Message-ID: Hey all, this is only my second time posting, but I've been reading the jam for quite some time now. I just wanna say to those who still need a prog-fix before FII hits the shelves, go get Lemur Voice's cd "Insights", if you haven't already. It kix ass! The CD sounds a lot like a combination b/t I&W and Awake. Lots of jaw-dropping instrumental, odd-meter, heavy sh*t on this album, esp. the songs Intuition, Akasha Chronicles, More of Nothing, and Prime of Passion. Well, nuff said about that before I start naming half the damn songs on the album! Anyway, it took me a while to find the CD but it was definitely worth it IMO. Also, I'm just curious, do any of you jammers live in SC (or the southeast for that matter)? I'm at USC right now trying to get a band together. Email me if interested. -Drew "Let Nothing Bleed into Nothing and Did Nothing at All" -APSoG ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Sep 1997 22:18:45 -0500 (CDT) From: Jay Omega To: Just Words Subject: Pointless followup Message-ID: Heard the commercial again. I noticed GC similarities at the end of You Not Me. At times the song sounds a LOT like Psychotic Companion, especially the guy talking at the end. "I'm going to Hawaii, I'm going to Hawaii." The guitar/keyboards is very reminiscent too, at least to me anyway. Show time is 9:00. IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THESE GUYS AND CAN GET TO THIS SHOW DO IT - THEY ARE EXCELLENT. Also, although I am not familiar with Marillion, I hear they are also very good. He also said their new album is shipping later this month!!!!!! They are presently in Holland for a Music Fair and some interviews. He said he has heard the new DT album, and said "It sounds great! More song oriented with the prog edge still totally there..." This makes the wait for the new album even more unbearable. -- Michael Pomerleau E-mail: (Home) email_address_removed OR email_address_removed (Work) email_address_removed Visit My Home Page at http://w3.nai.net/~mpomerle Who knows where the Cold Wind Blows... My point was just that the reason they're popular is not their music, which is standard pop fare. It's because of the gimmick - their ages. Lang is the same. I've heard countless blues players that are WAY better but don't have half the exposure, including some personal friends of mine. He's big for two reasons: his age, and the fact that his dad is buddy-buddy with a record company bigwig. As for only liking prog, I actually don't like most prog. I find DT to be a wonderful band (my second favorite) with lots of emotion, but to me that's an exception in the prog world (of course, some people don't even consider DT prog, but that's another story). I think most "prog" bands are boring. My favorite musicians are Zeppelin, DT, Pearl Jam, U2, Al Stewart (a great acoustic player), Megadeth, Sabbath, Allman Brothers, BB King, Little Walter, etc.... -Brian ******************************************************************************** Official Countdown to release of Dream Theater's "Falling Into Infinity": 19 Days and counting! ******************************************************************************** "The sweet taste of vindication turns to ashes in your mouth." - Dave Mustaine ******************************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 00:03:48 -0400 (EDT) From: "Richard A. Also, here's an idea. As you may or nay not know, I'm an avid reader of Metal Edge magazine, which I consider to be the premier hard rock magazine in the country. They are the only one of the magazines from the 80s (RIP, Circus, Hit Parader, etc) that continue to give constant and favorable coverage to my favorite bands (meaning they didn't sell out when grunge and alternative hit). What's my point? Well, as luck would have it, they have an e-mail address. I propose that we, the Ytsejam Collective, e-mail Metal Edge and demand coverage for DT to coincide with the new album. It is my understanding that in the new issue there will be some sort of feature story on the boys, but let's make sure that editor knows how large the DT fan base is. In the past, they have always been favorable to DT, so it seems like a pretty safe bet that it won't take much arm-twisting to convince them do a lot of stories on them: they just need to know that the people want to read it. Here's the info: email_address_removed Editor: Gerri Miller (female) Suggestions: Be polite. Don't say "Why don't you fuckwads print more DT?!!!" Be professional. Inform her of the new album and remind her that Metal Edge has always been cool to DT in the past and you would very much like that trend to continue. You could even mention the Ytsejam. You get the idea. Bottom line: be cool, but not pushy. Also, all of you aol-ers out there, Metal Edge has their own folder. Just do keyword: MMC, then go to hard rock/heavy metal, and it will be mixed in with all the band names. Well, that's about it. Let's get this show on the road!!! Message-ID: Hello everyone, Just coming out of lurker mode to tell you all that I just received a demo copy of four new songs for the forthcoming Crimson Glory album and they truly kick ass. Wade Black, the new lead singer, is a cross between Rob Halford (his nickname, according to guitarist Jon Drenning, is Judas) and Udo Derkschneider (sp?) of Accept. He has much better range than Midnight. Jon and Jeff Lords are writing all of the stuff and it is still undecided who will be in the band besides those two and Wade. The four songs I have heard are typical Crimson Glory songs that fans of their first two albums will certainly love. Jon also told me that there will be an official Crimson Glory website on the Internet real soon. I hope to be doing stuff for the site. The site will have soundclips from the new album and all of the rest of the news about the forthcoming release. As soon as the site is up, I will post the URL.
