Message-ID: The time has come again for the giddy to return from a recent Dream Theater concert and immediately post the setlist they played to the Jam. This is all well and good, but for all you newbies out there: Not all of us want to know those setlists - we want to be surprised. So, for the courtesy to your fellow jammers, if you wish to post the setlist of a recent concert, PLEASE put the ***SPOILER*** tag in the subject line of your post so people like me can quickly zoom past them with the secret still remaining intact. For me, this will be my very first Dream Theater experience and I want to go into this concert with a clean slate in terms of what to expect. SO PLEASE USE THE ***SPOILER*** TAG!!!!!!! Thanks guys! Message-ID: My friends - Okay, I am in digest mode and so far, I have not seen anything posted about last night's Toad's show. If this is old news by now for you, I apologize, so I'll try to keep it brief. First of all, the KILLER set list: Intro (Same Keyboard Intro as at the FF96 shows) LINES IN THE SAND (Can You Believe It??) Under a Glass Moon Burning My Soul Voices Hollow Years (Electric Version) Puppies On Acid/The Crimson Sunrise/Just Let Me Breathe Peruvian Skies Pull Me Under SCARRED/The Inevitable Summer/Ytse Jam Metropolis (Including FF96 Jam in the middle) ENCORE: A New Millenium/The Crimson Sunset Well there it is!!! (I hope that I remember everything in the set) An outstanding gig to say the least. At the end of The Crimson Sunset, they not only threw in the little teaser of A Fortune In Lies, they also gave us a bit of Lie! Very cool! The band came out smoking last night, and James's voice was as strong as I have heard in years. It was very refreshing. Only a couple of minor screwups that I'm attributing to opening night bugs. I think James mixed up a couple of lines, but not enough to matter. The band also had a minor false start at the beginning of A New Millenium, but other than that, DT was firing on all cylinders last night. It was great! I had the opportunity to meet a very cool fellow Jammer, YtseJim, who shot the shit with me between bands. I also spoke very briefly with a female Jammer (whose name I never got) and another Jammer, I believe named Isaac. I swear, it's just like one big extended family, isn't it! :-) One other really cool thing about the whole night was the canned music playing before and after DT kicked our collective asses. Before they came on, the PA system was playing unreleased DT demos! First off was "Cover My Eyes", then "Raise the Knife" with vocals, then "Where Are You Now", and then one more I didn't recognize (can anyone help on that one?). And, as I was exiting the building, I don't know what the hell it was, but I swear it was a LOUNGE ACT version of "Under a Glass Moon"! It was great!!! Does anyone have any idea what the hell that was??? Well, I guess that's it. An amazing night, to say the least. The one big downer of the evening, though, was NO SHIRTS FOR SALE! WTF??? A guy I was next to was saying that he already asked and someone told him there was a screwup and the stuff wasn't ready in time. Does anyone know the real story? Heh heh... So much for keeping it short. :-) Laterz.... Message-ID: Was just chatting with my sister about how Radio is a dictatorship, and how like a cruel monarch it routinely opresses us and force feeds the latest big thing down the the wrong pipe while we're being bound to the collective chair of stagnant pseudo-art by the unbreakable chains the record companies seem so fond of and and and and (alright. . time to calm down). . . Well, the point is, the last time I was home from college for a weekend, I noticed that my areas only classical music station (95.7 for all you philly people out there) had been reformatted (method unknown) to be a popular music station. It made me kind of sick. This was one of the last threads tying decent music to radio, and it was rent asunder like so much wheat before the scyhte. Whenever radio became too inane, I would turn on the classical station. . . it was kind of like the last free choice. But now I get to hear the latest new music (which I could have heard if I had decided to turn to any other station on the dial), instead of music that made me think, made me actually feel something. perhaps dictatorship is a harsh term. . . maybe fascist regime would have been more appropriate. . . :) But seriously. . . it seems record companies combined with radio have a lot to do with who becomes popular (why, yes, yes I believe we have talked about this before. . ). If elektra supported DT, and radio forced them down our throats, wouldn't they become as popular as any other band you can't stand to listen to now (heh. . and could you stand to listen to them?)? Responses: > No, I wasn't at all dismayed by Mike P. asking for our help in getting > the word out about DT. if we don't do it, who will? > I'm not afraid of DT suddenly becoming popular for two reasons: 1) I you know what? I started this whole thing, and I'm worried, but I'm not scared. I can still put in 'justice for all' and 'master of puppets' and rage just as always. . . chances are if/when Dream Theater 'reloads,' I'll just put in IAW and sit back and enjoy. . . > I haven't heard this mentioned yet, so I'll throw it out. At this point, I feel really comfortable. There's this band that I love, and they put out albums that I think are incredible, and that's about it. Message-ID: People, At one time, the general population used to listen to bands like Led Zeplin, Deep Purple, Rush, etc. Hey, even DT did. Well, somewhere along the line, general tastes changed. I think it's silly to put down the intelligence of the general populus. I think it's also silly to want DT privately for all of the music students in the world. Some people just listen to music for a beat, IE. my mother. Some for catchy melody. Many listen to be moved somehow. I think that's the best reason to listen to a band. If you simply listen to a band for analytical value, why not do a math problem instead? Granted, I still listen to Greg Hough and Michael Angelo and just wonder at them, but I actually enjoy listening to FII. Know what I mean? I rather emotional highs than brain teasers. Don't mean to offend the right-brains out there. Anyway, I've been posting way too often. Be well. Matt B "No man is an island? Pok. Rubbish! Every one of us is an island.
