Message-ID: Hi all. I noticed while i was listening and following the FII lyrics, that if you look at the back page of the cover (second page) and face it vs. some light, you see both photos put together (The two guys looking at each other, and the fuzzy photo in the back) and looks pretty cool. It gives you a new perspective of what you are looking at. The same thing with the last 2 pages. Hope you understand what i tried to say....... During the mid-80's, long after I had retired my vinyl copies of _Leftoverture_ and _Point of Know Return_ to my closet, I received a free pair of tickets to see Kansas at the Brady Theater in Tulsa, OK. This was right after (original vocalist) Steve Walsh had come back to do lead vocals again (replacing Elephante (sic)). Walsh's vocals were strong and clear (much better than 5 years before when they played OK City). But the real kicker was that during this tour, they had Steve Morse filling in for lead guitar. This guy was amazing! I wouldn't have expected Morse's style to fit in as well with classic Kansas tunes as it did. He also played a lot of teasers from old Dregs tunes during some of his solos. He could have played all night...and I'm sure we would have let him. BTW...the Brady Theater still has the best acoustics of any venue I've ever visited...with the Majestic Theater in Dallas coming in a close second. DTC: JP thinks that Steve Morse is a guitar legend. Earlier this year, they got together and played around in a home studio for a day or so. Dunno if anything from that session will ever make it out to the public, but I'd love to hear them jamming together! Notice the "chicken pickin' guitar style JP uses during New Millennium (during the part when MP does the _La Grange_ drumstick clicking thing). That part is a serious nod towards Morse. I tried resubbing, but haven't gotten anything yet (I'll try again soon). Anyway, since I haven't gotten any jams for a week or so, I've missed some stuff. If there have been more dates for the DT tour confirmed, could someone please e-mail them to me privately since I'm not currently on the jam (hopefully that will change soon). Thanks. When I first read the Ytsejams about a potential show at Jaxx, I called them up and they said to call back in 48 hours. That was yesterday, Thursday. I spoke to someone and asked for DT show confirmation and was told, "It's on Friday, December 26th, the day after Christmas. Tickets are $25." That's my "confirmation" -- it didn't come from a band member, but it did come directly from the venue. Also, I'm guessing that the Ballroom show in D.C. would make a Jaxx show the next day unnecessary. Anyone know more information about The Ballroom? (Ticket prices, location, age restriction, etc.?) After seeing Fates and Savatage there I can | atest to the fact that the sound is awesome there. the sound will be HUGEMONGOUS. after the TOOL show, i couldn't hear for 3 days...and i had earplugs! the bass was awesome...the kind that physically moves you back from the stage, that you can *feel* in your chest. i loved it, as a bassist; had an orgasm everytime Carrey hit a kick drum ;) but then again, this was TOOL and not DT. possibly the setup will be different. | Anyone know if the ballroom is general admission or does it have seats. Is | it a club or a pseudo-arena? Is it done by ticketbastard? i've only seen/heard general admission there. no seats...well, kinda. picture this: a large rectangular warehouse with the stage completely filling one end, sound board in the center w/ police barricades, more empty space, bleachers at the other end. it's all concrete; the acoustics suck the Big One (tm). don't wear your favourite shoes/boots cuz they'll get really fookin nasty...concrete floor w/ mostly unidentifiable substances covering it. talk about pain if yer crowd-surfing and get dropped. and the ample open space lends itself very nicely to moshing. yes, folx, i think there will be LOTS of moshing on this upcoming tour. i hope i'm wrong. hope that helps. wish i could be in town for this show. i'll see you freaks at the jaxx show tho. the TOOL show was awesome, btw ;) alter, john j j e n s @ s h e l l . w e b z o n e . n e t s h e l l . w e b z o n e . n e t / ~ j j e n s / ------------------------------ Date: 24 Oct 97 14:03:31 -0700 From: "Neil Evans" To: email_address_removed Subject: YtseGathering - Northern CA Message-ID: I hereby propose a YtseGathering after the Northern CA (Palo Alto) show. If there is interest, please email me. If nothing else I'd be willing to let everyone hang out at my place (a 1-BR apartment), which is about 10-15 minutes drive from Palo Alto (I live in Redwood City). I think it would be best if we could find a place to hang out where we could listen to DT, since that is what is bringing us all together (which is why I'm offering my place). I have the general DT collection - all official releases, all the Bahr bootlegs, a few other random things (Majesty, Instrumentals I and II, The Dance of Eternity, Kick Into a Dream, a couple Petrucci clinic vids, Japanese PPV vid, etc..) Bring rare stuff! Bring stuff to trade! Bring beer (if you are so inclined)! I'm sure I could gather some food for the occasion as well. Other notes of interest: I live with my g/f and we both work the following day (Thursday) so I may have to kick you out by about 9:00 AM, but anyone who has been drinking is more than welcome to crash on the foldout couch or the floor. Since the DT show probably won't be over until 12:30 or 1:00 AM, and since we will surely hang around and meet any band members who come out after the show, this event will be a late-night thing. Oh yeah, I also have a guitar and keyboard for the musicians among us to noodle around on (although not simultaneously since I'm running them through the same amp). Anyone? Bueller? Send me email.. cheers, -Neil. PS - I'm not a psycho; I do, however, think I'd be willing to give up a weeknight of sleep to hang out with some people with similar musical tastes and talk DT. Especially in that Euphoric-post-DT-concert-haze mood that we'll all be in. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Oct 1997 18:45:09 +0100 From: email_address_removed (John Emmons) To: email_address_removed Subject: Scene Magazine Message-ID: Monday night should be another exciting night in the Flats at the Odeon when DT plays there. I know there are millions of classical (and Baroque and Renaissance . . . for all you picky people. I took my music theory class and know there's a difference :-) songs out there. Maybe even some classical guitar, or latin instrumental music. Understand what I'm talkin' about here? Something good that has some "technical" aspects to it. Anyone? I will be going to the Toronto show next wednesday. I'll also be going to the show in NYC on the 22nd.
