In english, it's gooing back and forth between two different volumes. Usualy one is the original volume of the sound and the second is lower. Vibrato can be applied to and sound by either phisical means, like when singing or using a Leslie cabnet, of electronicaly, like a guitar of studio effect. Good examples of what vibrato sounds like on guitar can be heard in Voices off Awake and in Black Loung form Anthrax's The Sound of White Noice album. I just wanted to say that most labels (especially the majors) don't accept unsolicited material, meaning material that they haven't asked for, meaning random people sending stuff in. A&R people mostly rely on recommendations from people they trust in the industry (managers, lawyers, coworkers, etc); people who have a proven track record with them. And even in these cases, they are still flooded with tapes. So it stands to reason that they just physcially don't have time to listen to something without anyone's recommendation. If you send it in just off-the-cuff, chances are you will get it returned to you, unopened. Whether this is right or wrong is another issue. These places are large and reliable and I have used both in the past. I generally find CD Universe to be cheaper for small orders. One copy of FII from CD Universe costs $US12.95, with $US5.99 shipping (standard air mail, 5 -10 days) for the first item. Shipping for additional CDs is $US1.50. This equates to a total of around 11.72 english pounds to order a single CD air mail, or 20.66 pounds for two. You can of course pay extra for quicker shipping. I find the air mail option takes around 6-8 days (quoted at 5-10 days by them) to reach me in Melbourne, Australia - I imagine shipping to the UK would almost certainly be quicker than this. For aussies reading this, the australian shipping cost is $US7.49 with each additional item costing $US1.75. Hope that helps! Australian CD prices are very high, so these kinds of prices are attractive, but the shipping cost tends to cancel out any saving unless you buy more than one. So, in Australia, internet buying is best for bulk orders or hard-to-get CDs. FII apparently wasn't getting a local release in Australia, so I ordered two copies from CD Universe weeks before sept 23 and they were shipped on sept 22nd, to arrive on the 30th here. You can do this with any new release - order it before the US release date, and it will be shipped the *day before* this date. When I was thinking about buying from overseas vs. buying locally, it got me thinking. If an album DOES get a local release, could people who buy mail/net order from the US be jeopardising the chance of a local tour by that album's performer? I imagine that band managers decide to have the band tour a particular region/country only if local album or single sales are strong. Any comments on this by people who know the music industry (i.e. not me!)?
