Message-ID: ..I get another one. Well, I listened to the 3 tracks on www.hardradio.com. Very cool! I prefer YNM to BMS as the better single, but that's just me. :) On the drumming thread (that re-surfaced... ugh!): if you want to learn a little more about "behind the beat drumming" (and you don't mind looking at his 80s mane), you may want to check out Gregg Bissonette's video (circa 1989). He goes into that subject a little. And he's relatively good at teaching it. Either that or I was madly in love with him in the early 90s when I started drumming semi-seriously.... Oh, I actually had a reason for posting. I've updated my Web page to help DT get airplay in the US and Canada. The other day Steve Chew sent me, like, 500 radio stations, but only 46 of them had Web sites/e-mail addresses. So my page has been HEAVILY updated. I'm still taking suggestions, and if anyone can help fill in the gaps, I'd appreciate it. (jeez, I almost said "I'd be much obliged." Ugh! I've been living in Texas too long!) I just caught a listen of TAMP for the first time and my first impression was, "They have to get this song on the radio, they HAVE to. People will listen to this song!!" I dunno who has or hasn't heard this song, but I'd be interested in others' opinions on this - so e-mail me and let's discuss. Oh yeah, YNM disappointed me when I first heard it, but after a few listens of the MP3 (Thanx Dr. Mosh) it just gets better! I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to getting this album. Album covers give a visual personality to the music. When you hear the album, you 'see' the colors of the cover in your head. Ever notice how when you alisten to a dubbed tape, it's missing a certain trait. I've always been intruiged by how Audio and Visual are so combined. Artwork can definitely have a major effect on the impact of he music. Perfect example: in the TFE booklet, the artwork on the page for 'Resist'. It makes the song so much more powerful. As for Satch....I'd go for 'The Extremist'. It has the best songwriting , and the guitar playin is awesome. Flying with a Blue Dream is his most 'show-off'y album... and Surfing With The Alien..well most ppl will tell you to get this one first. I can't disagree, but i won't agree either:) The songs are great, but the production is a little sterile. Joe said himself that for that album they concentrated specifically on the guitar sounds...and it shows; the rhythm tracks sound pretty lifeless. Extremist has a very natural (and rockin') feel to it. I really can't wait for Satch's next album. He's finally doing what he shou;d've done a long time ago...record with his touring band. This CD is gonna rock, i just know it:) surfing with little green men, Ernie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Sep 1997 22:43:46 -0400 (EDT) From: Steve Zebrowski To: email_address_removed Subject: Grrrrrrrr... Why do they call them donut holes, though, if they really aren't holes? Holes are just empty space and these are solid substance. Hrm. I want L.M. It's Take Away My Pain for the acronymically challenged. :) BTW, I got the chance to hear Spock's Beard finally. Pretty good stuff. The singer's probably the best part of the band. he's the most versatile person I've heard in a long time. His voice changes personality with the song, sounding like Sting, or Trent Reznor, or Clint Black, or Weird Al. heh. It's rather kewl. I sense quite a bit of Floydian influence in their stuff, but then I hear aot of 90s influence. /me likes. 'nuff said. It's one of the reasons I like to have albums on CD; apart from the obvious improvment in sound quality it's good to have the full artwork, lyrics, etc, etc. Another example I've just thought of is Paradise Lost's "Icon" and "Draconian Times". The artwork for these albums is excellent, and again it seems to go perfectly with the music. This might be true to a certain extent, but in a few cases I've had copies of albums for some time without seeing the cover, and my perceptions of those albums haven't changed much when I finally got round to buying the CD. > I know I do...DT's Awake certainly does sound like a darker album. > Change of Seasons sounds "sky blue." Agreed, again. > Does anyone else recognize (or suffer from) this effect? Not in all cases, but I recognise what you're describing. The cover of Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" looks metallic and mechanical, as is the music. Carcass's "Heartwork" is a very clear, crisp picture (reflecting the crispness of the music on that album), but at the same time the picture has a very limited range of colours which goes with the limited range of emotions in the music. I could go on... > Does anyone agree with *any* of this? (Or am I insane? I can't be > insane--I'm a DT fan!) I agree, but I think that in most cases the album artwork is chosen to reflect the style or mood of the music. I can't think that I have a particular favourite album cover, but then I don't have a favourite album. :-) Cheers, -- +--Andrew Berry (webmaster, Metal Links) ----------------------------------+ | 4700 links to metal pages - http://www.aberry.demon.co.uk/metallinks/ | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | "Present is the time including all times, | | Each second is eternity as eternity is now, and now is forever." | +----------------------------------------------------- Samael -------------+ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Sep 1997 07:41:11 EST From: "Joshua P.
