I think that it helped that I also live in Texas though. :) Anyway, I can't give a full review yet, since I've only listened to The Dance of Eternity so far, but what I've heard sounds really good! The mp3 files sound almost CD quality, and I only heard one or two skips during those 2 hours of play. One reason that I can claim that it compares to CD is that I got the songs to play through my stereo system. I know some people have made some comments on this, but I thought I'd tell everyone how I (with the help of my wife and her stash of stereo cables) hooked my computer to my stereo. Basically, I used a piggyback cable connection to the CD/AUX RCA jacks on the back of my stereo receiver to hook up some RCA cables (the ones with the two separate connectors color coded red and white, or red and black). I used some extensions to extend the RCA cables for about 20 ft over to my computer (it's a laptop, but I usually keep it across the room). Then, the two RCA connectors go into an RCA-1/8 in. adapter. The 1/8 in. side of this jack can then plug directly into either my line out jack or my headphones jack on the computer. It seems that the headphones jack produces sound a little less muddy than the line out jack, but I think they're supposed to work equally well for this connection. Just for reference, I even tried running a 1/8 in. male-male cord from the computer headphones jack to my tape deck MIC port (with a stereo plug adapter) and it worked as long as I had a tape playing or recording in the tape deck. It seemed to produce about the same quality sound as the hookup to the CD/AUX jacks, but of course unless you're recording the mp3 material, it's less hassle to hook up to the CD/AUX jacks. I'll give a more complete review after I've listened to all 12 hours of Spinning Years. Again, it sounds great so far! P.S. To the guy who saw a video clip of YNM in Wal-Mart... that sounds pretty cool. However, I didn't know they had made any videos except for Hollow Years. Maybe the YNM video will be released soon, getting a push for airplay in the US? Message-ID: Hi, Well I kinda missed you crazy kids, it's good to see some Jams in my In-Box again. Well I've had FII for a few days so I thought I'd air my views... I have to say that I love the production (no wait, hear me out!). I like the fact that they have taken every song and dealt with it separately, even chunks of songs have been thought about in their own right and I think this has worked really well. Take PS, the slow beginning has a very mid-70's, damp sounding drum kit - which works well - and shows a great contrast to the heavy bits which revert to that big-crack-snare. And then you have the laid back sound for HY (which should be a huge hit - unless EastWest fuck up - is JM using a fretless on this?), and then the fat drum sound (like Roger Taylor from Queen) on Anna Lee. It all works great - much better than a lot of productions - I mean, between the Black album and Load, Metallica must have locked the studio door and not touched the set-up. They sound the same - no progression at all! I love every song on this CD - high points include the whole of TAMP, the heavy bit of PS - especially the riff after the stabs (where the base continues to play) - when MP does the off-beat on the China Boy I feel quite strange. The aggressive lyrics are great ("Keep your head up!") YNM fits well and is a monster and just when you think you've heard the best CD ever - TOT starts and you have to visit the bathroom. Sure there are bits that sound like other bands but I'm sure that all the musicians on this list do that (in fact I quite often target sections of songs and attempt to conjure up similar moods and feelings in my own work). Anyway - I digress Dave (a UK Jammer). Except for John Myung appearing on it (it will depend on details like timing, especially, since DT is on tour), all the others should be on it... This "project" is actually Sean Malone's second solo album, which should be out next year. If you heard Sean's first solo CD (if you haven't, shame on you), you already know that Sean is all about great songwriting, and he's not doing this to showcase himself... he's only got like 3 solos in the whole CD! It's more of a collective effort than a lot of bands out there... and yes, the first Malone CD is called Cortland and it also features Sean Reinert (drums, ex-Cynic, ex-Death) and Trey Gunn.
