendation for a first album, but Fragile will blow you away, and you'll want to know what to buy next, so I left out nothing important. Oh yeah, and I know nothing about Marillion. -Topher ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 19:00:16 -0500 From: Kevin Madden To: email_address_removed Subject: Sounds like Dio to me (NDTC) Message-ID: Mr. Ptacek claimed he didn't hear the similarities between Symphony X's singer and Dio. Poor Mr. Ptacek had a screwdriver jammed into his hear by that luthier who set Chris straight about the usefulness of a scalloped fretboard. Ever since then, he's been listening to music with his other ear....the same ear that is deaf from Maddy yellinging into it all the time "Chris, quit playing Ron Thal on iParty and come to dinner!!"
