On my old SB card, I had to switch a jumper on the card to bypass the internal amplifier, in order to hook it up to my stereo amplifier. If you don't bypass the internal amp, you get distortion in the signal. However, that was years ago, and I'm not sure if the newer cards are the same. You might be able to disable it via a software setting. THEY AREN'T EVEN PLAYING >YTSEJAM!!!! Okay, before you get your panties in a bunch (oops, too late), a few facts: The setlist you saw (I'm assuming for the Lupo's show) WAS a limited setlist. It was NOT ad DT show, it was DT playing at the WHJY Birthday Bash. The band was only given a 1 hour slot (they actually played about 1:15), so they had to cut some material. So there WAS a good reason for it. Please withhold any further judgements on what is/is not played until after they've played a REAL date or two. _____Pat Sullivan_____________________________________________ E-mail: remove "X"'s to reply IRC: DDictator WWW: http://www.ici.net/cust_pages/psull/psull.html NP: Dream Theater - "Falling Into Infinity" ______________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Oct 1997 12:40:04 -0400 From: email_address_removed (Pat Sullivan) To: email_address_removed Subject: back issues? BTW, I'd like to reply to some flaming comments on my last post: Truth is, English is not my native language, so I can easily be misunderstood. Bear with me, ok? I did not mean to compare Derek to Kevin. I happened to comment on one of his solos in ACoS, which I found "uninspired". That's MY opinion, true or not. I repeat: he's an excellent keyboard player. But his style is different to Kevin's so no comparison is possible. What I DID compare was DT before FII and DT after that. I said that I used to find their new style difficult to get used to. Note that past tense. I've gotten used to it and it's growing on me now. Since Dream Theater only played for about 75 minutes, I will include the set list without any spoiler warnings because they will obviously be playing longer on the Falling Into Infinity World Tour. (Doesn't that sound great?) Anyways, here is the set list: 1. New Millennium 2. Under a Glass Moon 3. Burning My Soul 4. Voices 5. Hollow Years 6. Just Let Me Breathe 7. Lie 8. Peruvian Skies 9. Pull Me Under 10. Metropolis I The order may be a little different, but I believe this is correct. Last night's show was the first Dream Theater concert I had ever been to. It was nice to see a band play in a more personal environment. I am used to attending concert venues where the attendance is 5,000+, so it was a nice change for me to see a band play in a club - especially Dream Theater. And, I have to thank Jeremy Hallum carting my butt down there along with Wacky and Binky. By the time Mighty Joe Plum and Our Lady of Peace finished their sets, I had made my way (somewhat unvoluntarily because of the people pushing me forward) to the second row of people squished against the barricade between the audience and the band. As usual, (I've seen my fair share of DT bootleg videos), the band was interacting a lot with the audience, from John Petrucci making his scrunched face at various fans to James pulling a woman from the audience (who tried grinding with him) during the encore of Metropolis I. Performance-wise, the band was excellent. Since this was the first show DT has performed since the few concerts they did in Brazil in mid-September, James had enough rest to belt out all sorts of high notes with a redeeming quality. John Myung and Mike Portnoy were a very tight rhythm section and Derek and John P. did a great job as well, especially during my and Jon P"ah"met's favorite 5/4 synchronized solo at 3:21 in JLMB. This time, instead of alternating passages, DS and JP both played the entire solo - IMHO, it sounds much better this way. Personal highlights of the evening: - New Millennium - Just Let Me Breathe synchronized solo - Catching a 94.1 WHJY t-shirt and having JP and DS sign it - Catching one of MP's drumsticks and duking it out with Mike Estok and some other guy for it. In the end, the other guy and I broke it in half and each took one. - During Metropolis I, the guard in front of us had put his head down. When the guy in front of me saw this, he climbed over, ran onto the stage, gave JP a pat on the back and gave DS and JM a thumbs-up. Then, another guard chased after the guy who then jumped back into the crowd and pretty much landed on me. I was so pissed off - had I thought of it earlier, I would have tried to move out of the way and thrown him to the cement floor. Instead, my first reaction was, "Oh shit! I better put my arms up to block the impact." I need to do something about that type of reaction... - After the show, I found out from JP that the project JP, MP, Jordan Rudess, and Tony Levin worked on during the past month is called the "Liquid Tension Experiment". It will be released some time in 1998 under the Magna Carta label. Also, he revealed the real reason why he cut his hair: His kids kept pulling at it. Well, I think that pretty much sums up the evening. I had a great time at the show with Jeremy, Binky, Wacky, Isaac, Mike E., Skadz, Mike B., Jon P"ah"met, and whoever else was there from Boston. (I think I mentioned most of the people that I know from here.) I can't wait until the next show in New Haven! Take care and (as the John-Popper look-alike of Mighty Joe Plum kept saying last night) "Rock on", Bogie P.S.
