This shit continues to piss me off. Not because he's selling it... he has every right to make a buck off this thing. More because there's gonna be a moron on this list who will probably pay $100-150 for the cd. Why not buy a cd burner and make your own copy of it? Buy a couple more copies of this disc, and you've spent the same amount of cash. There are jammers out there who can make copies for you on DAT or on CDR. This cd isn't even that amazing. Someone's gonna say "I want the original". Sure... that's fine... but it's a Mike Bahr original, not a Dream Theater original. It's a scam, yall. Great price at $35. Once it gets past $50, whoever buys it is an idiot. What happened to selling a cd, first come, first serve? This auction shit is just greed. Disagree if you want, but don't pray I'll care. > From: durnik > Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 2893 > > And just as a side note to Mike Bahr, he says (on his homepage) > > that "Guitar Talkin'" has ripped him off getting the acoustic songs from > > "Acoustic Dreams". > Actually, the original tape I had included the chat, but I was > working under a 60-minute constraint for AD at the time. What in the living fuck is this? I want Mike Bahr to answer this. Of course all jammers can answer as well, but I'm really only interested in Mike Bahr's answer (though yes, this is pertinent to the jam) Did you or did you not encourage people, only a week or so ago, to go ahead and copy your boots, and sell them themselves for their own profit? How are you being ripped? Or are you just inserting the term "ripped" as in ripped music from a cd (I hope you don't try to explain it as such). I am very interested in your response. > I still wish to this day that DT would have let me release the > Uncovered show first. So you could make a buck first? Why does it matter? If we're gonna have to pay just about the same price no matter where we buy it from, why does it matter if it comes from you, or from Slick Jimmy's cd garage? > Anyway it's my humble opinion that no bootleg should be released > with material on it that exists on any other bootleg, if at all possible. Refer again to my initial question. If you don't have any right to the material in question, then your opinion just smells like greed to me, man. It would be great to be able to get cds that don't have any recurrence of songs we've already heard. But that's not the way bootlegs work, when they're on the "For Sale" market, like yours, and the others in question. So somebody buys one of your boots and another that has a couple of the same songs on it. They get over it. Most of these people are the ones like the completely warped Rick Audet who truly must be insane, because he buys EVERY Dream Theater item known to man. People who collect don't care when they get a boot that has some stuff they already have. People who can't afford to get the same songs on different releases should check out the material before they buy it. Most record shops that sell bootlegs will allow you to listen before you buy, since there's rarely any way to return a bootleg. The fact is, Mike, that you, when faced with this possibility, encouraged people to go ahead and recopy your bootlegs. It doesn't matter if they retitle it, or add stuff and subtract stuff. They have the same right to do that shit as you do (which technically is "no right"). Most of your bootlegs started out as live show bootlegs for source. If you don't like people mixing and matching rarities, then you shouldn't do it either. As I say, anyone can respond. The rabid Bahr supporters should probably just start sucking my ass now, because I can care less what they have to say. Intelligent responses will be acknowledged and responded to in an intelligent manner. Mike Bahr's response is the one I mainly want to see. > From: Joe Kruger > Subject: Items of iterest for sale > Sorry I couldn't post this to the YTSJAM-FOR-SALE list... While I'm on my rant, I'd like to offer you a chance to blow me too. > $75 - High Demand Double CDs > > Lost in the Sky (collector's case) > The Dance of Eternity If anyone is trying really hard to find these two cds and can't, let me know. I may be able to help you get them, or CDRs of them for a reasonable price. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my tone here. That jam pissed me off. When I say shit like this, it's all just my opinions. I'm not telling anyone what to do or how to do it. People who want to give me a lesson in manners or want to tell me I've got a great big ego, please don't waste your time. I've got as much right to say this stuff as they have to say their piece. This list is starting to become a giant advertisement, and I think that's bullshit. When I first got into progressive music I was under the impression that there were basically 3 progressive bands, DT, Rush, and Pink Floyd. But after I started surfing the net and suscribing to this digest I began hearing about many other progressive bands, Shadow Gallery, Marillion, to name a few. I went to a local CD store and the clerk who works there, who is very knowledgable about music and a friend of mine, had never even heard of most of them let alone had their albums in stock. How come I havent heard more about these bands? I would really like to hear some of their music. Can someone give me any suggestions as to what albums I would like? I guess I am going to have to go to Musicland (who I despise and hate buying things from) to see if they have anything from these bands or at least have thier albums available for order. I will give you the web pages that contain the transcription for you to download or print out. Please don't give out the web page address to anybody yet. It is not that it is some big secret, but there will be a lot of changes to the TAB over the next weeks. The current version is the initial version. I only want those who are willing to seriously check at least part of it to get it. Hopefully by Sept. 23 we will finally have a version that is up to 95-99% correct (we can "dream" can't we?). Also, I please ask that nobody puts this TAB on a web page yet. After we have checked it, have free reign. And keep it free. That was the whole purpose from day one. The fact is that Warner refused to publish the song (citing legal problems with the cover songs). So this is here to give this great song to the Jam, not to make a profit. The only cost that will ever be is if I get around to putting out a professional looking version, and then it will only be for reimbursement. In fact, I'll mention later about how anybody can get a better than ASCII version by picking up a certain program. I started last night seriously checking the TAB and I've already found a lot of "small" errors. There will be changes made over the next weeks. I didn't want this FW thread to die before i got my input on it. Well, here's my ranking for FW CDs (I will not include Cahsing TIme, and the only one I don't have is Night on Brocken): 1) APSoG - this CD just rules 1 1/2) Awaken the Guardian - I know a lot of you haven't even mentioned this one, but I consider it to be one of those CDs that you listen to it and go like "wow, this is a perfect CD". This CD has incredibly catchy melodies, incredible harmonies, great all around playing, etc. etc. etc. It has John Arch on vocals, and he's just great. Different from Ray, but just as good. This CD has a heavier sound than recent Fates, but it's definitely progressive. NOTE: Zonder is not the drummer, but the drums are still very good. 1 3/4) Perfect Symmetry - wow 2) Parallels 2 1/2) No Exit - a mix between Arch-era Fates and Ray-era Fates 3) Inside Out 4) The Spectre Within Well, that's all I have to say. Actually, there's "Nothing Left to Say". :) Alexis ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Aug 1997 22:38:30 +0200 From: Pedro Filipe To: email_address_removed Subject: ?:-| Message-ID: 1- How do we know where the accents are in a certain drum pattern?
