Are there "7 string" > string packets, and, if so, what brands have these strings? (I have a > personal preference for Earnie Ball's...) http://www.ibanez.com = Ibanez's web page, which will have pictures of all available 7 strings they produce. They make an archtop, an acoustic, and two solid body electrics (an RG and 2 variations of the Universe). Prices vary... I'd be happy to discuss the actual value of used Universe 7 strings with anyone. The market is inflated, and a lot of people are getting ripped off because they don't know what 7 strings were going for before the Universe was re-released. http://www.ior.com/~bkenneth/7heaven.htm = Seventh Heaven. It's an Ibanez dominated web page for 7 string players and enthusiasts. A lot of good information. They're starting a petition to have the old 7 strings re-released (Ibanez will not make any but the Black and Green and the new all black Universe... no swirls or white ones) which I myself don't care to participate in... I'd rather see new 7 strings than more of the old ones. Several other companies make 7 strings. Greco, Conklin, etc. Fender and Hamer have made a couple in the past. I've played on one of the world's only 2 "7 String Fender Strats." As you can imagine, these Hamer and Fenders are really hard to come by, and their prices are generally "Whatever the owner wants for em". Many smaller companies are building high quality 7s though. Ask in your nearby guitar shops of there are any local luthiers. You can get pickups and I think you can even get the trem system from the Universe (though it AIN'T cheap!) through DiMarzio, Duncan, EMG and Ibanez. As for strings, you buy a set of 6, from your favorite brand, and get a low B string (between 56-64 gauge... anything thinner is usually too floppy). No one to my knowledge makes full 7 string sets... but I know GHS will package sets for you... they did for me. Take care! By playing these smaller venues, they are "testing the waters" to see how strong their appeal is. After seeing the Detroit sold out, I think it's safe to say that they are doing well, but the point I'm trying to make is that some other bands refuse to accept the facts. When Queensryche played here in Grand Rapids over the summer, they booked the VanAndel Arena, which seats approx 12,000 for a concert. Queensryche only managed to sell 1600 tickets! This is the lowest turnout for a show in the arena's history. There will always be hardcores like us who love DT, but some bands just have to face to music. I'm pretty sure that DT will get to return the State Theater only the next pass. I'll never forget the last time the band played there. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the Animal/Portnoy similarity. I have never seen anyone that much into a show as Portnoy was at St. Andrew's. You could tell he was having the time of his life. JLB, on the other hand, was sick, so I guess I can't fault him for low stage presence. That's just my two cents. Anyhow, I'm still looking for Michigan progressive, metal, punk, hardcore, speed metal, and death metal bands for a compilation to be released on my new label, KingSize Productions. Later. Message-ID: Dream Theater doesn't have to worry about people copying their official releases, because Awake and FII are too long to fit on a CDR! CDRs can only hold 74 minutes, give or take a _very_ small amount either way. Awake is 75:something and FII is 78:19. Unless someone (which sure the hell ain't gonna be me) wants to edit out a track and do a linked copy, it isn't worth the trouble... buy the original. Bad humour or otherwise, why can't people keep their insults to private email. There's no reason for this to be on the jam. You call it poor offensive humour, someone else may have liked it. It's an issue of viewpoint. Email him and call him a moron if you must. But why stoop to name calling in front of a 1,000 people? DTC: Any of you that talked to the band at the current shows get any information about their '98 tour in the US? Will they play bigger venues? Are they still going to headline? Etc.... NDTC: Don't forget there's a Fates Warning list out there now, too. Information about subscribing can be found on my site (see .sig). It's low on subscribers, but excellent on content. I appreciate being on the Ytsejam, but the > fact that more than half of the posts are NDTC is annoying. Annoying to you. Anyways, it's apples and oranges, comparing ytsejam to tnms. My understanding is that there is another DT list called Voices, which is closer to the Rush list in its content restrictions and may be less annoying to you. Ytsejam allows, by definition, certain kinds of NDTC. I don't believe it specifies the actual ratios of DTC/NDTC which must be obeyed or anything like that. However, 90% NDTC and 10% sweet DTC is still worth the incredibly tasty price of admission, for me :) All, in all, I think Skadz' charter rocks! It allows for a great Variety of information to flow. I've never been on the Rush list, so I won't judge it. For what it's worth, I've been listening to Rush since the mid-70's :) Personally, I simply won't tolerate being on any music list where someone takes it upon themselves to constrict the flow of ideas to the extent that it seems the Rush list lord does. I don't have any problem with them doing it, and it seems to be fine for many. For me, though, there's just too much other excellent stuff out there that's related. I know I'm not the only one on this list who is eternally greatful for having been turned onto some most excellent groups in addition to OFB. Even OFB listens to some of them, if not outright tours with them. Just my dollar three eighty nine's worth..... Speaking of touring, I'd really like to see Rudess/Morgenstein Project tour with Dream Theater, perhaps in '98 ('97 appears to already be locked down tight). I have been rocked by RMP at several clinics, but missed the opportunity to catch them when they opened for them. My understanding is that RMP is a very good opener for DT. Prog is as prog does :) With this Liquid Tension thang coming up, I have visions in my dreams of some major jamming activities up on stage. Imagine, if you will, Jordan and Derek, Levin and Myung, Mike and Rod, all goin' nuts up there for starters :) And to those who doubt that something of such largeness could work, I've seen/heard it work many moon ago. It was at a Zappa concert with multiple drummers, basses, etc. Given the mixed reviews on Big Wreck and whether their style fits in a DT concert setting, I submit it to you the powers that be :), that RMP has the talent, the energy and the professionalism (for the music and towards the audience) to slip in here in '98 and not have to worry about whether the progressive listening audience will enjoy them or not. If the powers that be are listening, do it up, guys. These groups are keeping the extended jam alive. They belong together on stage!! Have a great weekend, and here's looking forward to more excellent reviews...next batch due to arrive real soon now from the Left Coast :) Regards, Jon *------------*----------------------------*--------------* | Jon Parmet | email_address_removed | 617-494-2851 | *------------*----------------------------*--------------* "Writing assembly code for pipelined processors has been known to keep one's bowels open." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Nov 1997 04:30:54 -0600 From: Ryan Good To: email_address_removed Subject: Lemur Voice Message-ID: Hey all.
