Was I the only one at the Chicago concert that didn't think they were too bad? Maybe I just kind of felt sorry for them or something, but I kind of liked some of the music. I could have done without a couple of the songs that seemed to be obvious steals from other bands (that one song that kept going on at the beginning, while waiting for Roger Daltry to break into the teenage wasteland chorus from Baba O'Reilly). Either way, I have seen worse, and besides, we didn't pay squat to see them. He has more than 500 cds, so he is a person who should know=20 something about music (I think he knows).IMO ANgra does not seem in anythin= g with DT. Because Angra comes from Brazil, and brazillian music is very different from the music of the other countries of South America. BTW, Nothing to say, was constructed under a brazillian rhythm called=20 "bai=E3o", particularly that Groove in the beginning of the song. And the others songs, are inlfuenced by (imo and according to the band) Iron Maiden, Queen, Judas Priest , Deep Purple, and they would not say, but Helloween. I know that Angra guys really do like DT, but I never thought=20 they were trying to be a DT rip- off. I like Altura, but I consider them as a mix between FAtes Warning, with that instrumental section on Metropolis. Not very original, but good. Angra is unique (imo) while ALtura is just ok. Daniel V. I guess I could maybe hear what you're saying, except for the fact that "Nothing To Say" - which is the song you heard - is more straightforward in it aggressiveness than I could ever see DT doing. I still maintain that they sound nothing like DT, however - especially since they're more classically - influenced, and DT is more Jazz influenced. The rhythms, melodies and structure are all totally different, but the overall sound might be construed as being similar - both "Holy Land" and I&W use a thickly layered, dense mix style to create that "huge" feel. Something I love, BTW. :) And as for Syrinx saying that he likes Altura, but just passes Angra off as DT clones, I have to ask him - did you get the CD's reversed? :) Altura uses similar structure and melody to DT, and I hear an obvious influence in writing style - I just don't think their songs are as good as OFB. All of this, of course, is IMNSHO. :) Mike > > ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Nov 1997 10:12:51 -0500 From: "Christopher R.
