Slow, boring, jams. Oh...please give it some more listens. you will like it. It's a very good album especially the 5th song, Falling in Circles. This song really reminds me of Robert Fripp's playing style. One more thing, you might not like it because music is a matter of tastes. And there is nothing in this album sounds like Dream Theater music. Just my humble opinion. In college many years ago (over 10), I did a psych project that assessed people's thoughts about different types of music, what they thought about it, why they felt that way, and so on. Part of it was filling out a short survey, and I will never forget the comment from one high school student: "I only like songs I know." This, to me, sums up why much of the public goes for Top 40 music. It doesn't challenge them. It's lowest common denominator entertainment, like much of TV and bestselling books (for those that still bother to read books, anyway). Just some of my thoughts. One of the best fusion guitarists, sounds like Joe Satriani, but... he's different.. He is more into jazz, anyway, amazing technique and outstanding music. +2) Michael Angelo. Very famous for his two-necked guitar, you probably have seen a picture of him in your guitar store.. Extremely cool at live performances. Two-handed style is really cool!!! [Acoustic guitar] 1) McLaughlin, DiMeola, Lucia - no comments. Just notice that McLaughlin is John, not Billy. [bass] 1) Randy Coven. Really hard to find, very good finger-playing style, rather heavy, for he uses some pedals on his recordings... His 'Funk me tender' is really nice... 2) Billy Sheehan. Comletely versatile player - jazz and heavy at his fingertips... All styles... You can check his work with Mike Portnoy on "Working Man - tribute to Rush". Apparently, one of their ticket distributers (King Soopers) has major computer problems. I called the Ogden directly and the show apparently is NOT sold out yet. They said that tickets could be picked up from either the venue itself or a place called "Across the Tracks" (13th and Washington in Denver). Prices are $18.50 + $2.25 surcharge. Guess I'll have to run get mine soon! (after I get out of my procrastinators anonymous meeting) I have to ask if anyone is getting these new shows on tape. I know that DT isn't like Phish in the sense that Phish rarely (never?) repeat their setlists (and have a VERY liberal taping policy). However, DT does add new jams to their studio songs, as well as work in killer seques from one song to the next. These shows should be documented and made available for jammers. Does anyone do blanks+postage tape trading anymore?! I'd love to be able to drop $45 for a double CD of the Toad's Place show...but that's crazy. I'd rather spend the money on blanks and get more shows. I'd even offer to be a part of a tape tree, if I had an early generation to spin from. One of these days I'll be able to afford the stealth DAT setup that I've been drooling over for 6 months. Needless to say, I'll continue to purchase any and all official releases from OFB (James has me all pumped up talking about a live CD!)...but they won't release them fast enough to suit me. How many of you would plop down hard cash tomorrow to have Met. Pt.II, DT Live, or the Millennium Project CDs in your grubby little hands? Also from the sounds of it, the guys are loosening up a little bit on stage...I think it's time they start video taping every show. It's been far too long since LiT came out. I want a new live video. Besides, I gotta see Derek dancing a jig. Will the HY video be release here in the US? I know that it's the single in Europe (smart move...anything but BMS would have been a better choice). I'm sure we won't see it on MTV. I wonder if they'll distribute it through video stores (like LiT)? Enough rambling for now...I leave you to ponder these thoughts.
