Not to mention that the music is great. But not all alum covers fit so well. The most extreme example that comes to mind is the new Galactic Cowboys album "The Horse That Bud Bought." Any of you who have it know what I'm talking about. Flowers and pastels do not come to my mind when I think of heavy metal! -~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_- | Robert Taylor The world may seem flown away | | email_address_removed Almost as if it cannot be saved | | The Phoenix Will we be able to rise | | From these ashes we've sown | -~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 13:35:17 -0500 (CDT) From: The Phoenix To: email_address_removed Subject: Leviathan, Altura, and Metal Edge Message-ID: I am thinking of ordering some CDs and I want to know about ALtura. I couldn't find any stuff about them on the web. Are the Prog rock, prog hard rock, or prog metal, or prog at all? How's the singer? I checked out Leviathan and I just want to know how's the vocals? I e-mailed Metal Edge as per suggestion and asked if they'd be covering FII. Here's what they said: "yes. See the Dec issue out 9/23" ALL RIGHT!!! -~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_- | Robert Taylor The world may seem flown away | | email_address_removed Almost as if it cannot be saved | | The Phoenix Will we be able to rise | | From these ashes we've sown | -~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_-~-_- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 14:52:29 -0400 (EDT) From: Eric John Marlett To: email_address_removed Subject: Followup to ECKIE'S RANT Message-ID: This is an excerpt from an article by Chris Renaldo entitled "Contemporary Insanity". I just came across it as I was eating lunch. "I believe it was Mao Tse-Tung who said, 'If you tell a lie enough times, it becomes the truth.' How did a country, founded on the premise of independence and personal liberty, become such a denial-ridden nation of mindless rodents in search of the next trend-setting Pied Piper? To paraphrase the late Robert F. Kennedy, some men see things that are and ask, why. Others see things that never were and say, 'Well, that doesn't matter; we can just ignore reality and pretend things are the way we want them to be.' In our neverending quest to be 'hip', we have created a pathetic, child-like world that favors form over substance, fiction over fact." He wasn't even talking about the music world. He was ranting against pop culture in general, and for those that feel inspired to take action against this cultural decay, I just thought this might make the point that this is not a problem found only in musicdom. That which is great and that which sells are usually mutually exclusive things, not always, but most of the time. Eckie's right that money is the god of our culture, and until that changes, our cause is futile. However, this isn't a fight only for DT fans, or prog fans, or music fans for that matter. This is a fight for something that transcends all titles and labels and distinctions. It is a fight for everyone who still has the ability to care. Message-ID: There was some talk a while back about how DT recorded their songs, and what I remember was that on the previous albums each member recorded their parts for the entire album and then the next and so on. I also recall that for FII they might change that style and record all the parts for each song before moving on to the next...Does anyone know if this is what they did? I'd be really curious to find out...... I couldn't find any stuff about them on the web. Are the Prog >rock, prog hard rock, or prog metal, or prog at all? How's the singer? I have their CD "Mercy" (their only one, AFAIK)....definitely prog metal, not quite as heavy as DT, but close. Some nice melodies, some parts that sound totally un-melodic, almost chaotic, for lack of a better word (not that that's necessarily a bad thing...). Sounds almost like there's a hint of industrial music influences here and there. The vocalist (I think his name is Rain Irving) isn't bad, but he tends to overdo it a bit at times. Overall, not my favorite disc, but it finds its way into my stereo on a semi-regular basis. You must have mentioned that URL in your last post to the Ytsejam :-) > Itchy...i'm confused.... So, what else is new ;-) Every month, I put together the Most Frequent Poster and Domain lists for Freaks, Ytsejam and Voices. The lists contain the amount of posts that were sent from every email address. Recently, I started keeping track of the amount of lines everyone posted each month. If you know the *total* amount of lines that were posted, you can calculate the % of bandwidth everyone used up. You can find that on the lists too :-) So, if you wanna find out how much *you* (or anyone else) contributed to the Ytsejam the month before, check out the MFP lists on my site ! To make the MFP lists more *fun*, I decided to link people's names to the last URL they mentioned... If the URL of your homepage is in your sig, your name will always be linked to your own homepage... There is also a way to make sure a certain URL will get linked on the lists : URL: http://www.a-vip.com/H That's how you do it :-) Once a month is enough. All other URLs will be ignored. You can also change your name on the MFP list by using : NAME: Itchy's 'The H Website' :-) It's fun checking out what URLs got linked to the MFP lists :-> Enjoy _____ Subject: Virus Warning !!! I've been thinking about DT touring and I just can't believe that their management will let them come to the UK. The whole idea of a tour is to promote a bands most recent offering (or to keep their fans sweet while they wait for a new offering). Can you imagine JLB saying "This one's from our new album...which you can't actually buy in the shops...", no, me neither. Can someone please ask the band/management what is going on, I feel so let down, not by the band, they don't make these decisions, but buy their management, label and promoters. How many DT fans in the UK will never know about the existence of this CD, not all of them have internet access, and not all of them are that die hard that they would phone record companies.
