Typo #3: Burning My Soul (line 9) - should probably be "hair's gray", unless they're talking about gray as a verb (the hairs are in the process of graying) In regards to Hollow Years: I would say it (the first part) is about a deadbeat father (or at least one who left the relationship). The second may be about the woman he left, and her reluctance to move on (starts relationship, but "turn(s) around and walk(s) away". Do you hear: - a Soundgarden chord (from Black Hole Sun, I think)? I will comment further when I can find the song. DT continues to impress me with each release and FII is indeed a masterpiece (_killer bad_). the local radio station has BMS in regular rotation now (guess they got tired of me calling their request line ;-) and more people are starting to listen to DT then ever before. perhaps a change in the music industry might just be forthcoming and FII might just pave the way. to anyone that's close to the band, please pass on my thanx for a most awesome cd. it's definitely the best cd that i've purchased since their last release. Hollow would imply empty, unproductive, and perhaps that there was no feeling involved. I, myself, would not see this as being as extreme as suicide, but more of a "pay attention to you relationships" type message. I think it compared the two figures- the man, who "takes the easy way out" who "you hear about often" and who isn't able to face up to his problem and correct it, so he runs away, and the girl (his wife?) who is the opposite (someone you don't hear about often) who is very verbal with her feelings and if needs be she is able to walk away...and I think that altimately, no matter what the characters "represent" the song is saying that someday you'll have to face what you don't want to face or what you're scared to face, and then that "rock you were hiding under" will be exposed, and there will be no where to run away to. So that you'll see all the time you lived and wasted in those Hollow years of hiding. Well, my $.02 anyway...I do love the album! I just got it yesterday and already I am totally and completely hooked on every song! I can't wait to hear them live now! Maria >My guess would be either Suicide as you mention, or just someone leaving >the relationship (and family). Anyway, the focus seems to be on the >"survivor" of either case, and how he/she has kept their head under a >rock, "Once the stone you're crawling under is lifted off your shoulders", >and not realized what is going on. The consequence is loneliness, >"crashing down of Hollow Years". The message seems to be pay attention >in your relationship. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Sep 97 11:25:17 -0800 From: email_address_removed To: Subject: I am sad... I just finished a lyric file for Falling into Infinity if anyone is interested. It works with Lauren's CD Player. For those of you interested in a new version, I just had to take a couple months away from the player for a break. The newer version 0.99 has CDDB "fuzzy" search and all sub-windows (lyrics, booklet, internet CDDB, and options) are integrated back into one window. This will be available for download hopefully within a week or two. It depends on how long it takes to fix one small bug and get my new ISP to give me Web space. As for the lyric file, you can e-mail me to get it and I'll e-mail back tonight at around 12:30am EDT (U.S.) when I get home from work. Message-ID: found some sick humor I'd like to share with you.. (especially for those who were mistaken for Elton John fans while buying FII). ELTON JOHN WOWS MOTHER TERESA FUNERAL CROWD WITH 'THE BITCH IS BACK' CALCUTTA--Over 12,000 mourners at Saturday's funeral for Mother Teresa were treated to a performance of "The Bitch Is Back" by Elton John. The delighted mourners, clapping their hands and swaying from side-to-side in time with the song's pounding, rollicking barrelhouse piano, joined John in singing the song's refrain, "Bitch, bitch / The bitch is back," dozens of times, bringing the performance to over 12 minutes. "This is the perfect tribute to Mother Teresa," said Sister Nirmala, Mother Teresa's successor as leader of the Missionaries of Charity Order. "The bitch is indeed back with God." John, who sat next to Princess Diana at Gianni Versace's funeral and sat next to Mother Teresa at Princess Diana's funeral, was seated next to former Beatle George Harrison at Mother Teresa's funeral, fueling speculation that Harrison will perish next Tuesday in a fiery helicopter crash. source: http://www.theonion.com and whoever mentioned my .sig - thanks for sharing my taste :) read you - jerry :--) --------------------------------------------------------------- Andreas Schaefer jerry@muc.de ...bei 200 Grad 15 Minuten backen, und keine Eier! - Tool --------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Sep 97 9:53:12 EDT From: "Chung Ng" To: Subject: HELP - Savatage at Birch Hill Message-ID: No DTC. This part is La Villa Strangiato right on, and Portnoy even duplicates the percussion from it. I couldn't believe it. Secondly, I think the production on this album does more harm than good. In a lot of places, the drums are so light that I'd swear we were listening to Genesis, not DT. I also can't stand how meshed the guitar and keyboard are, meaning there are only a few places where the two are seperately distinguishable. I do really dig some of Derek's parts, but for the majority, I don't like the sounds he uses. Someone mentioned that this album has no Pink Floyd in it. I can hear blatant Pink Floyd (influence, not rip off) in several places, such as the bridge in Peruvian Skies. The beginning of Anna Lee sounds exactly like an Elton John song, but I can't remember the title. Regarding Desmond Child on YNM, I assume he wrote/co-wrote the pre-chorus and the chorus. I love these parts of the song, but I can't stand the verses, due to the way James sings. Same with New Millenium. I just don't get the vocals on some of the tracks. I absolutely love Peruvian Skies. However, does anyone else think that Portnoy is getting unbelievably predictable, like in the ending to this song? I love the way this song gets loud and heavy in the middle, but the double bass is unnecessary at best. I hate the packaging. It pisses me off that they didn't use the real logo, and used that stupid alternative record selling logo. For the most part though, I love the album. So there, Pat! You said you never saw anyone buy DT - imagine what > the chick at the register was thinking when two people in a row bought it! > The same thing happened with me. My friend and I went at around noontime to the Wiz here in Jersey to pick up the CD. We couldn't find it anywhere, except for the tape (which I picked up). I went up to the front and asked if they had it. The guy at the counter said that his colleague was getting them from their bin. I went over there, picked up two copies, and went up to pay for it. Mind you, in the meantime, Elton John is playing over the sound system. The guy took a look at it, saw that we had 3 copiees of it, and yelled to the back of the store, "Hey, bring a copy of that up here." He then proceeded to open it up, saying "Screw it, I'll just buy it." Then he proceeded to tell one of the other co- workers to call up Elektra to get a copy to play over the sound system. Now trust me, this guy was NOT a Dream Theater fan. He looked at the CD with a *REAL* puzzled look (he might have thought it was some Pink Floyd-ish band). But I guess the fact that he sold about 5 copies in 2 minutes seemed to impress him...... -Al -- ^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@ I inhale the sun...........I exhale the absence of light I am the number One..........burning. ^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^ email: email_address_removed email_address_removed HOMEPAGE:http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/9280/index.html ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 3007 **************************
