I've gotten quite a few orders in the last two weeks, and there are still plenty of shirts left. If you are going to the Chicago DT show, try to track down Chris Ptacek (Madsman) before or after the show, there's a chance he might have a heap of shirts to sell for me. As for getting a shirt to wear to a DT show, turn around is *usually* a week from the time you send the check to the time that you get the shirt, but give it two weeks just in case. In fact, if you plan to wear one of these shirts to a DT show anytime this century, go ahead and order now because there are only a few dozen left, and if the orders keep coming like they have, they won't last long. When I get time to sit down and organize everything, I'll have a more accurate shirt count, but for now: a dozen or two Large and a few dozen XL. Get em while their hot. +-------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Ytsejam T-Shirts | | | +-------------------------------------------------------+ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** new since last update * new in last two updates --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Well, it's been quite a while. I've probably gone four months without ** reading a jam (although they are still arriving in my inbox daily), and ** have posted very scarsely. A lot has happened since May, but things are ** back in order finally. ** First things first. I am no longer at Mizzou, I have transfered to UMSL. ** This means a new web site, new email address, and new mailing address and ** phone number. The XXXL, XXL, and M shirts are sold out. I did manage to make the money to make the final payment in time for the shirts. From this point on, the shirts will be going towards paying back my loan for the downpayment. Thanks again to everyone who has ordered, and all of you who plan to. I would just like to take this chance to thank everyone who has been so supportive of the shirts... It's nice to know that my work on this project is appriciated. And special thanks to Chris Hailey for the amazing artwork. ======== Web Page ======== There is a web page online, complete with ordering instructions, facts and figures, comments on the shirts, actual scans directly off the shirts, a list of paid orders, and a mini FAQ. Check it out at: http://www.prognosis.com/gabbo/ in the Dream Theater section. I owe a million to Chris Ptacek for the web space, it means a lot. ======= Details ======= The Ytsejam shirts are two sided prints. The front of the shirt features a *full color* raytraced graphic from Chris Hailey in Washington. The graphic is a beautifully done scene with the Majesty logo floating behind a group of marble columns on a tile floor with a wide view of space visible behind. The back of the shirt is in a solid light blue color. The majority of the design is a huge Majesty logo, framed by the Dream Theater title at the top, the mailing list address on the sides and "Ytsejam" at the bottom. Below that is "Internet Mailing List" between two more Majesty logos. The current lot of shirts is 217 (they printed up more than I asked for, but I'm not complaining). If those run out, and demand is high enough, I may run another with a slightly different design. You can check out all of the details, as well as a preview of the shirts at: http://www.prognosis.com/gabbo/ in the Dream Theater section. ======= Pricing ======= The cost of the shirts is $16 each. The shirt is damn close to concert quality, so $16 is a steal (last Dream Theater concert I was at charged $23 for a shirt!). If you are picking the shirt up from me directly the $16 price stands. If you can't get the shirt in person, you can order one through the mail for $20 to cover shipping. I spoke with the people at the post office and I've decided to set the shipping prices outside the USA at $9, for a total of $25. I realize this is damn expensive for a tshirt, and I'm sorry. If individual prices are signifigantly less expensive, I will gladly return a check for the balance. The rundown: L or XL shirt, picked up: $16 L or XL shirt, mailed in the US: $20 L or XL shirt, mailed outside the US: $25 ============ Availability ============ Size: Sold: Reserved: Remaining: Total: ----- ----- --------- ---------- ------ M 4 0 1 5 L 32 0 6 38 XL 85 0 61 146 XXL 24 0 0 24 XXXL 4 0 0 4 ------ ----- --------- ---------- ------ Totals 149 0 68 217 ======== Ordering ======== The shirts are open to mail ordering now. Mail orders will be shipped out every Wednesday via Priority Mail for US orders, and airmail for all others. Checks and money orders will be cashed before the order goes out, most likely on Monday. So far, mail orders have gone well, the only problem I have had has been with the bank, not the post office, so don't worry about your orders. All US orders are insured for the amount paid for the shirts and shipping, and insurance on airmail depends on the country and other aspects. To order, send a check or money order for the proper US dollar amount (see pricing above) to: Pat Griffin 6581 Bradley Ave <-- Note the change of address! St. Louis, MO 63139 Make them payable to Pat Griffin, and remember this in US dollars. Be sure to include: Your name. Email address. Mailing address. Phone number. Quantity of shirts you want to order. The size of each. Whether this order is for pickup for mail order. I will keep you up to date on the status of the shirts through email. ============= Miscellaneous ============= Remember that all the info can be found online at: http://www.prognosis.com/gabbo/ in the Dream Theater section. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any questions feel free to email me at: email_address_removed Or call at: (314)645-8649 h t t p : / / w w w . p r o g n o s i s . c o m / g a b b o / | Pat Griffin Reality Squared Design | | email_address_removed email_address_removed | h t t p : / / w w w . p r o g n o s i s . c o m / g a b b o / ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Oct 1997 17:14:30 +0900 From: Paul Dyer To: email_address_removed Subject: Opeth... I tend to like heaps of cahnges in my music ie my fave Death metal album is Carcass - "Necrotocism - Descanting the Insalubrious" which is a riff-o-rama of an album! I don't know... Well, he played it on 12/28/95, this is recorded in the "Darkest of Winters" release from Prism Records.Unless this is the Accoustic Guitar version, but I am 90% sure it's Derek. WFS isn't that complicated a song by what I can tell by listening to it. Derek is phenomanal. He also played Learning to Live during the FF96 tour, I have a great recording of it, and it sounds better than when Kevin played it live. This is my first post in months, but don't worry, I'm not going to slag Eternity-X this time. ;) Ryan Good spake thusly: > BLack LIght syndrome. > Seriously. How is one supposed to enjoy the songs when they're all sounding > alike? Bass blurbs, flamenco guitar. I don't know. I guess Magna Carta > just missed it's "Future of Progressive Rock" "roots." Hmmm.... having just listened to BLS again a few hours ago, I can say with certainty that not all the songs sound alike. Only two tracks (Duende and Book Of Hours) have the Flamenco influence, and Book Of Hours doesn't even qualify as true flamenco. I'd give most of the songs a Crimson-ish description. And, being a bassist, I'm obligated to say that Tony Levin's bass work on that album is magnificent and rocks ass in new ways. :) Of course, if you want to make the case that all the songs sound alike because they feature the same musicians and many of the same instruments and concepts, then I'll grant you the point. But you seem to be generalizing about the album after only a few hasty hearings. I can't say that I hear a lot of DT in the album... but that's exactly the point. If they wanted it to sound exactly like most of the other progressive metal that Magna Carta (and other labels) produce, would it be of any special interest? I've heard people say that "X sounds too much like Dream Theater, therefore it sucks and lacks originality" for too many bands now. And who says that Magna Carta shall only release records and musical works which conform to the "Future of Progressive Rock" anyways? Are they to be pigeonholed and limited to one genre? I hope not, as their Genesis Tribute CD "Supper's Ready" isn't exactly comprised of newly composed progressive songs. That's akin to saying that Rykodisk should be limited to releasing only Zappa-esque music, since they have more than 30 Zappa albums already and are well known for their Zappa catalog. What I think makes this album special to me (and others) is the fact that 3 very talented musicians got together and poured their creative talents into these spontaneously composed songs. Read the liner notes and you'll see that barring some subtle and nonintrusive overdubs, all the songs were recorded on their first or second take in the studio, with no previous rehearsal. To me, that's pretty damned impressive, and the music reflects that improvisational quality. I'd like to see Dream Theater (and other bands, too) make that claim for spontaneity and still record music of that caliber on the first or second take. If you're disappointed because there aren't any vocals, well... get over it. Dream Theater does instrumental stuff too. (gasp! :) Please don't mistake my words for an insult, or to rag on your taste of music. I can't expect everybody to agree with my likes and dislikes, and I certainly don't want to force you to listen to BLS if you really don't appreciate it... but it does seem as if you're not really giving it a chance. If you're really serious about this CD and you want to give it a second or third chance, here's my honest suggestion... set it aside for two months. Lock it up or hide it in your CD rack, leave it alone, and forget about it. Listen to the music that you like and enjoy that. Then, two months from now, pull out the CD and give it another shot. I'm betting that you'll have a greater appreciation for it. If, by that time, you still don't like the CD, then by all means sell it to someone who will enjoy it and appreciate it. Personally, I'll admit it... I didn't like "Images and Words" or "Awake" or Echolyn's "As The World" or Jethro Tull's "Roots to Branches" or RUSH's "Chronicles" or Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" on the first listen. Those of you out there who know me will be shocked, but I really didn't get into any of my now cherished and favorite albums.... until about two months after I bought them. The set-aside-and-listen-later trick does work for me, though I can't explain why. Does anyone else notice this? :) Okay, off my soapbox and back to work. Later, all... [ Matthew A. First, I've been listening to a TON of APSOG lately, and I absolutely love it! I totally rediscovered the CD. I dunno why "II" isn't on the radio around here, and "XI" and "XII" totally kick my ass. Great stuff. I've never actually listened to the CD all the way through, and I was laying down going to sleep while listening to it. The music stops and there's silence. All of a sudden there's this loudasfuck alarm clock going off...scared the shit outta me 'n woke my ass up! On these lines, I'm kinda pissed at my fav bands. I mean, my favorite bands are Megadeth, Dream Theater, and Metallica. Let's start with Megadeth. I know I'm being picky (being as the new album fookin' ROCKS!), but I hate the guitar tone on CW. If it was the same as on CtE or Youthanasia, there would be no problems for me. The rest of the music on the CD is all top notch, everything but the guitar tone. You can really hear what I'm talking about in the verses to "Trust". The 'heavy' downpicked E has almost no sustain. See what I mean? Eh, I'm just picky :) As for Dream Theater, I'm confused. I&W was heavier than WDADU, Awake was heavier than I&W, ACOS was (arguably) heavier than Awake...(see the progression?) leading up to heavier album, right? What happened?! I love the music on FII, but I don't like how the guitar and the drums sound. I think if the guitar was a bit thicker there would be almost no problem. As for the drums, the bass drum is like dead and everyone has their own opinions about the snare :) Can someone explain what happened to make DT change their minds and go lighter as opposed to getting heavier (which seems like the road they were heading down)? I've already assumed the obvious. Now the controvercial one ;)....Metalli...Alter...eh, let's just call 'em "-ica" for now. Anyone read the new interview in Guitar World? Man, for the first time ever, I'm pissed at this band. Hetfield basically says fuck you to all the fans that have been with the band the longest. Something like "Metallica is all about not giving a fuck". That pic of Kirk on the cover....man, what happened to this guy? Someone please shoot me if I ever look like that! As for the new album, I like the fact that (supposedly) the songs are longer and more progressive. I think that's good. Heck, for Metallica, I'd say anything not in concert E is progressive :) Nah, but the bad thing I've heard is that they're not gonna record speed metal probably ever again and there's more "southern rock" on the new album...the album will be more experimental. All I can say is that I'm looking forward to and also dreading this CD. I wanna hear the good MUSIC from this band, whatever it may be, but it just dissapoints me. I mean, the reason I'm mad they don't do the heavy stuff anymore is because they were the absolute best at it. In my mind, no one could touch them. To this date, the only thrash album that comes close to old-school Metallica is "Rust In Peace" by the band that STILL plays thrash on their albums. Questions, comments, flamewars? (I accept none from Lars Hellspawn) Oh yeah, if any of you know a good drummer in the Phoenix area, let me know! Thanks.
