It was fortunate that I can express my opinions about this album some time later. Why? Because my first impression could be described by Gary Oldman's words (from "Fifth Element" motion picture): I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED ! I've been listening to Prog-Power for a dozen or so years, so nowadays my first impressions of the music are rather objective (it means that I make mistakes very rarely) But later I've come to the conclusion that FII is a good CD...but.... ... If a new, young band had released such album as FII we could have said: "what a marvellous debut!" But FII has been released by DT, admitted, world famous, one of the best, maybe the best band in the world! In such context FII is a musical regress: lack of killing melodies (guitar's an vocal's), weak work of keys, conventional ballads (just like The Beatles' or R.Marx'S ones ;), some problems with arrangement (esp. in "Peruvian Skies" and "Trial Of Tears") I remember that one of Ytsejammers wrote, several weeks ago, that he was afraid of new DT's album (contrary to lots of hopeful opinions about approaching DT's CD other memebers of our list) He noticed that DT gradually depreciating its standard. Unfortunately, one should admit that He's right :( Kuba R. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 1997 12:06:40 -0500 (EST) From: KillMary To: email_address_removed Message-ID: >> AOL demands that at least one of the characters in your user/password is a >> number. > >seriously not true. if i had to guess why theres a 1 on the end it would >either have to represent him being the 1st ex for DT (i think he was the >first) or because somone had already used XDTVOC... maybe i should ask him >next time hes on... Lisa, maybe when you signed on it didn't ask you for that, but I subscribed to AOL last month (to use some 50 hours I got from the Sarah MacLachlan CD), and I tried a character-only password, and it wouldn't let me. It said to me that I needed at least 1 number within the string. It was a difficult and >painful lesson. I have a guitar with a scalloped fretboard from the 6th fret on. I string it with 10s which makes for not a pretty good intonation, and it doesn't really get out of tune when I play chords... I think it has a lot to do with a person's touch. I've seen people that can bend notes out of intonation without scalloped frets, because they grab those strings oh-so-heavily... I have a medium-heavy touch - I've tried to play with .008s once just for kicks, and I couldn't come up with a chord that sounded good. .009s sounds ok though, usually. I mainly use .010s, which are perfectly what I need. Later K "I don't want to be saved. It's SUBjective. > He noticed that DT gradually depreciating its standard. > Unfortunately, one should admit that He's right :( Or he's wrong... or we're indifferent, or this is a bunch of crap. :) I've been on the jam for so long, I don't know why posts like this still force me to respond. Granted Timo Kotipelto is a much better singer (with a smaller range though!), but the older songs, at least to me, sound like they have a lot more to offer to the listener... they were more original. I miss the old Stratovarius!! Also let me point out that 'Twilight Time' is NOT their first album! They also have an album before that called 'Fright Night', which I have heard very little of to have an opinion. Apparently it was released only in Finland, and then re-released later on... or something like that! Plus a belated comment on Angra. Yes, I like them, and No, I don't think they sound like I&W DT, but what I find annoying about them is that they seem to 'miss' the feel of the song. You know, the way they just have a composition with cool melodies, and then stick a half-time drumbeat or something over it... sort of rushing a song to a higher speed than it needs to be played at! That and I think some of the Keyboard parts are a bit Cheesy.... :) I still like them enough though. Anyone feel this same way about them? Oh, and another thing... I always pronounced WDADU in my head as "Woo-Dah-Doo"... dunno why! :) must be the "U" mixing me up! :) Achilles : . "Why should we, think to care, Metalhead and : . Wont we anyway disappear?"
