I was fortunate enough to be able to attend both shows. Of the two, the HOB show was by far superior. Not that the band didn't play well at the Galaxy (they were great), but they seemed to be having much more fun at the HOB. I was fortunate enough to be standing next to the sound guy (on the left facing the stage) on a step. This last part is important since I'm 5'8" and sometimes have trouble seeing over all the taller people. There was a guy writing things down standing behind me (if your a jammer, I handed your pen back to you), and a couple of other reviewer type people (one even had a camera). They pretty much played the same set as has been previously reported, except for... SPOILER Mike came out on stage in the middle of the encore (Metropolis) after the band had stopped playing and introduced something that had only been done once before--NIGHTMARE CINEMA ! The guys switched instruments and covered Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers!" The Nightmare Cinema lineup is: James- vocals John P- Drums John M.-Keys Derek - Guitar Mike - Bass And they weren't half bad! END SPOILER I hope somebody got a video or sound recording of this show. I would certainly want copy. The current MLA standard is one space after a period. This was changed about three or four years ago(in the latest edition. Of course we have all been taught since we were little to use two spaces after a period. Finally got to use my English degree. AS was posted here recently there wil be a DT cybercast of the 11/30 show from the HOB (www.liveconcerts.com under upcoming events). Is anyone planning to press this to CD?? I am going to record to tape, but I don't think that my connection/computer setup is good enough to get good sound quality and smooth flowing sound. If anyone is going to press this please let me know, or if anyone that has a high speed connection and a good computer is makeing quality copy let me know. One last thing, as we all know in Japan FII came out with the bonus demos. Why do they get it and we don't, does it have to do with the record company? Any speific info would be appericated. That may be the case (IMO) but he was a decent singer and I can easily listen to WDADU and have no gripes. I dont think Charlie was very good live. I've only heard him on the consciously unreal boot, on which I feel he really sounds awful. Concerning John Arch. He too IMO is a decent singer. The DT auditions that most of us have was probably recorded on a cheap tape player. Of course it would sound bad. I have a video boot of Fates with John Arch and unlike Charlie, John Arch is/was very good live. I feel that John Arch fit the music Fates generated early on. Arch would not sound very good doing the Alder era songs. Concerning Chris Collins. John Arch might not have sounded good with Dream Theater, but if you listen to The Spector Within or Awaken the Guardian by Fates Warning (ATG is their best with Arch) I promise you will not think John Arch is crap. He deserves alot of praise for the work he did with FW. There is really no one with his style, and the melodies and harmonies he sings are outta this world. Give the man a chance. I think all Stratovarius CDs have great playing, good metal songs and all that European emotion. I like Fourth Dimmension as much as Episode and Visions, and I also like Dreamspace a lot. Even Twilight Time was surprisingly good considering it's their first. They were more straight-ahead metal in the beginning, but they had very good songs. And great guitar and drum parts, of course. And don't you dare FAQ >me, I've read it several times.... Well, duh. =) It's just what it says it is. Here, pronounce it out loud with me: Toowahatstis This, of course, is a very obscure Dream Theater song about the legendary leader of the Mayans, who worshipped their gods in elaborate ceremonies in which people were sacrificed. Recently it has been discovered that most of the people sacrificed were poser musicians who could play nothing more than 3-chord songs, which greatly offended the Mayans and their gods. While the disappearance of the Mayans remains a mystery in official scientific circles, it has been speculated that after their society as a whole discovered and embraced the concept of progressive music, they were lifted off the face of the earth to exist in a higher plane of existence. As you can imagine, the lyrics are pretty intense. 8^) Seriously, that is short for The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun, which is the 7th track off of Dream Theater's first album, When Dream and Day Unite. -- Jim (who sometimes has to chuckle at these acronyms.
