I have to admit I wasn't expecting much, but I hopped onto this site after reading this and on the progressive channel they've played, so far, King Crimson, Lemur Voice (!), Rage for Order-era Queensryche, and they just started playing OFB...ACOS...The whole thing! Now if only it wasn't AM quality, I'd never have to listen to the radio again. Lots of other stations to listen to if you get bored too. And I don't even work there. > A couple others to try out are: > http://www.hardradio.com > http://www.rebelradio.com Haven't tried these yet. It's a sample from the film "The Dead", which is an adaptation of James Joyce's short story from his book "Dubliners". The samples say: VOICE 1: "6 o'clock on a Christmas morning. And for what?" VOICE 2: "Well, isn't it for the honor of God, Aunt Kate?" VOICE 1: "I know all about the honor of God, Mary Jane!" You can find the whole passage from the book that was used in the film, if you look at the FAQ. ********************************************************** | George Tryfonas | | | CSE 1st Year | Better to save the mystery | | Univeristy of Kent | Than surrender to the secret | | Canterbury, UK | | ********************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Nov 1997 12:37:58 -0500 From: Santiago Leon To: DT freaks Subject: FAQ Message-ID: > Does anybody know what the snippets of dialogue are before the vocal in= tro > in 6:00? uh-oh... another dude getting the FAQ from merlo... --=20 +---------------------------+-----------------------------------------+ | | And I'll smile and I'll learn to pretend| | Santiago A. I haven't tried it yet. Thanks >in advance. RealPlayer 5.0 is the 2nd best out there right now for those of us with dial-up connections. The best is RealPlayer Plus 5.0, which is commercial. You can often find registration cracks for RPP as well as cracks to allow RP or RPP record the streaming audio which is normally not permitted on the alt.binaries.cracks newsgroup. I've used the record crack on my RPP (which I paid for) and it works great. Version 5.0 of this player increased the quality once again for low speed connections...and using ISDN, it sounds like you are listening to a CD! NetShow from Microsoft is also becoming popular, but I've never achieve RP's quality using it, and until the standards are completed, they will not be compatible with each other. BTW...Microsoft has invested in Real Networks, and is incorporating RealPlayer technology into Windows98. RealAudio 2.0 currently ships with Internet Explorer 4.0. For those of you who are looking for a good investment for '98, I'd jump on Real Networks' IPO that should take place soon. This is going to be a stock to watch. * I have no affiliation with Real Networks or it's partners...I'm just impressed with their technology. To find sites that stream audio, I recommend the following locations: www.timecast.com - Audio and Video listings. E-mail notifications of live events broadcast via RA. www.audionet.com - Audio listings for radio and other broadcasts from all over the world. www.ontheair.com - Listings for live commercial radio feeds only from around the world. www.thedj.com - Contains web page version of TheDJ, as well as downloadable non-browser player. Suggestions for listening to streaming audio on your computer: 1 - Don't even try it on a 486...you'll be really dissappointed in the performance. Use a P-90 or better. 2 - Purchase a cheap surround sound system complete w/ amp and 5 speakers. (Sam's Club has these for less than $200 complete). Dedicate it to your computer system, and you'll never be able to use those cheap computer speakers again. The subwoofer makes a LOT of difference, as well as the additional power behind the new amp vs. 3 watts coming out of your sound card. You'll be amazed at the difference! At the very least, run your line-out from your sound card to an available AUX input to your stereo system. 3 - If your ISP supports it, purchase a new 56K modem (they are getting really cheap now). RealPlayer has new features that allow 56K users to view full-screen video, as well as improved quality audio over 28.8 users. 4 - If ISDN is readily available in your area for a reasonable cost (it's NOT here in the Denver area from US West)...get it! You will never bad-mouth Realaudio's quality again once you hear it at 128K! Remember, at higher speeds, the broadcasting station may or may not support this rate. Ontheair.com has lots of radio stations listed that have both 28.8 feeds and ISDN feeds. Sorry to ramble on about a non-DT subject. DTC: Although I thought that the desing of the new "Touring Into Infinity" t-shirts were somewhat less than inspired, my girlfriend threatened to steal mine this morning. She thinks it's the best looking DT tour shirt so far (and she really despises DT!). I personally still like my long sleeve "Waking up the World" shirt best. Feel free to comment on any of my review. Here it is, enjoy! : - 1) The Ocean (1:33) Starts with waves crashing. Subtle minor piano playing in the intro. Rhythm section fades in to accompany the piano. Very cool. - 2) Welcome (2:11) Piano turns fast and major. Band comes in and Zach sings. This is a song starts the TWOM story and has a really "big" sound with the symphonic background. Ends with crashing waves. - 3) Turns to Me (6:01) Cool harmonic guitar rhythm intro. Zach on vocals singing with guitar in low voice. Song suddenly picks up with an 80's metal sound. Very cool. The songs breaks down at the end of the first verse with Zach singing low, guitar and bass. Rips back into the next verse. This is a good song to drive way too fast to. :) Song changes timing and goes into a major/minor chord progression. Zach's singing is awesome with the symphonic background on this part. 80's metal riff comes back in and guitar solo starts. Shredding and bends guitar solo. This song rules. -4) Morning Sun (5:49) Cool folk sounding acoustic chord progression with Zach on vocals. Breaks into a real balls n' chunk rhythm heavy drums for a verse, then drops into acoustic progression again. Back into balls n' chunk riffs. Cool bends progression in the guitar solo. Zach goes into one of his fast sung verses followed by another cool guitar solo. -5) Another Way (4:35) Jon on vocals, he was made for this song. Total tuned down balls n' chunk song that has a great chorus. Balls n' chunk quickie solo after first verse. Jon's vocals have gotten deeper and are just as scratchy, which sounds perfect in this song. Song slows down for a heavy-on-the bends solo. It has a really passionate Savatage sound to it. This song rules... am I noticing a pattern here? :) -6) Blackjack Guillotine (4:32) Slow and heavy minor riffage at intro. Guitar comes in with an *awesome* balls n' chunk riff, I love it!. Zach on the vox, doing an awesome job in this song. I can't stress it enough, the rhythm in this song with Zach's verses simply kicks ass. Rhythm picks up and starts into an 80's metal style progression for the guitar solo. I don't like the solo in this song as much, but it's still loaded with those insane bends that Savatage's ax-men do so well. -7) Paragons of Innocence (5:33) Heavy piano riff in beginning. Jon on the vocals kicking ass as always. This song has a horn backround sound to it in the chorus accompanied with piano, similar to that on Jesus Saves from Streets. Has Jon saying: "No one leaves... alive!" Awesome. Song turns heavy and crunching, and Jon starts into a fast "rapping" sort of thing... it's not rap, but he just kind of goes off, and it's cool I tell you. Ends with a fade out of a minor piano progression. I like it. -8) Complaint in the System (Veronica Guerin) (2:37) This song has a cool piano riff intro. There's this voice saying "got a complaint in the system" that might annoy you, but then again you could make a face and say it along with the song to impress your friends. Zach is really good in this song. The songs picks up with a fast guitar riff and starts really rocking. It's a keeper. -9) Underture (3:52) Waves crashing with a sad piano progression, really sounds cool. Band comes in with an orchestra background, very classical chromatic runs in parts, and very heavy with a cool rhythm. This song is bad ass! When you hear this song you picture fifty musicians on stage... it sounds really big. A very powerful sounding song indeed. Moving rhythms and riffage. I really liked the guitar solos peppered around the song on this track. They fit right in. I only wish this song was longer! -10) The Wake of Magellan (6:10) Cool bass rhythm with drums in beginning accompanied by clean guitar chords. Zach on the mic. Great verses and *superb* chorus with multiple vocalists. This is also a very powerful sounding song. Great guitar solo... plenty of crazy artificial harmonic bends and all over shredding. There's a really cool symphonic run out of the solo into the chorus. Zach's vocals are great on this song. *YES!* --- the well known Savatage multiple harmony vocals are in the end of this song. Chanting and singing from all sides! They all come together in the end and the song finishes off with the bass and drum dominated sound it started with. This song RULES. If you drive to this song you will probably crash. -11) Anymore (5:16) Major piano riff in the beginning with Zach singing slowly. The chorus in this song is powerful and awesome. After the chorus the song breaks into a piano rhythm that reminds me of Elton John's "B B B Benny and the Jets" song, heh. I'm not into that part, but it does fit the song, and goes back into the intro progression shortly. Cool choral background comes in and sings along with the opening piano riff from Welcome. Suddenly the song picks up and gets really symphonic and powerful. Slows down and ends with piano. Great song. -12) The Storm (3:45) Sounds of rain and thunder. Great minor piano progression intro. Band comes in heavy with symphonic brackground. Starts off with a long guitar solo with bends and shredding prominent. Ends with guitar riff and sounds of rain and thunder again. -13) The Hourglass (8:05) Starts with slow punching rhythm with minor piano progression. Zach on vocals singing slowly. Slow intro slows and the song breaks into it's main piece, minor and dark sounding with Zach singing the story of TWOM. Great verse bridge with heavy backing vocals. I really like the lyrics in this song with the dark rhythm. Song slows and breaks into a fast piano riff with Zach singing backed up with drums and straight guitar riff. Suddnely the progression breaks into a really powerful minor vocal section. Goes back into fast progression. Zach's singing is great here. Song gets powerful again with the sound turning major. Everything abruplty stops with a piano riff and then picking up the fast progression again. Harmonized backing vocals come in, starting the powerful Savatage vocal harmonies we all know. This song is spectacular! All voices converge and meet. The song breaks down with Zach singing slowly with piano. This part is really moving. I love this song! And there you go! I love every single song on this album and think that you guys are really going to like this one. Of course those of you in Europe already have yours (curses!), but this will give all the US jammers an idea of what to expect. I can't wait. This whole album has a very powerful sound to it and has a great production as always. I'm going to have a hard time waiting for this one.... until then my tape deck is going to be getting a lot of use! Hmm, interesting question. Here are some (rather lame) suggestions: An infinity symbol (if you can do it) 600 (6:00) 2001 (the start of the "New Millennium") 2112 (would probably work if you can't think of anything better) I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any right now....
