Well it all depends on the individual. I started out listening to = Boston, Journey, Rush, Kansas, etc.... from my older brother in the late = 70"s. (for this I am grateful) I was only about 9 years old (born in = 1970). =20 Then I went to school, junior high to be exact. Met new people and = started listening to Iron Maiden, JP (NO Judas Priest), and many other = Metal Bands. And of course my favorite Queensryche since 1984. A total = turn around from the previous but still enjoyed listening and supporting = them. =20 Then High School. "Glam" hated most of it. Loved Ratt, Scorpions, Def = Leppard, etc.. the ones that I consider to be more Talented. Even though = the only musical background that I have is several years playing the = Trumpet but I still think I have a good ear for music. Then the decline. The music that I loved was disappearing rapidly, or at = least going back underground, no more syndicated MMMMetal Shop on late = night radio, from which I heard alot of new music.=20 Late in the 80"s I heard DT, PMU on a station out of Colo Springs KILO = 94.3 (the best station in Colorado) even though I live 1 1/2 hours north = in Denver. =20 I was alive again with good NEW music.=20 To sum up this lengthy post (I'm sorry for the use of space for all = those concerned), it all depends on other people for the most part. You = don't just all of a sudden have a musical taste, it takes time and other = outside influences to build ones tastes. I believe it takes a knowledge = of a variety of styles to create a depth in ones musical taste. Also you = can not assume that someone is not intelligent if they have never come = in contact with a certain artist, that IMHO limits your own ability to = understand or be compassionate towards other peoples circumstances. Thats all folks, Eric from Denver This is not meant to Slam any Jammers, but instead give another point of = view. Variety is the spice of life. OH ya, one week until two consecutive nights of Live DT. for us in Colo. -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ---------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 1997 18:12:42 -0500 From: "Metzger, Mark" To: "'(ytsejam)'" Subject: Beer Hunter and Fire Message-ID: >> > something. Ice fishing. Play beer-hunter. >> >> OK, I give. What's beer-hunter? Well, it is a favorite pastime of Canadian origin (fitting into the theme of the post). Two players. You. The opponent. Take a cold six pack of beer in cans and put them into a cooler of ice water. Shut the lid to the cooler. You see, the ice water helps to keep the beers cool. (Canadians are not as slow as we make them out to be, eh ?? :) Shake one of the six cans up viciously and ferociously then return it to the cooler taking turns to move the cans around in the ice water as to disguise the "live 'un". Now, take turns opening a beer up right in front of the opponents' face. If the candidate beer is not shaken up, you lose. Drink the beer. If said beer is the "live 'un", your opponent loses. Gets doused you see. Get it ?? Beer-hunter. >> "Fire. That burns things." -Metzger >> >> I like that. May I, Mark? :) May you WHAT thar d-boy ?????????? This might be true in some cases, but not for all. I am proof of that. When I was young (2nd grade) all I did was watch MTV (when they played videos) because I had older siblings who also watched MTV. So I listened to the music of the general masses at that time. But I still made choices within those boundaries. I would keep the TV on when it was Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, etc. and turn it off if it was Michael Jackson, George Michaels, Prince, Debbie Gibson, etc. Then when I couldn't find what I listened to on MTV, I turned to radio and listened to what they played. It was my only source of new music. And that is how I heard of DT. (Well, actually I forgot about them until I saw them on Headbanger's Ball, but anyway...) I got into DT because they sounded good to me. I formed my own opinions about music without having any formal training. And my older siblings who once listened to Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, etc. now listen to the music of the masses even though it has changed. Lucky for me, I get all their old tapes :) So it relies on the individual and the way their tastes develop. There is no one way that people go about listening to a certain band or style. I am not implying that this is what Lars is saying. I am just expanding upon what I have said. -~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_- | Robert Taylor The world may seem flown away | | email_address_removed Almost as if it cannot be saved | | The Phoenix Will we be able to rise | | From these ashes we've sown | -~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 1997 07:59:13 +0700 From: Arif Basuki To: "'email_address_removed'" Message-ID: This message is in MIME format. But I must warn thee - there is ANOTHER band out there by the name of Incubus that is really REALLY hard-core Death metal. (A friend of mine has a Death metal compilation called "Death is just the Beginning III" and one of the scarriest bands on there is this Incubus band.) So if you're looking for the Funky Incubus, don't buy the album if there's demons and blood and entrails on the cover. (Or at least wipe it off first. ;) (Note: I have no idea what the album covers of either band look like so I'm just guessing...) But this begs to be asked: Isn't there some RULE out there preventing two bands existing at the same time with exactly the same name??? Hmmm. What's another example of a band being forced to change its name due to another band already having it... Ummm. Hmmmm... Could it be... MAJESTY??? Possibly it's because the two Incubii (cute, huh?) are such different genres, they figured that nobody would mistake the two or even more possible, they aren't even aware that the other exists. I have a feeling that the Death Metal Incubus is from a European country while the Funky Incubus is an American band. If anyone has any more clues as to these bands and why they can exist at the same time, feel free to post away. I'm sure you're all a lot better off for reading this. ;) Later! - Dr. Teeth P.S. On a local Hard-core metal show (93-X's Extreme Metal Shop), they played a band by the name of Sugar Ray and it sounded NOTHING like the band that's currently on MTV singing "Fly". There is a chance though that it's the same band and is just really an eclectic sounding group...
